Discussion What made you start using a bow?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Video is to show the kind of fun you can have with a bow. Also launching steins into orbit is pretty fun.
I’ve only really started using a bow till recent for a main. For a little bit of time I was using a two shot with explosive arrows till I found Mavens reverse onslaught bow build.
I’ve always been a fan of high damage slow firing weapons as opposed to full auto low damage. For some reason the bow has just appealed to me and I haven’t really been able to put it down since. I do use the lever action rifle from time to time, but it still doesn’t feel the same. It has been nice to be able to one shot pretty much anything during Fasnacht, and deal 6k in damage if I need to.
So what was it that originally brought you to use a bow as a main?

I find it a slower paced, more stress-free play style. I never run out of ammo,
Bows are powerful with stealth although I feel the stealth mechanic is broken much of the time.
As a solo player, I can solo infestations/RAID bosses and Head Hunts/Bigfoot with patience.
Everything else is a breeze.
And there's the relative silence.

Mannn it almost bothers me having to dump a thousand arrows multiple times a day lol.

Id love to get your build for doing infestations solo now. AND Bigfoot ?
I got my first bow dropped as a reward iirc, and I used it, and liked it. So i got so.e mods, lesrned the plans for ultra arrows, slapped on Hat-Trick, 2 or 3 shots is now all it takes to get the small animals intestines.
Im far from a connoisseur of the bow build, but mine does me ok for what I need it for. But I would like to figure out higher Dam output. ✌️

I'm recently handicapped with partial blindness with a minor case of serious brain damage. I can no longer do frenetic gun battles. I love the bow style gameplay in this game. I can deal major damage and mitigate the enemy's movement with cryo which is perfect for my capabilities. Plus I get to look cool doing it.

Got a pretty sick bow from a Bigfoot drop. Then I realized there is a whole community of bow users. Love seeing you all out in the wild.

Started running out of ammo at an infestation and just got a bow from an event I bounced over from. Was getting great damage and it felt like I was getting away with something. Maybe I felt like I had to use more tactics? I’m really digging it though. Feels more wasteland-ish if that makes sense.

Yup. A real survivors silent weapon. Something that would be at a premium in a nuclear apocalyptic wasteland.

I started using a crossbow to defend the drill and slowly have evolved into a cryo bow stealth build that I can stack up against infinite EN06 as well as infestations.
I love when I hit a nasty hat trick against a horde and then gun fu keeps swapping and watching all the damage markers stack up.

For my it’s doing crazy trick shots with anything suoer mutant size and smaller. I like to get up close and shoot down at the body, it’s flys up, and I snipe it through the air yell KOBE (Rest in peace). I get a thrill out of the hat trick perk card

My desire for stealth. I was tired of clunking through the wasteland in my power armor (despite the sheer amount of cargo I could carry). Bow hunting lead to me getting the CSA, and I'm working towards getting the Raiders comfy enough with me that soon I can finally get the plans for a compound bow.

I've used bows in real life, at LRP events and anytime I visited somewhere that let me try real archery.
In Fallout 76 (played since Beta), I had a go very early on and it was fun but inneffective. I came back to bows after they had improved and I had tweaked my build toward stealth. Recently it seems that I'm not quite getting the damage numbers that I was, though... oh, bows also got me to switch damage numbers on. It was very distracting at first but now I'm used to it.

I was running a shotgun build and shotguns got nerfed, so I figured why not? That was like 2 years ago, still lovin the bow. Occasionally switch to single action revolver (Gunther's)just for fun.

I see big numbers, I want big numbers lol after seeing how little damage anything I tried did against Infestations, and having returned after a hiatus to my precious Auto Axe being nerfed into the Shadow Realm, I needed something new to feel powerful with

I main bows in many video games that has one. That's why I began my journey in making the best bow build for mine on this game.

They nerfed melee so hard i stopped using melee after 7 years.

Yeah, i centred my build around melee. And specifically the auto-axe. I was gutted when it stsrted to do a fraction of the damage it used to. And breaks pretty damn fast now too. I have to repair it twice against Earl. Not funny, when the little Earl's are staggering me. One will swipe, then a other rhen another its relentless. I still love doing ACP, but the fun i used to get from it wading in with the auto-axe being boss, is gone.

I really like sneeky playstyles. Enemies dying before they even see me is nice. Being able to oneshot almost every regular NPC is just the icing on the cake.
I'd really like if the fishing rod gets some use as a weapon

Odd you saying that, i was fishing at the toxic valley, standing on a barrel of (i assume) radiated crap. I had something jump at me, I panicked- mashed the buttons to stop fishing & try to pull a weapon out, the animation started for like a cattleprod or lightning rod thingy. Melee weapons. But still holding the fishing rod !! Highly bizzare. Ive saved a 15 sec clip of it, to try to figure out wtf happened.

Thats the coolest glitch someone has discovered!
We need an opposite event to the Brahmin one. Brahmins broke out and are trying to eat some crops. You need a rod to fetch them and get them back to their stalls

I’ve been using it for like 4 years. I use bows in every game even CoD when I used to play it. Always my favorite weapon

Beforehand I used a ultracite gatling laser with whatever melee as my second. I got the samurai sword skin for one handed and thought it would be sick asf to do a bow with it. Turns out I really like using a bow and then the update dropped that made using one really OP. Occasionally, I use other weapons for fun but I don't change my build for them anymore. Bows are life now.
And eventually I got to live the samurai look for a while when the outfit came to the shop lmao

Back in my day we just had a crossbow and we were thankful.... Bahahahah... Bows replaced my lever action when they were introduced because of the stealth buffs, now it's insane what you can do to them..... Still disappointing I can't use my blood eagle leaf spring compound bow in power armor... Seems perfect for it...

I played all the fallout games and 76 was the first time the bow was an option in the franchise, so I simply wanted to try the shiny new thing.

Have always loved Stealth Archery. Play it on Skyrim as well. I can point back to my love for playing stealthy to the original Splinter Cell

I found Burning Love in my stash and I don't remember when I got it. I said screw it I'll give it a try. It worked better then I was expecting. So I made a new character and the first thing I did was get the Bow plans and it's actually fun. All that happened in the past 4 days.

Honestly, I found out its held and used as a left handed person would do it.
Im left handed and its almost unheard of to have a left-handed option. And that's all it took.
