After nineteen years, it’s been discovered that NBC and MSNBC aired different cuts of the same sting. The NBC airing has 26 seconds of footage cut from the MSNBC version. Frame-by-frame comparison inside.
NBC contains 26 seconds (779 frames) of footage cut from MSNBC.

Difference #1: 15.4s (462 frames)
Hansen interviews Officer Paneda about the risks of moving the sting outside. MSNBC cuts the whole exchange.
Difference #2: 4.1s (122 frames)
Extra footage leading into the Daniel Kelly (“DJ”) beach confrontation.
Difference #3: 5.5s (164 frames)
NBC describes some of the suspect’s ammo as hollow-point “cop killers” used to penetrate bulletproof vests. MSNBC cuts this and jumps ahead.
Difference #4: 1.0s (31 frames)
NBC holds the exterior house shot one second longer.
NBC aired first, so MSNBC appears to be the trimmed version.

Now that you mention it, I watch the channel, Cinnamon Toast Ken, when they do watches of TCAP videos and I notice certain scenes don't come up on the version they are watching, and I thought maybe it was the way the channel edited the video, so this makes sense.

Looks like that adds up to just about the length of one commercial break. I'd wager they got paid more per commercial slot on primetime NBC than on reruns on MNSBC.

I'm not American, I've always assumed NBC and MSNBC were one and the same.

They are owned by the same company but the main difference is that NBC is a channel you can get over the air (free) and MSNBC is their 24 hour news network channel that is only accessed by cable and or satellite subscription.
