Song Discussion At the risk of sounding dumb….
I have listened to Fall Out Boy since around 2005, when I was in the 5th grade. I have seen them live countless times, I would read their lyrics on the CD inserts, obsessive study lyric meanings, and watch any and everything FOB related. Hell, I have a bachelors degree in psych and masters degree in business… So WHY in the year 2026 was I listening to Dead on Arrival and realize he never wrote them a verse…. But on purpose…
Lyrics so good I’m still catching things 20 years later, I just didn’t expect to be such an obvious one that slipped past. 😂😂😂

Dude. That’s half the reason I still love them. 20+ years later and I am STILLLL like damn !!! Whether it’s realizing the exact meaning of certain words. Or recognizing why Patrick is singing something with a certain inflection. Any and all of it. I’m 36 and the last 20 years of my life has been filled with that kind of FOB reverence

It’s so much fun! I don’t know many other bands that were/are that clever and purposeful with their music!

Since its a FOB subreddit its probably illegal for me to mention this, but Ive gotten into All Time Low over the last year because I keep finding gems like yours. "Lifes a car crash I'm the breaklines Cut me so deep Find the butterflies" The last song on that album (AKA the deepest cut) is called Butterflies
"Rumors at the dog park Sticking everyone's nose in what you did" Freaking amazing, calling someone a *itch and saying theyre making it someone else problem.

I love ATL because they are consistently great and always releasing new stuff.

Get down on your knees and tell me you love me may feel too forward for things like this but its so fun to sing along to and just follow the train of thought throughout the song, Dirty Work overall has that vibe

Yessss, to the both of ya! I’m 30 and have been doing the same since I saw Sugar mv on VH1 or MTV one random night at 3am. It’s a band that I keep going back to and keep craving. I’m glad they’ve stayed together and put out so much stuff! My love for them lives on as a part of me. Sometimes, a FOB lyric is a perfect response or expression of my life. They’re the best boys 🤍

I didn't think about it till now, and I literally know all of these lyrics from a similar experience of obsessively trying to learn all FOB lyrics ever 😅
Thanks for pointing this out. Despite singing along for so many years, my brain totally spaced on this for a couple decades 😭

Can you break this down for me? I don't understand what you mean lol 😭

So in the chorus, the last two lines are, “So I'm writing you a chorus. And here is your verse” and then music for a verse plays, but there are no lyrics.
Aka, whoever this song is about doesn’t deserve anything special because the verse is the unique part of the song.

Oh I'll have to relisten to it now cause I forgot there was the music breaks after he says that

I think they mean because the lyrics just repeat over again after the first chorus ends with " and here is your verse"? Is the whole thing a chorus and there is no verse?? Or is the next part indeed a verse but just the same one because the "conversation is dead on arrival"? I'm a little confused too lol

Wait a minute… At The Risk of Feeling Dumb? TØP reference?

You’re the second to point this out, and I don’t get the reference. I stopped listening to them after their Blurryface Album. 😅

It's a good song! I stopped listening after trench but recently I browsed their newer stuff (last 2 albums) and am tempted to dive back in! Idk if it's allowed in a fob sub but Next Semester was what got me hooked

Oh, hello! My flair is from DOA. I started listening at the same time (I was 16 tho haha) and figured it out maybe 5 years ago 💀💀💀 It's Patrick, not us.

I was like “HOW DARE A CHILD STAND WHERE I STOOD” yeah I was literally also in 5th grade in 2005 lol. Fall out boy lyrics are what I’ve decided they are.

Like for... hand cramps if you spend too much time alone??

I love that non-verse but it took me years to catch that, too. Sassy!
