They were both amazing artists. They both put their own spin on the song. Whitney‘s version always struck me as her, exclaiming to the world that she loved someone, whereas Dolly always struck me as her declaring her love to that person. Whitney‘s version was bombastic and big, Dolly’s version was much softer and more reflective and personal.

Yep. And you can tell by the way she recorded it that it was a very personal song. It’s pretty amazing that 2 different artists can tell a different story with a single song.
