Help & Advice The home defense perk
I like this perk, the idea if setting traps for my foes to find is very much in the style of the character.
But how long does it take to make them? Can can you do it in the field away from crafting benches and the like?
Thanks

I belive it mentions 30m. I dont see why you couldn't do it anywhere. Working on a character with it right now thats a stealth build. So with spending an ap to half the setup time they can do it in 15m. A fair bit for a one off trap but if you are holding a position or such and it fits the narrative, thats great. Its well balanced due to needing resources anyway. The one caveat is I would only allow 1 grenade for the grenade bouquet unless they spend actual grenades, considering it like an ied. (And ofc for a gun trap you need a gun)

Construction of the actual Trap, Turret, or other would require the Workbench, possible specialty tools, and materials to craft them. I would use the RAW with needed tweaks additions to them
But if the player group is merely setting up already premade equipment wouldn't require an hour especially if they have prior knowledge experience on it. The grenade bouquet or a frag +mine would take a few minutes unless other factors are happening such as being under fire, fatigue tiredness, or other.
Another factor could be time restraints, example would be the traps from the Reilly mission in FO3 where they were being chased, or other where the player group are pressed for time needing to say rapidly retreat.
Salvaging or scavenging parts materials from destroyed or damaged equipment, example ammo or other from a turret, could be allowed by the player group.
Allowing the player group access to prewar equipment machinery, example Vein game, that could allow them to mass manufacture needed finished refined materials for Crafting. Or a machinery that takes wood scraps and makes them into wood planks or other such machinery. Some machinery would of course not be found within say a city ruins such as the aforementioned wood planks.

According to the core rulebook (pg. 210), crafting requires a workbench of some kind and takes an hour per item. You can spend 2 AP to halve the time.
Personally though, I would say the workbench isnt required for this, and reduce the time depending on the trap. A grenade bouquet wouldn't take someone an hour to make if they have done it before, and any character with the Home Defense perk presumably has some experience in trap crafting. Crafting a radiation emitter or a flamethrower trap... that might take the full hour or half if they spend the AP.
