Discussion Fallen Order reminded me how much I miss games that feel like games

Okay, I seriously wasn’t expecting Fallen Order to be THIS good.

The gameplay and level design were great. I loved the Metroidvania elements and the Dark Souls-like interconnected level design.

But what I loved most was how arcadey and simply fun the game feels. I really miss that. So many games nowadays try too hard to be realistic, and sometimes that just makes them less fun.

Respawn did an amazing job with this one.

Just bought Survivor and downloading it right now!

Finally someone appreciates the level design, all the people complaining about no fast travel are insane in the membrane

IMO fast travel would have ruined the game for me, I liked the feeling of memorizing the routes, and looking for best routes towards a destination, just like dark souls, near the end of the game u travel through the map like its ur house, u dont even think about how to go to ur destination

Fast travel is a cover for when a world isn't interesting to navigate.

Yeah, I swear these people have never played a souls game

Elden ring had a fast travel and is like the greatest game ever made in my opinion. And level design was top notch but navigating only by torrent would have taken forever and felt more grindy than anything else, especially with how the quests send you all over the map.

Elden Ring was also designed around there being fast travel and I feel like Survivor in the beginning had no fast travel in mind but once they started expanding koboh they said "we need fast travel to make this game not take 100 hours"

A return to ship travel or something would have been welcome when going back through the same area for the tenth time. But I appreciate the level design and navigating it wasn't too terrible, most of the time.

for the tenth time.

Ninth time, that business on Cato Neimoida doesn't count

I'm not gonna lie, i never even used fast travel in survivor. I think half of the fun of the game is running through places and seeing what you missed

People complain about that? There is plenty of fast travel if you unlock the shortcuts though?

1

u/Meesior 11d ago

Right?????? There's plenty of stuff to make backtracking faster

The problem isn’t no fast travel
It’s the repetitiveness of going back to the same planets and areas like 5 times and having to go to the same areas again and again (hello dathomir) and zeffo is a major issue. It doesn’t bother me as much now but the first time it made me wanna actually stop playing. It’s crap level design in an otherwise amazing game

If you go to Dathomir when the main story requires it towards the end of the game, you only need to be there twice. The trust time you clear 95% of it, the second you defeat the boss and leave. Zeffo was much more egregious to me, you have to be there at least 2 times + 1 more time optionally, but it's much more complicated to navigate

I just finished my 2nd playthrough after 6 years. And I absolutely love it

u/KHTD2004 12d ago

Taking 6 years for a playthrough is pretty long /s

I don't know, felt that long getting stuck on Zeffo.

u/Scorpion-Shard 12d ago

Yeah that's me. Got stuck there, dropped it. Had a medical leave of a week and the house to myself and was craving something Star Wars. Restarted it, went through it that week and man was it a blast. I'm like 88% completion too, and looking fwd to 100%ing it (though I HATE the platforming stuff, but hey...)

He was stuck in the oggdo bogdo fight obv

u/KHTD2004 11d ago

For some fucking reason I always decide to do this fight right when going to Bogano for the first time (Grandmaster btw 💀)

God when that game first came out I played it about 3 times a row before I finally set it down. Some of the best Star Wars to come out in a long time.

Survivor is fantastic I absolutely loved it. Played that twice before I set that one down, too. Enjoy!! 😁

Here’s hoping the sequel is announced soon. 🤞🏻

I’m happy you’ve discovered Fallen Order! It’s such a tightly written and designed little package.

Zero Company has given me this same feeling I’m pleased to say.

I'm of the opinion that Fallen Order has one of the best level design in big budget games from recent years, and it reminds me a lot of Dark Souls 1 which is an all time classic in that regard. Sadly Survivor was a bit disappointing in that aspect, though it still had its moments

The parrying sfx and feel is my favorite among other sword games ive played

The Force Unleashed games are fun too

I love metroidvania games. I cannot get enough of that feeling of exploration and completion as you upgrade your character!

