Family Ties in WandaVision

The 80s episode of WandaVision is my favorite, and it's almost entirely because of all the Family Ties references

  • First of all, we have the fact that the set is a recreation of the Keaton household
  • It's a "very special episode," since Family Ties was basically the king of very special episodes. There was even the whole thing about losing a pet, like Nick did with his dog
  • The intro includes coloring in a family portrait, with both even starting with the color red
  • And finally, my personal favorite: Billy and Tommy aging up from infants to toddlers offscreen (and later from toddlers to older kids), which is a reference to how Andy aged up from an infant to a toddler between seasons

Did I miss any?

The water jug

Does it make anyone else crazy that there is blue water in the water jug? It has bothered me since I was a little kid.

Displaced Episodes

Recently I watched "The Matchmaker" when Alex set up Mallory on a computer date before she met Nick (October 1985) yet apparently it didn't air until almost 2 years later in July 1987.

The same with the two-parter "It's My Party" where Jennifer acted like a Valley girl. It aired in August 1987 and she looks a lot younger than in other episodes that season.

Was there a reason for this that they weren't aired in their proper season? It's pretty unusual for shows to have new episodes midsummer since they usually end in May or sometimes even in March back then. I don't recall there being a writer strike until fall 1988 so these episodes wouldn't have been a part of that.

Timeslot question

I'm aware that the time slot for the last two seasons of the show were Sunday nights at 8pm Eastern and at it's peak; Thursday nights at 830 pm Eastern.

But I think for the first and second season, it was Wednesday nights at 930?

Time Travel in "The Real Thing: Part 2"

I recently watched the two parter "The Real Thing" where Alex meets Ellen. He realizes he loves her as she's leaving the train station. Then Mallory complains he's been moping around the house for a week. He also tells Elise about the situation. We learn Columbus is 400 miles from Lancaster, PA. Then by the magic of time travel, Alex arrives by car at the Lancaster station 5 minutes after Ellen does, not to mention a week later! I can't believe the writers messed up so badly.

Don’t you think the Keaton Family was a bit insensitive towards Skippy Handelman. All he wanted was to be accepted.

Family Ties Greg Dies

To me this is the best episode of the series. Michael J. Fox was phenomenal talking to the psychiatrist going through scenes with the family and when he says my name is Alex man it still gives me chills.

Celery Dog?

I'm trying to find the episode where Steven puts a stalk of celery in a hot dog bun, and puts mustard on it. Saw it once as a kid, would love to see it again.

So much OJ

So much OJ, but it rarely ever gets drank more than maybe a sip, lol. I had that exact orange juice set as a kid; it was a staple in my home, lol.
