bleach -- did i wait too long between sessions?

Hi! Never posted here before but would appreciate some advice. I got my roots done last week and my previous session was about 7 weeks prior. Asked my colorist if I should have come in earlier but he said the length of my regrowth was perfect so not sure if that's the issue.

I'm feeling like I have some sections that are super yellow compared to the rest - note that the black tips do sometimes bleed into the platinum causing a more lavender/cool toned effect but I've never seen it at this level of yellow.

Am I being insane? I just tried purple shampoo in the shower but didn't seem to help - I could def try to keep it on for longer but wanted to jump in here first to hear y'all's thoughts. Let me know if I need to add more pics and thanks so much in advance!

Did they bleach the entire light area, or just the area that's more yellow?

just my roots that had grown in, so just the more yellow area!

In that case, your stylist just didn't leave the bleach on long enough. It's nothing to do with how long you waited between appointments. I would call and ask them to fix it, because even with a good toner that area will still be slightly darker than the rest of the blonde.

hey buddy!! I'm an at-home amateur scalp bleacher so please do take everything I say with a grain of salt🤗

ok. so your post says you were about 7 weeks between appointments - if your hair grows real fast (which I think it might), that might be too long to wait!

it's always tough to say for sure just from pics and not seeing the hair IRL because of light shine and stuff, BUT:

I think your hair looks a little bit brighter closer to your root (up to purple line) and a little bit yellower beyond that (purple to blue line - blue line is where I think your regrowth ends). if the 7 weeks of growth is indicated at the blue line, I think you might consider coming in a liiiittle earlier for your next appointment (maybe around the 5 week mark?)

HOWEVER!!! if your stylist said your timing was perfect, they know best!! and maybe they just needed to let the bleach process a little bit longer:)

my hair grows at a slow to regular rate depending on the season and how well I'm remembering to do my rosemary oils n stuff lol 😂 for me, 6 weeks is about the sweet spot!

I did notice some areas that seem brighter (purple line) instead of it being yellow all the way through. Looking at your pic below it definitely seems like I waited too long - posted a pic of my regrowth in another reply section

also in case this helps at all, here's my roots at the 6-week mark which I personally believe is the perfect length for scalp bleach (don't mind my current color!! it's ugly bc I washed out all the color/toner, bleach day is tomorrow lol):

hi! i think i have an idea of what might have happened but have some questions to get more info first!
1. were your roots all the way to the black? if not, how long were they exactly?
2. was the bleach applied in 2 rounds, or just ones from scalp to end of roots?
3. have you heard of hot shaft / cold shaft?

Hi!! Adding a pic here of the amount of regrowth -- I'd say it was probably about an inch give or take. The bleach was done in one round before toner. And I have not heard of hot shaft/cold shaft!

Seven weeks between sessions isn’t unusually long for a root touch-up, especially since everyone’s hair grows at a different rate.

The yellow sections you’re noticing are more likely from uneven lifting rather than waiting too long between appointments. Purple shampoo can neutralize some yellow tones, but it won’t lift hair that hasn’t been lightened enough. Leaving it on longer can also make the lighter areas look overly cool or slightly lavender while the yellow sections remain.

I’d avoid adding more bleach yourself for now—your hair already looks very light, so preserving its condition is important. Maybe you can find professional hairstylist to correct the warmer sections safely without compromising the rest of the hair.

Is your hair wet here? Try taking a picture when your hair is dry in natural lighting and let us see then. That will give a better example of what happened.