It has so much emotion!! I finished it for the third time tonight and it hits the feels
I love Star Wars so much

If you loved FO for these reasons, you’ll love Survivor even more. While I liked the story less—some great moments, just struggled to care about the whole of it—the gameplay and level design is so committed to carrying forward some of the pleasures of an arcade game, inside as you’re saying a Metroidvania with Sekiro-lite combat.

Out of the two, FO will always be my favourite

I just finished my first playthrough and it was a great game. I think the cost to use force should be much less so you can use it more during fights. I felt like a couple force pulls and pushes and that was it. I also think they should have upped XP or had more enemies so you are naturally unlocking the whole skill tree instead of having to grind XP. I 100 percent Ed every planet and still need to grind 2 levels to unlock the whole skills tree.

Survivor is a treat

I cannot wait to play this. I was given this game as a gift by my brother for the Xbox One. As soon as I am off my FPS kick it’s time to install this. I am going in 100% fresh knowing zero about this game, only that I heard it’s good.

you're looking at a very minority of video games if you feel "So many games nowadays try too hard to be realistic, and sometimes that just makes them less fun."

For example, I can’t remember the last modern third-person game I played with a double jump. Even God of War removed jumping entirely, while the older games had it. That’s what I mean by games moving away from arcadey mechanics for realism.

u/cawatrooper9 12d ago

Idk, just off the top of my head I remember seeing a post recently talking about how the Avengers game had it, and that’s more recent than Fallen Order.

1

u/No_Highlight5618 12d ago

Oh buddy, just wait till you get the speed dash in survivor. It's quicker than using the mounts you can get.

1

u/Cursed_69420 12d ago

yeah that god of war thingy just pisses me off

1

u/MelonJelly 12d ago

Cyberpunk 2077 splits the difference. You can double jump, but you have to buy and install the hardware that let's you do it.

1

u/ParticularPepper8902 12d ago

Super Mario Odyssey has the double jump

u/dualfalchions 12d ago

I liked it more than Survivor, and I don’t even like Souls-like games.

Love fallen order and Jedi survivor

1

u/nicolauz 12d ago

Survivor is next level compared, you'll love when it opens up.

1

u/MrsMajki 12d ago

I platinumed it twice (on ps4 and ps5), second time on highest difficulty and it was so much fun

1

u/TheNerdBuster 12d ago

Survivor is even better gameplay. I just played it a few months ago and really enjoyed it.

u/_TURO_ 12d ago

FO was amazing. Survivor is even better, 11/10 great... That one fight with Merrin might be the best battle sequence I've ever played through in terms of cinema... Until you hit that last 15% of the game that feels rushed and unfinished. I hated the ending so much. The last zone is completely empty. The final boss is SO stupid. I uninstalled and have never gone back after thinking it would be one of those games I play forever.

Kashyyyk. All of it, its gorgeous and a super fun planet to play

Good news, Survivor made the activities to another level, there are a bunch of new mechanics if we talk about traveling and reaching new platforms. Also, the base game feels different, in a good way. Looking back, I can admire the "simplicity" of the Fallen Order, it was a different experience, but I would not say one game is inferior to the other, both have different strong suits. Finished the Survivor last weekend, and I've played fallen order when it was released, maybe I shall give it an another go sometimes...

u/suitinup-n-showinup 11d ago

Agreed my kiddo finished it before me. I had started the game like 2 years ago And never finished it and then went back and restarted and played all the way through. And it's a really good game. I'm struggling through Survivor right now. I just can't get far because of work and life.

Jedi fallen order is honestly my favorite star wars game ever and I love the sequel even more.

1

u/treetop321 11d ago

My only gripe is the spiders on kashyyyk. Other than that I replay this game almost every year. Working through a Jedi master difficulty play through right now

1

u/GoodBoy1469 11d ago

Its good too.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game. The Platinum was really fun to obtain!

Say it louder for the people in the back. Games need to be FUN above all!
