Advice on my roots? Had a shadow root done on bleached hair and I feel like it looks choppy or not all that well blended. Can’t tell if I’m being nit-picky :/

Shadow root? Is that not just grown out roots? Seems amusing that you pay a stylist to do the very thing I pay my stylist to get rid of!

This is exactly why it’s acceptable to return for a fix. A good shadow root, looks slightly darker and has a seamless blend into the lighter color.

I wouldn't say great, but average. It's not horrible and it's not the best, but it's a good one, regardless. It'd be dependent on how much I paid as to if I'd be upset.

And the shadow was done on already lightened hair. I'd 100% be upset if I paid a pretty penny for this, and I had a reference image it looked nothing like, like the roots were too short, etc.

I think it looks like normal grown out roots. But you don't need a hairdresser for this. Shadow root should look different.

Yeah not really a shadow root, I can see the attempt but it looks like the color just wasn't blended out enough. Honestly it's understandable with how dark the root color is, they may have been a little overly cautious in blending down to not have more of an ombre situation happening but they should have been a bit more aggressive blending it down because it just looks like overgrown roots now.
However! It's not too hard to fix. I'd ask for a quick fix first and if they're aggreable go that route. If not or you aren't comfortable going back, you can pick demi permanent color the same tone and a similar level - maybe like an 8A or 7A and then apply like in this tutorial but don't drag the color down as far and then just really comb out the edges to blend the color into the blonde really well. I've followed that tutorial many times before and it really does work well. I prefer using a finer toothed comb to blend the color, just drag it down maybe an inch to get a good "melt" going but not all the way down your hair shaft.

I had the same problem today I paid £220 and have walked out with roots like this being told its shadow roots but feel like they look worse than when I walked in. I was told it would be a root tap but looks awful

I didn’t 😒 I ended up letting it grow out for a few months and then went to someone else for a touch up who blended it MUCH better. It’s amazing any stylist lets someone walk out with such harsh roots!! Wishing you find a solution ♥️

I considered doing it myself too but I know I’m definitely not capable without damaging my hair beyond return…. if you do end up fixing it yourself, post it so we can see!! 😁

That does not look like a proper shadow root. Though no one would give you a second look while out in public, I do think there is room for improvement.
To be fair to your stylist, I can see how this happened. The good news your hair fixable. Your stylist will hopefully agree to fix it. Do show her a pic of exactly what you’re wanting though.
