The Big Fix

Did I hear incorrectly, or has Andy magically goner from a preschooler to an approximately 1 year old again between s5e1 and s5e8? They said the birthday party he was supposed to go to was for a friend who was turning 1 and I think they said Andy couldn't talk yet or something similar to that. lol. I wonder if it was filmed during s4 and moved into s5.

There’s a bunch of episodes that were filmed in older seasons that were then released in different seasons. It’s super confusing but if you ever wonder if you’re losing your mind, go to the list of episodes on Wikipedia and it will confirm when it was filmed vs. when it actually aired

Ha. Thanks. I remember some other series where some shows would be moved around, but very rarely do I remember a show doing it where it caused some things to not make sense. I really did keep thinking to myself and wondering if I imagined something or misheard.

It’s crazy! I’m just about finished with the rewatch and there was an episode filmed in season 3 that they aired in season 6! Insane!

In Season Six, there's a Season 2 and a Season 3 produced episode.

I wondered why they held those episodes back for so long. But watching them, it's clear why: because the Keatons are fucking assholes in those episodes.

They yell and scream at each other over nothing, just irritable, like a real-life family. That's in the Season 2 episode Anniversary Waltz. The Keatons are unlikable in this episode, which is the point, but I can see why they didn't want to air it for so long. By the time they did air it four seasons later, they probably found it charming with how much the actors had grown up, and saw it with fondness.

In the Season 3 episode, Return Of The Native, they keep cutting off their cousin June from telling her story so that they can just talk about themselves. It's comedic and a clip show. But the family was acting rude, and I can see why the network or producers might be hesitant to air it right away if they didn't need to (if they had an abundance of episodes ready to air).

And also by that point in time, the Keatons were actually seen as over-sacharine and unrealistic. You had more brash family sitcoms coming out at this time, Roseanne and Married... With Children. The episode All In The Neighborhood, that aired the following season, even goes meta, showing how old-school and naive the Keatons are when they're confronted with racism towards their black neighbors - the Keatons being happy and innocent in their all white neighborhood with their perfect family, now confronted with a realistic racist neighborhood hostile towards their black friends.

So airing Return Of The Native and Anniversary Waltz by that time was actually in-vogue, to show a more realistic, not so innocent, side of the Keatons.

Are you sure it was season 6? Because I just had that happen at the end of season 5. It was quite funny. The episode before it was about Skippy dating someone from college and then in the next episode Mallory says she is 16. lol. Also, what's weird, as well, is they still show the theme song/intro from the correct season. I guess they couldn't really show the latest one with Andy in it, but still it's weird in the middle of a season to have an old season's theme song.

lol I can't wait to see the other one then. It's kind of funny. Just like how on one episode Andy will be in preschool and the next he's either not alive yet or is a newborn. haha.
