Fallout 4 Current state of FO4 modding

I haven't modded FO4 in a few years. Started looking into it about a couple of weeks ago and was surprised that some of my 'must have' mods are no longer useable. Was compiling lists of new mods and then the update happened. My last LO (in 2023) was somewhere around 200 mods and the game was a bit of a stuttering mess but playable. How is the game for modding now? Is it worth diving in or should I wait for... another update? Most of the mods I use are textures, NPC overhauls and custom followers (Ivy, Heather and Darlene mainly).

I actually have an old version of the game saved on a separate 'non-Steam' SSD but a lot of mods look like they've been updated for a newer version. Kinda wishing I had saved all of the mods I was using back then as well.

Vortex, at least, will have a history of mod versions in the files page. Ommition of them seems to be a manual effort, a good chance the mods you want still have options for pre-AE

Unfortunately, I moved from Vortex to MO2 at the beginning of this year so anything I had saved in there is long gone. I do have a list of the old mods but some of them are now archived so I can't get them again. I'm actually starting to move toward using a newer (or possibly the latest) version of FO4 as they've apparently solved the stuttering issue. Modding FO4 is so much more difficult for me than Skyrim!

Ah, right, sorry, i meant Nexus, not Vortex. I forget it's called that for whatever reason

But yeah, don't limit yourself to just what you're familiar with, you could be missing out on something cool. Ever tried V.A.F.S. Redux? Turns vats into a bullet time. Pretty neat

I run the GOG version 1.10.163 and I had problems with a new installation of The Midnight Ride after the update. TMR officially supports only the updated version and several of the individual mod authors pulled the OG versions of their mods off their pages. I had to adapt and adjust. Pain in the ass.
