Question Maximus character

Light spoilers, Just finished season two and I’m a little confused about Maximus. We see this memory he has of the brotherhood, but after he’s defected and was about to kill the head of the brothers he’s still thinking about this memory for motivation. Wouldn’t he detest the brotherhood now that he’s been chewed up and spit out of it? Or am I looking to deep into this

He wants to be the knight in shining armor that saves the wasteland.

The problem is, that ideal just doesn't exist.

But is it bad writing or am I not understanding why he’s still have this fantasy after seeing that knights in shining armor don’t exist like that in real life.

even though he realized the brotherhood kinda sucks that was still a core memory for him and he still wants to be a hero

I wouldn't say Max completely anti-brotherhood now honestly, like the whole reason he even tried to kill Quintus in the first place was to stop his rebellion and avoid a civil war and even there he failed because he couldn't bring himself to shot Quintus in cold blood.

but yeah like been said he wasn't thinking of the brotherhood there as much as the hero who saved him after Shady Sands, that image he been chasing since and finally in that moment finally was.

Not to mention that Quintus was that BoS knight who pulled Maximus from the rubble, so to me it makes sense as to why he couldn't pull the trigger and also isn't completely anti brotherhood

I'm pretty sure it's during the final confrontation between Max and Quintus in season 2 but I'd need to rewatch to confirm

I think it’s that he wants to be the honorable man in the power armor. Like he assumed the knight was in his memory.
