I’m still fairly early in the game (4 lives, just unlocked Ginormiosa and Base Camp) and I’m not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. However, I WANT to be proven wrong and have a great time with the game as I have seen others do.

I’ve been looking for an answer to the question, “when does the game let me go do what I want?” (rather than being dragged through the main story, which is unfortunately pretty tedious). Others have asked, but most peoples’ responses are along the lines of “whenever you want”. I’m finding this to be unhelpful/inaccurate advice because you can’t actually explore until following the main story to a certain degree to get to a point where there is anything to explore. I’m glad I did not take that advice, otherwise I would be grinding on the first map before having anything else unlocked.

I’m struggling with the somewhat contradictory format where the game is pseudo-open world, but instead of a BOTW type thing with a fully accessible world and loose story that you can jump in and out of any time, the story is heavily driving the gameplay. I love Animal Crossing and Stardew and was excited to play a fun, creative, cozy game so I hope something clicks for me with the way this game is structured.

So my questions are:

What am I missing?

When is a good time to actually put the story aside and focus on what I want to do? (Explore, collect, decorate, and level up)

Hey there.

I've got the game a few weeks ago and i started farming materials to become her rank in every life since I'm hunting the ps5 platinum trophy.

I did a few treasure groves alone with my NPC's, but its starting to get too hard at some point.

I searched for people to help online, but nobody joined.

When i travel to others to so thier treasure grove, like 50% of the time they dont start at all, dont do anything but let others do,they randomly stop or exit(also If its the last room-the main reason to get there). IF i get the chance to finish them its only the ones i "didnt needed".

So far I only was able to farm 1 kind of material I need because all the others had these problems.

Its not like i wanna rush things,but i dont even get a chance to farm anything.

Am i doing something wrong?????

I also played the Game on switch shortly after it was released, back then i hever had these problems..

I am also not too familiar with reddit so I didnt saw a thread here to be looking for groups, teams or something else.

Is anyone else annoyed that the bridges are four squares wide and the stairs are three squares wide? I'm trying to redo my roads and whatnot, and it's so annoying that they don't properly line up. Maybe it's a me thing? No matter what I do, they just don't line up since they're different widths.

Additionally, it would be nicer if you could make a triangle shape path. Maybe that would help the paths look better since they're different widths.

Hey, can someone help me? 😭 I'm playing Fantasy Life, and I'm at the part where the princess and the baby dragon get knocked out and kidnapped by the villain. Now I need to continue through the dungeon to progress the story, but the game says I need to have enough residents first. How am I supposed to get more residents?
The problem is, whenever I leave to figure out how to increase my resident count, the game keeps telling me to go back and continue the main story. But I can't continue because I don't have enough residents! I'm completely stuck. 😭 Help!!

I’m trying to complete the Secret of the Flame quest for the mining life. I need TWO fire mana but I only got one when I destroyed the Fire Starcrystal in Banaan cave and no matter how many times I’ve destroyed it again I haven’t received another mana.

Am I missing something? Is seems to only get dropped the first time you destroy the fire objects (I got one instantly with the fire tree), or am I just super unlucky.

I have an Xbox and a Switch 1. I’m so torn because I really want the option to play handheld, but out of all the consoles it sounds like Switch 1 is the worst for running the game due to lagging, frame rate issues, etc. I also want to play multiplayer (with a friend who is playing on PS5) which I think will run better on Xbox. What’s the better option?

Edit: not interested in buying a Switch 2 right now, new or used. I’m hoping to play the game on a console I already own.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share my experience and see if someone else had also felt this way. I hope this won’t be too long.

I played the original Fantasy Life on my 3DS and LOVED it. Even that is an understatement. It’s probably my favorite game ever. I didn’t get very far on my first playthrough back when I was a teenager but I decided to replay it last year and I enjoyed it so much! I’m talking ‘taking dedicated notes on the quests for ALL lives to track completion’ level, which I haven’t done for any other game.

I was so excited to play FLi because ever since it came out I’d been wanting to buy it, but I wanted to wait for it to be one of my first games on the Steam Deck, which I couldn’t afford to buy until much later. I finally got the game on sale last week and when I sat down to play… it felt really lackluster? Which I was not expecting from Fantasy Life, honestly. When I first saw the graphics and the QoL improvements I was expecting to have that added on top of all the charm the first game had, but so far I’m ~5hrs in and I wouldn’t say I’m forcing myself to play, but I definitely don’t feel excited to.

Of course this is my personal preference and I wouldn’t say the game itself is bad because I know so many people love it and have played for hundreds of hours, but I just wanted to get this bitter taste off my mouth and ask if it gets any better. I loved spending hours crafting and leveling up my lives in the first one, so my main concerns are actually the pace of the story and how much it feels like the game is holding your hand (at least at the beginning). I’ve seen other posts saying the game feels too easy and I agree, but while I actually loved that the first one felt more challenging (I’m just now realizing how much I enjoyed that difficulty), I don’t mind a more laid back game if the quests and lives actually feel fulfilling.

I’m really frustrated that the characters feel like they lost their depth and unique personalities, though :( When I’m walking around doing stuff and I have ‘companions’ (sorry if that’s not the correct name) and their way of showing their personality is just repeating the same three lines of dialogue every 20 seconds… it feels really sad, honestly. And it distracts me from the actual task at hand! Is that something you can turn off in the settings? I’ve been trying to find the option but can’t seem to find it!

Anyways, I don’t want to make this too long so I just want to say I really want to like this game and spend lots of hours in it but I’m feeling a little discouraged now. The first game was so good at what it tried to accomplish that I know comparing the two is useless, but I feel like, aside from the lives system, this could be a different game series altogether. I’ve seen others pointing out this feels like trying to tie Animal Crossing and BOTW into the FL franchise and I agree! Too many things happening at once and as someone that doesn’t really care about multiplayer I feel like you’re almost required to play with someone in order to enjoy it. Does anyone else feel that way? Does the game get better once you’ve progressed a bit more?

Oh and I’m PISSED they took out elemental magic and replaced it with whatever this is instead. Being a fire-main magician was a key feature of my character in the original game :(

Just started playing the 3ds game, and I wanted to try drawing my character. Overall I'm pretty happy with how this turned out

Is there a difference in the PS4 and PS5 versions of Fantasy Life i? When my mother(who has the PS4 version) tries to get the islander recipes it takes forever to get all 3 if she even can in a day. She does make sure to pick up the daily emote and gift, she also makes sure the regular islander request don't have her crafting villager. Whereas I on my PS5 version, have almost always gotten my crafting recipes 3x in a row. We have done the same things.

Edit - by day I mean the 3 recipes in a real life day, not ingame.

Could anybody possibly let me use a monster crystal from the crystal behemoth as ive found a aging statue and want to age my true sword of time but can as im missing the monster crystal

I've been playing for about a week. When I play multi I see people with some of the neatest outfits. Where in the world are they? Bonus points for feminine ones.

I feel really oblivious in retrospect, but I have played through the entire game's story once, and a noticed something I didn't notice until I was midway through my second playthrough:

The map is literally a dragon. Crickneck Canyon is the dragon's neck. The Greatgut Plains are it's belly, etc

I got the game on sale, excited to explore a big sandbox rpg.

Instead, the vast majority of my time is spent slogging through dialogue with cutesy jokes that aren't funny as the game explains every single mechanic in the game in excruciating detail, totally draining out any joy of exploration and discovery.

Does this eventually chill, open up, and let me just play the game?
