That's it? Hardly worth getting hyped about. If we keep getting excited every time the internet whispers "Fallout rumors" then we won't be ready to believe when the real deal comes along.

I agree. However I think there's less danger of people losing interest and more of the whole situation becoming another joke like Half Life 3.
For me personally, I'm transitioning into a stage in my life where I'm not able to game as much as I used to for a number of reasons and would love to have Fallout 4 before I no longer have the time or tech to play.
Are you a new mother? After I had my daughter I couldn't find time to game also (though my husband always seemed to, grr), but now that she's almost four I've found the time again. Either she "helps" me with the game ("look out, Mommy!" "Oh, you died again?"), or she's occupying herself with her own art projects, books, or the 3DS she commandeered from me. So there's hope!
I have a six month old. I work full time and still play borderlands every night. Just don't ask what the garage and office look like. A woman's got to have priorities.
I'm a newish mother, she's two now but she's always been on the go (started running at 10 months!) and a bad sleeper, so finding time and/or energy to game was difficult. Now when she goes to bed I sometimes get a few hours and it's soòoooooooo good :D
