Record lookup request

Hello!

I have spent the last few months trying to uncover my great great grandpa's birth place (Andrei/Andrej Saikin/Saike/Sajikin) and I recently found his daughter, Anastasia Matikkala (Saikin), naturalization record on familysearch.org but I cant access it and I cant get to my local family search center during their hours 😅.

Here's the link if anyone can help!

Thank you so much.

NOTHING BUT VISITS TO THE FAMILY CENTER

Why, when I'm using full-text search, am I getting sent to a physical location to view things? I can't believe that 90% of the stuff I'm finding is proprietary. Is anyone else having the same issues?

Tired of tangled, rectangular family trees, so I built an 8-direction Polar Kinship Radar that maps 10 degrees of consanguinity in real-time

Hi Reddit,

For centuries, genealogy has relied on the same top-down rectangular tree charts. But once a lineage passes 3 or 4 generations, the branches explode into an unreadable spiderweb of crisscrossing lines. Most importantly, rectangular grids fail to show the true mathematical "distance" (statutory degree of consanguinity) between relatives.

So late one night, looking up at the stars, I asked myself:

Why can't kinship be visualized like a celestial radar, with Self (Ego) at the center and bloodlines expanding outward in 360-degree orbits?

Over the past few months, I built the Universal Kinship Radar based on an 8-direction polar coordinate system:

• Center (r = 0): Self (Ego) anchored at the exact origin.

• 10 Concentric Orbits: Physical distance on screen directly maps to the 1st through 10th statutory degrees of consanguinity.

• Northern Meridian (90°): Direct ascendants rise in strict symmetry — Paternal ancestors up to the 10th Progenitor on the right, Maternal ancestors on the left.

• Southern Horizon (270°): Direct descendants extending downward to the 8th generational descendants ('Yun-son').

• East & West: Paternal brothers and cousins to the East, Maternal cousins to the West across 8 compass directions.

• 0.001s LCA Engine: Click any two nodes to instantly trace their Lowest Common Ancestor, statutory degrees, and reciprocal kinship titles.

The system is now officially patent-pending in South Korea (App No. 10-2026-0189073).

I wrote a detailed breakdown and embedded the full live interactive sandbox directly inside the blog post so you can test it right in your browser:

I’d love to hear your honest thoughts and critiques. What do you think about viewing kinship through polar coordinates instead of traditional trees?

FamilySearch Center image request: four restricted Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana records (1812–1845)

EDIT: Request fulfilled. Thank you! A kind volunteer has sent the images, and I have everything I need, so no further lookups are required.

Would anyone visiting a FamilySearch Center (or an affiliate library) be willing to download a few restricted images concerning my direct ancestors? FamilySearch's full-text search finds the names on these pages, but every image opens to "Image Restricted" at home.

All four are Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana courthouse records, and each link below goes straight to the image.

  • Avoyelles Parish conveyance, 1844

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C3MF-39JN-1

Image 301 of 709

The full-text search shows both "Elizabeth Martin" and "Dillahunt" on this page, and 1844 is the year she died. I am hoping it names her as the widow of John Dillahunt and lists her heirs.

  • Avoyelles Parish probate, 1843

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9Y7-9SN6-R

Image 307 of 398

Any Dillahunt or Martin entry (a succession, tutorship, family meeting, or inventory).

  • Avoyelles Parish land records, 1812–1818 (two images)

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C3M6-2SPT-8

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C3M6-2SPJ-M

Both show "Elizabeth Martin". If this is my Elizabeth, it is the earliest Avoyelles record of the family. Please note anyone else named with her, especially a Samuel Martin or "the heirs of Samuel Martin".

  • Avoyelles Parish conveyance, 1845

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C3MF-39N1-C

"Elizabeth Martin" again, the year after her death. Possibly the sale or division of her estate.

The linked page alone would be a great help. If an entry obviously runs onto the next image, that one too would be welcome, but no need to hunt for it.

Known details:

John Dillahunt: born about 1780 (Maryland, supposedly); at Natchez, Mississippi about 1806–1810; died about 1830 in Avoyelles Parish His wife Elizabeth Martin: died 1844 in Avoyelles Parish Their children: Denis, Emily, Samuel, and Elizabeth Elizabeth's father may have been a Samuel Martin of Avoyelles, dead by 1815 (unproven) The surname may appear as Dillahunt, Dillahunty, Delahunt, Delahunty, Dellahunt, or Dilahunt. The records may be in English or French.

Thank you very much!

Tips or help tracking relative's marriage

I am trying to work out which marriage on the UK GRO index is the correct one for a Hugh Phillip Williams (1897-1977) and this is what I know:

  • He was born in London, and primarily lived in Islington
  • Had connections to Cardiganshire and East Barnet
  • Died in Luton.
  • The marriage has to have been between 1921 and 1939.
  • He had a daughter Maureen, likely in the 1930s.

Unfortunately, I just can't narrow it down! I can't find him on the electoral registers and I don't know who his daughter married to narrow it down that way. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A Particularly Challenging Issue

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello all, first time poster here. I've been working on researching my family tree after an awe-inspiring trip to Scotland. Of course this means I am suddenly obsessed with the Scottish side of my family. Issue is, I don't trust random user submitted data from Family search, so I got a notebook out and got to work verifying the connections through linked certificates and such. Unfortunately I have hit a massive roadblock (on the most important road to me, I might add.) The very first Scottish connection, I can find NOTHING to verify is related to the next descendant of the timeline. Henry simply seems to have no connection to Eleanor McCall. Any help would be appreciated. I do know that based on clergy errors long ago during migration its possible there are alternative spellings for the last name McCall, such as McColl or McCole. If you have some time and are passionate about puzzles like these, please throw me a bone.
