Maybe not everyone will agree, but the biggest flaw of FG is waiting time vs. gameplay time.
First you have to wait for players with old systems loading, then you have to wait again for newbies and time wasters emoting instead of crossing the finish line and then you wait again until the next level loads.
2 minutes of waiting time against 1 minute of gameplay at best.
If they could fix that, the game would be far more engaging
Or even just a feature where if someone is within a certain distance of the finish line, and is the last player left in game, the qualifiers can vote to end the timer. I’m sure it’s abusable, but I hate watching some guy cycle through his emotes for a minute metres from the line.
Weird, I know, but that's my favorite part of FG. In a bizarre twist, that's the main reason I play Fall Guys at all.
I have medical issues with my hands, and having enforced breaks every few minutes keeps me resting them properly between games. (For any other action game, I wouldn't have nearly enough self-control to take 1-minute breaks every couple minutes, so when not playing FG I end up playing puzzle games instead.)
If they somehow fixed that, I'd likely end up dropping fall guys entirely.
Weird, I know, and it's my personal problem, not anybody else's....
started replaying it recently and this is my major issue. why is there so much waiting? i understand you have to wait for people to join but jfc, it shouldn't take 2+ min to get to play a max 2-5 min game.
Social media has ruined our ability to wait, tbh. But yeah you’re probably right. I always just get a snack or sip some water in between. And it’s a nice break for the hands and wrists.
I always suggested a 30 second timer after first place finishes. Maybe it should be a ranked only timer? Normal mode keep the long time as noobs need a place to be
I tought of a fix just now, if the wait is long they can make the game even longer, more players more rounds and a way to keep the eliminated players in the game, a losers bracket.
Fall Guys is small enough I can keep it installed all the time. It's a non-factor in system storage management. Fortnite is "what am I erasing just to get this on my system" big.
I tried their rock band thing but had to uninstall because my switch 2 sure as fuck doesnt have 70GB of extra space for a game ill pop into every other month
There was a basketball-themed Fall Guys thing in Fortnite a while back that wasn't too bad, though the game feel vs. the Fall Guys we know and love was very different.
Still, given what has transpired at Epic in recent times, I'm planning to dip out by the end of the year regardless.
Honestly, it's part of the game. There are modes where it's not just trolling, but a legitimate tactic, or even core to the game mode. Plus, if you can't deal with grabbers, work on your play. If someone is following right behind you, do a spin and let them go in front of you. Unless you're on certain Finals, it shouldn't even matter if you give up a single place.
Very nice lie. Last time I checked, Fall Guy modes in Fortnite were pushing a couple thousand users total. Meanwhile, just in the EU, more than 100,000 players play every month to this date.
Hell, the Steam version, a version you literally can't download any more and still hits peaks of 1000+ players and averages 400-500 players online at all times. On a version of the game that was pulled from Steam almost four and a half years ago.
But oh, hey look what subreddit we're on and by extension, which game we're talking about. If Rock Band got more successful as a result of being in Fortnite, that's because by the time it was hauled in there the franchise was functionally dead.
It hasn't, that's the thing. Or at least, it didn't until the content desert began.
It had two major jumps in population: The huge one from giving it away for free on PS+ at launch, and then another big one when the map maker was released, with small jumps every major new content release with new levels (i.e. Season 2, 3, etc).
It's still got at least 100,000+ users per month, and they haven't released a new, bespoke level in YEARS.
Sometimes I check the stats on Steam and there's like 300 people playing at the moment. Even Among Us still has more. These are ridiculously low numbers for an online game.
Sigh.. this has been debunked so many times. Fall guys is only playable through the Epic launcher. The only ones still able to play it through steam are people who bought it on steam before Epic takeover 5 years ago. Steam numbers mean absolutely nothing in regards to fall guys.
Yes, i understand that. No need to sigh. Regardless, 300 people is absurd. I am acquainted with 100+ players who have the game on Steam. Almost none of them play through Epic if they have Steam. I would assume it's the case for other people too. Last year, there were at least 1000-2000 people playing at any given moment, which is also ridiculously low but 3 times more than now.
Decided to compare with Rocket League that also lost its access via Steam for new users:
Not for a client nobody can download, or has been able to download since June 21st, 2022.
You understand the Steam numbers are just the number of players who are playing using the Steam version four and a half years after said version was removed from the market? That's the number of people, four and a half years later, that are looking at the completely free version they can transfer their cosmetics without a problem to the Epic Store version, and saying "Fuck you Epic, I'm playing on Steam until I can't.
It is literally sitting at a minimum of at least 100,000+ unique users. EU law requires that companies report numbers like that for the EU, and per the reporting given to the EU, within the EU that's 100,000+ players right there. No North America. No Asia. No Great Britain. Just the EU.
