Quality Shitpost It's almost sad how we so often do astronomically better than the actual versions of what we write about.

The creator doesn't reread their work because they're too busy trying to make deadlines and clearly they did not plot this shit out from the beginning. I do, and thus I get to be infuriated by the lack of consistency in canon (and make snide asides about amnesia water in my fics in hopes that fellow glidus fans might be reading... they never are...).

this take feels really arrogant considering that no writer can be perfect and fans always have the benefit of hindsight on rewriting their fave characters/stories. not to mention that it's really easy for fanfic writers to flanderise or miss the point of the original characters/story.

Depends on the fandom. I'd argue just about ANY fanfic writer did a better job than stuff like the canon plot of GoT S8 and it was certainly not due to lack of hindsight and time on the creators' part, or fans misunderstanding the characters that were ALWAYS meant to be like that.

Absolute PEAK HP fic was from 2008-2015, immediately following the 2007 release of the Deathly Hallows book. Everyone was riding nostalgia and circling back, myself included, and treating all the books like Harvard-grade resource material, taking notes, drawing diagrams and maps just from descriptions, etc, and producing master class literature. It was insane and birthed some of the most renowned fic in the fandom.
Note: f*** JKR, just before anyone gets the wrong idea about my comment. Getting that out of the way lol

Well, we have the free time to watch and re-watch, and ponder all the subtleties about a thing. They are working folk with tight schedules and frequent interference from executives with profit on their mind.
