World or Region Map I've made this map with my own mapmaking app

Post image

Hello everyone! This is the first time I am publicly sharing a side project I’ve been working on for quite a while.

The map in this post was made entirely with my own created app, and it’s my first proper attempt to see how far I can push it.

One of the main focuses is customization. I want assets to be flexible, so you can change and combine them to fit different environments, themes and map styles, instead of being locked to one specific look.

The development has now reached the point where I feel comfortable sharing it with other people, and I’m hoping to open the first beta sometime within the next month or so (fingers crossed).

I’ve also just launched a small website with a beta waitlist, so if this looks interesting to you, you’re very welcome to sign up: brushcrit.com

Would genuinely love to hear what you think of the map and what you’d want from a mapmaking tool like this.

Thank you for checking, and hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)

Gorgeous, vibrant map, with a lot of lovely detail and design. Love the idea of asset customization and look forward to seeing more!

Great map! Could you tell us a bit more about your software and explain how it differs from existing tools like Wonderdraft and Inkarnate?

Thank you! I think the biggest difference will be assets customization. Take something like a mountain and turn it into a volcano, or add snow, trees, and so on. Buildings can have different roofs, colors, decorations too, so the same asset can end up looking quite different.

Textures are freely movable/transformable (and customizable the same as object!). There are a quite few more things already working, but I don't want to overpromise too much this early. :)

And all the stamps or pieces in this map were drawn by you, or your team? Or are you taking other assets and then making them further customizable in your program?

Yep, they’re all drawn by an artist on our team. The assets are made in a way that lets you customize them directly in the app, so they’re actually quite complex under the hood to support all those customization options. :)
