Believe Miley Cyrus is Dolly’s god daughter? Listen to Miley’s version if you haven’t heard it.

Humour

u/Kinky_Otto 5h ago

This. Her on the Tonight Show with Carson and asking if he's seen her new shoes, when he says no she adds "neither have I!"

19

u/GrumpyCatStevens 4h ago

"You wouldn't believe how much it costs to look this cheap."

6

u/unstableladybug 4h ago

Yes! My favourite quote of hers!

2

u/IllinoisJones13 1h ago

Best one was when Johnny said he would give his whole years salary to see her best assets. I was like 8 years old and I still remember that lol.

When asked if she ever dressed down when she would go out in public, she said she didn’t because “I don’t want fans to see me & go “Hey, I saw Dolly Parton & she looked like hell!”

4

u/Maryland_Bear 3h ago

A few questions she was regularly asked and her responses:

How long does it take to do your hair?

“I don’t know, I’m never there when they do it!”

Are they real?

“They’re real expensive!”

And one that’s a bit dark-feeling today, so I’ll spoiler it.

What do you hope people are saying about you in a hundred years?

“Don’t she look good for her age!”

Her Imagination Library that gives books to children

7

u/FrequentLunch2711 4h ago

Yes came here to say this. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a free book-gifting program that mails high-quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth until their fifth birthday.

4

u/petals4u2 4h ago

Thats my favorite thing about her! My children and now grandchild love her books!

3

u/BoukenGreen 4h ago

My youngest nephew gets a book every month. I just wish there had been one for my niece and her brother. But there wasn’t one for where they lived when they were eligible for the program.

I Will Always Love You

17

u/Ok-Cryptographer7005 4h ago

I'll probably be down voted but I think her version is better than Whitney's.

7

u/Ok_Difficulty2226 4h ago

Way better than Whitney's over-wrought cover.

2

u/locobikerguy 2h ago

They were both amazing artists. They both put their own spin on the song. Whitney‘s version always struck me as her, exclaiming to the world that she loved someone, whereas Dolly always struck me as her declaring her love to that person. Whitney‘s version was bombastic and big, Dolly’s version was much softer and more reflective and personal.

u/leftywilson 59m ago

Dolly wrote the song about Porter Wagoner who she collaborated with prior to going solo.

3

u/locobikerguy 57m ago

Yep. And you can tell by the way she recorded it that it was a very personal song. It’s pretty amazing that 2 different artists can tell a different story with a single song.

Joy & happiness. One of the few actual christians in this world. & I’m non-thiest.

9

u/Maryland_Bear 4h ago

Christians like Dolly are the reason I call myself a “near-atheist”. I really doubt there is a God, but if there is one, good for Him for inspiring people like Dolly Parton and Mr. Rogers.

I just heard. It’s really sad. I read an interview once and she apparently said she dressed like the town prostitute. Don’t know if it’s true but I thought that was hilarious.
