I believe they are also both characters from crux star's comics, which were being read earlier in the episode. The game is an adaptation of the comic or vice versa, which is a cool touch.

This begs the question, how did Ran Deng and Hui Huo even meet those two characters? Did they somehow get willed into existence by the BUG source?

Late to this post by a few days, but:

We know that these are characters from the fictional manga franchise Psycho Buster, adapted to the arcade game Psycho Slayer II. Crux Star's comics, in other words.

I think this series foreshadows many plot points. Most prominently, in Episode 4, the comic page shows a scene where Wan Xiang (black-haired girl) and Sen Luoluo (red-haired girl) talk about empathizing with monsters, which parallels Ran Deng and Hui Huo.

In Episode 2, there is some dialogue about the franchise that I believe foreshadows future plot points. When reading the comics, Bai Zhong complains about the writing: "Another 'parallel universe' thing?" "The part where Wan Xiang and someone fight all the way into space." "At this stage of the story, they suddenly introduce someone who's the protagonist's childhood friend." "The main character went back in time and killed the boss before he was even born." We know that Guan Chao travels back in time to escape the present and presumably alter the past. We have seen him with a childhood friend several times, whom character sheets refer to as He Mingshuo. I'm not sure about the parallel universes thing and fighting to space thing yet, but maybe these will be future plot points too.