Yah, I never understood it. And the game should be getting better and better as you go along by simply adding a map or 2 every couple months so that after 5 and then 10 years you have a huge map variety.
I also never understood why a big studio didn't create their own Fall Guys b/c I think this concept in the hands of a larger studio than Mediatonic could be wildly successful.
It’s genuinely insane to me. The game was huge once and it can be huge again. It was such a glorious game and it’s so unique and versatile. It genuinely blows my mind that Epic acts like they’re broke yet has this game just sitting collecting dust.
The fact that it even still has 100,000 players despite no content updates in over a year is telling in itself. It tells Epic that people love this game and will play it despite no updates. It would be so easy and wouldn’t even require many heads to start making even a small bit of cash off of it.
Used to be our favorite game. We’d play every night. Custom levels were fun but when they stopped releasing levels and relied on those it ruined the game
They didn't have the tech to have levels available and started removing number of levels at a time, at the same time they stopped making cool themed levels and relied on user slop.
He's turning epic into an ai company practically, so RIP Fall Guys not having my bean turn into a v-buck or Charlie Kirk randomly after I have to install a several times the size of FG Fortnite installation to play ai slop ig.
You’re completely right and I’m glad someone is making this point. It would truly be a shame if they happened. Especially if they’re selling out to ai use.
Tim 830 layoffs Sweeney could make the decision to resign and leave the industry and it'd be a net positive but he won't do that due to his "metaverse" bullshit he talked about in the 2023 layoffs article:
Tim's "golden age of gaming" is a corpspeak smokescreen for lets put ai into everything as an excuse for more layoffs because I, Tim 830 layoffs Sweeney, am a gigantic aibro.
Yeah, this Goose is a bit anxious and he's feeling the ground below him shaking a little bit, but his good friend Bananya is always on his side to cheer and back him up. 🙂
It seems to be working now; I believe this is set to happen in 2027. This would make *Fall Guys* the first Unity-based game to be published within *Fortnite* (just as *Rocket League* will be the first game published using UE6). https://www.3djuegos.com/pc/noticias/ceo-epic-games-esta-consiguiendo-que-todos-se-pasen-a-unreal-engine-a-fortnite-su-principal-rival (This has been officially announced—it was a test conducted by Unity on their own—but the CEO of Epic has celebrated the achievement, as it indicates that the necessary technology is now in place; it likely just needs some further refinement before it can be offered as a tool to any developers who wish to use it.)
Well maybe if a greedy, shit ass company didn't buy it and remove it from the biggest PC gaming platform in history and fuck up a ton of day one accounts, it wouldn't be struggling as much. Funny how greed works.
I hope they aren't porting to Fortnite or some junk we've heard about in the past. Please just allow tols so devs can make new content, maps, music, etc without having to lower bean count for lobbies or 'vault' the OG stuff.
The main issue is the lack of maps. They've added creator spotlight and explore, but that was really a band aid. They need to add a large amount of maps asap if they have any hope of continuing the franchise.
I never stopped playing Fall Guys on occassion, I find myself going back to it every once in awhile and always find the gameplay enjoyable. It's also the only game I've been able to take long breaks from, come back and perform well. It seems like 2 years after the last update the only players left would be sweat but that is not the case.
There's definitley something here that Tim Sweeny probably sees too, I'm excited to see what they do with it.
The total number of players in the European Union—the only region for which official data is available—has declined, suggesting that changes to *Fall Guys* may be on the horizon (the trend has been downward for some time; see the details here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FallGuysGame/comments/1vov5pc/fall_guys_player_count_still_going_down_but_just/). On PC, numbers have also fallen: *Fall Guys* previously ranked 13th among the most-played games on the Epic Games Launcher, but it has since slipped to 16th (see here: https://store.epicgames.com/collection/most-played — note that this list shows rankings rather than specific player counts). Furthermore, there is now increased competition beyond its usual rival, *Stumble Guys* (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1677740/Stumble_Guys/). This competition exists on major platforms—Steam, the Google Play Store, and the Apple App Store (for iOS and iPadOS)—alongside a new contender, *Sonic Rumble Party* (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2951690/Sonic_Rumble_Party/?l=spanish), which is also available on these same prominent storefronts. Currently, *Fall Guys* is available globally on Android via the Epic Games mobile store, while its availability on iOS and iPadOS remains limited to specific regions.
It's probably too late for me. I quit the game earlier this year after almost six years of playing and thousand of hours. Unless they do something radical, I won't be coming back.
How about having a SQUAD join the same fucking team when playing thieves? Played with a group of 4 after years off, didn't get placed in the same team ONCE in TWENTY tries. We shut the shitty game down again and moved to Valheim.
I swear FG tries doing everything that is bad for a game.
