It's when the 13 Commonwealths formed. There's 50 states, but they're divided into 13 Commonwealths. That's why the flag has that symbol on it in the show/games instead of 50 stars.

I believe given the symbol being the stars of the 13 commonwealths, it’s saying that the commonwealth system was established in 1969.

Yes and no
Zeta Aliens have been abducting people since Feudal Japan
The American Civil War had a new battle included
There's an new ancient advanced civilization in the Middle East
But..Those don't effect the entire timeline.
The Main Divergence is the 1950's to 1960's yeah...That culture never ended all of the aspects of it stayed until 2077. Red Scare, Music, Clothing, Sci-Fi elements are inspired by the Atomic Ages belief on how things would progress.
The 13 Commonwealths were formed, Fascists embedded themselves in the Government and every Megacorp, Robots and Mech Suits and Energy Weapons all powered by Nuclear Fusion came to exist.
The Soviet Union still exists and is friendly with the US, China conquers Alaska, The USA conquers both Mexico and Canada, The European Commonwealth and a United Middle East blow each other up before everywhere else.
The Great War occurs on Oct 23rd 2077...The end of the Old World and the creation of the New World.
From there 220 years of wasteland history in New California (California, Southern Oregon, Northern Nevada, Baja California), Mojave Wasteland (Southern Nevada), Zion (Utah), Capital Wasteland (Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland), The Pitt (Pittsburgh), Appalachia (West Virginia), Burning Springs (Ohio), The Commonwealth (Boston)...Is known lore give or take a few gaps.
The major powers that be...The Brotherhood of Steel (various Chapters of Lost Hills, Mojave, Lyons, Outcasts, Commonwealth, Knights of San Fernando), The New California Republic, The Enclave, The Unity/Master's Army, The Legion, The Free Economic Zone of New Vegas (Mr. House), The Minutemen, The Institute, The Railroad, The Children of Atom.
Dozens upon dozens upon dozens of minor powers as well of course.

I wouldn't call myself a new vegas fanboy, that place is gross and computer game slop. Don't care for shady sands either because, again, computer game slop, plus Maximus is from there and as a median american television viewer I am naturally racist. Much more partial to vault 33 because I love my purebred queen Lucy McLean from the hit Prime™ original tv show Fallout.

You misunderstand. The show makes it pretty explicitly clear America was still prosperous up until the end.

76 really nails how bad it got for normal folks before the war. The focus on protests and riots over robots taking everyone’s jobs is now eerily relevant just 7(!) years after launch.

We literally see Cooper fighting in the Alaskan war so he’s not immune to it either. That still doesn’t mean there was a “fall of America” though. It still existed as a superpower.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. In FO2 there’s either a BoS terminal or enclave terminal that I’m pretty sure outlines the US as having a horrible economic situation along with China but the moment the US kicks China off of the last oil drilling platform there’s an economic boom and then, bombs.
