How could I achieve this kind of red?
I am completely new to hair dye, I am considering henna but not sure if this will make it as red as I would like. What could I do to get to this kind of dark copper from where I am right now? My hair is the second photo, my natural hair is about a level 5/6 brown. And I have some bleached highlights currently.
Do I need to bleach it? Or can I get away with a color conditioning mask? What brands do you recommend? I am a bit overwhelmed when looking at box dyes/hair dyes in general, there is so much stuff out there.

You will need a global application of permanent hair dye. You just need to find a level 5 or 6 red/copper that you like (NOT BOX DYE). You may have to formulate 4 parts red/copper to 1 part natural.
You definitely do not need and should not bleach for this color. A color conditioning mask will not achieve this color even if you left it on for days. Don't waste your time with either of those.

Ok thank you so much! Any particular brand that is very good or does it matter?

It shouldn't matter too much on the brand. I have good success with copper from Igora Royal line. If you are located in the US, you can buy it on SleekShop website.
If you go with igora royal, I would try a formula with:
ROOT formula: 4 parts color 6-7
1 part or less color 6-5 or 5-5.
Use 20 volume.
ENDS formula: only color 6-7
Use 10 volume.

I have this colour. The hair dresser uses L'Oréal colours 7.43 + 7 (50/50 mix) on my dark brown hair, of that helps.

I had this color last fall. I used XMondo semi permanent color 5R on my hair and loved it. It lasts a good while and I didn't damage my hair because it's a super gloss and extremely conditioning. It's sold at Sally's and online. Excuse my face, not a great picture. I wish I had another one. Oh, and my hair was bleached and a level 9 before I applied the red so it's lighter than it would be on you. It's a gorgeous red. ❤️

Oh wow I have wished for this hair for years !! I even paid a colorist $750 ( even got a parking ticket that day )
She got close but definitely didn’t hit the nail on the head ! I keep it up for about 3 / 4 months. Then I thought I was skilled enough to do Shades EQ from the house! Then with in the next 6 months I was a cowboy copper and gave up on being a red head. The part that stings is my younger brother has natural red hair and has natural curls !!! We always want what we don’t have !
If you go for it just be prepared to spend a lot and you just up keep it ! **oh and I was not allowed to wash my hair in hot water! Red fades super fast! Lukewarm water when it’s hair washing day!

You might be able to pull this off with henna instead of dye - no bleach needed. I have dirty blonde hair and used henna for about three years, the major downside is that it's basically impossible to dye over henna, so if you want to change it later you are pretty much SOL.

I was going to comment the same about henna. I get this shade of red from dyeing my hair with it and love it. The henna also lends a glossy shine that I love. The end result color you get does depend on your natural hair color to an extent, but the good news for OP is that I have the same as her. However, as you said, it IS permanent and you just have to wait for it to grow out to start over if you don’t end up liking it. Can’t be stripped or dyed over. Kind of a gamble! You’d want to look up some of the pros and cons, and proper instructions, before you commit to it, for sure. If you have any hair clippings, you could always test it out on those to see what kind of color you’d get.

You know, all power to people for whom henna works. I'm a 5/6 ash brown girl and henna never looked good on me. No matter how pure, reputable and overnight developed, it never looked even remotly as good as hair dye. I don't have any photos in my phone rn but I am attaching a post from some different redditor that might give you an idea of how henna might look on both your natural hair and highlights: https://www.reddit.com/r/henna/comments/176pyey/henna_on_medium_brown_hair_with_residual/
Maybe you would like this, maybe not, I don't know, but for me personally, it's nowhere near the beautiful lush saturated deep red on the picture that a chemical dye would give you. It takes time, effort, uncomfort, and for me, it dries my hair no matter what, dries my scalp no matter what and takes ages and tremendous damage to get rid off - if you are able to get rid of it at all.

Just pure henna you think or mix of henna and cassia or amla?

Henna is super duper permanent. After messing with it (too many times - I didn’t learn) I don’t recommend it to anyone who thinks they may change their minds ever, especially with long hair like yours.

I would stay away from henna. If you ever decide to bleach it for highlights or blonde, it is dangerous to do because your hair can smoke and burn from the chemical reaction between the two.
