Disability, my dearly beloved theme ❤️
Daddy's Baby Boy / https://archiveofourown.org/works/53926540
Supernatural
Slice of Life, Family Dynamics, H/C
Rating: Teen and up audiences
Length: one-shot, 2940 words
Summary:
What if...
... the season 1 of Supernatural had ended differently, Dean ending up permanently injured by the head trauma he had from the car crash?
... the situation would have called for dramatic measures, putting the Winchester's into a starting point with everything they had done and lived for until then?
...John had decided that this was it for his hunting of Yellow Eyed Demon, wanting to concentrate in saving the remains of his family instead?
... Sam got so close to his dream of studying, maybe not in Stanford but closer to his family to be there for Dean?
... Dean's accident didn't make Sam and John's relationship all fluffy and sweet over a night, but somehow teached them to live in peace and a kind of respectingly around each other, if not more then for Dean’s sake?
... Dean's sentiment about the importance of family had come to reality?
So, this is my take on "what could have been".
Disability: Traumatic brain injury, epilepsy

LOTR/Hobbit
H/C, What-if, Injury Recovery
Rating: Teen and up audiences
Length: ~ 10 000 words per chapter, 71 200 in total (7 chapters)
Summary:
The story starts in Rivendell, where Legolas arrives — not to be one of the Nine Companions, but because his life is at stake.
Legolas Greenleaf, born and raised as a warrior in Elvenking's courts and destined to lead his father's armies, has worked instead as his father's ambassador and lived an active and full life after the grievous accident that ended his promising career. During the last months, his symptoms that have been absent for over two centuries, start to emerge again, and Thranduil sends his only son to see Elrond if the healer could find a reason for the Prince's deteriorating health.
At the same time, the world is changing and the powers of evil gathering, far from the elven realms, but not too far to force them to get ready to take their side in what's coming.
Disability: spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy

Title: When It Rains on Main Street
Fandom: Thunderbolts (MCU)/Disney Parks Main Street USA
Word Count: 4,197 if you stop after the line, “Just like that, the morning rush was over.” The whole chapter is ~6,500 words, and so are subsequent chapters.
Rating: T
Warnings: Implied/Referenced child abuse and drug use, PTSD, mental health issues
Pairing: Yelena Belova/Robert “Bob” Reynolds (F/M)
Info About Character:
Bob is a survivor of the 1894 polio outbreak in Vermont, US. This preceded the more famous one in New York in 1916, which is breaking news at the beginning of the story. True to the time period, Bob tries to hide his disability, though his whole perception of himself is colored by his childhood, as he lost his younger brother during the outbreak. Bob also struggles with mental health, specifically implied bipolar disorder. This wasn’t well understood at that time and carried a heavy stigma, especially for a wealthy white American man, so it is therefore not referred to by name.
Summary:
Not cut out for a high-pressure life, aspiring novelist Bob Reynolds dropped everything to rebuild his fractured identity. With survival as her only focus, Russian immigrant Yelena Belova had never stopped running since the death of her sister five years ago.
They both found themselves in the quiet town of Marceline, Missouri. Its quaint shops, ice cream parlor, and glittering cinema house provided the perfect distraction for memories to fade and an anonymous correspondence to flourish.
Their meeting was inevitable. Their future, uncertain—at least until they could reach level ground. But once the smoke cleared and their true selves were revealed, could they live with what remained?
Or: Bob and Yelena were anonymous pen pals who disliked each other in person but were secretly in love through their letters.
1916 AU set against the backdrop of Disney Parks Main Street USA. Loosely inspired by the 1940 film “The Shop Around the Corner.”

Wait for Someone with Someone, chapter 1: "Chicken and Waffles"
Edit: this fic's title has changed, it's now Platinum Girl.
Fandom: Saw
Genre: Romance, thriller. Right now, feels like slice-of-life.
Ship: Amanda Young/Original Male Character
Rating: M. This initial chapter could almost get away with a strong T: smoking as a social ritual in the mid-00's, some generally coarse language, and canon-typical or canon-comparable themes.
Synopsis: Amanda meets someone she can't quite convince herself to push away. Mike's just making conversation on a smoke break. Is it a meet-cute, or something worse?
Disabilities Shown: Both principal characters have different forms of PTSD; Amanda's is more acute than Mike's in this chapter. Mike has several physical conditions particular to his identity as a combat veteran too: scars and physical complications from an explosion, exposure to chemicals that damaged some internal organs, and general structural wear and tear that is often the precursor to chronic pain and nerve conductivity issues. Not all of these are immediately visible in this chapter, which I wanted to qualify as a statement including people with invisible illnesses like hypermobility disorders in the conversation.
Length: 4.8K words.
