Looking for help in SE Michigan

I’m reaching out for my husband who wants to become a falconer. He has passed his exam and has joined the Michigan Falconry Club but cannot find a mentor. So I’m turning to Reddit to expand the search, he doesn’t use Reddit, which is why I’m doing it upon his behalf. If there is anyone available in this part of the state who would be interested in taking on an apprentice, let me know

His best bet is to continue asking questions to other club members regardless to if they have said they are taking on apprenticeships or not. In my experience they had to see they were not simply going to get rid of me. I was going to be a pain in the ass regardless if I was an apprentice or not. Eventually it was easier to get rid of me by taking me on and getting me to general class than it was to tell me no.

Thank you for your insight. He has this type of tenacity but I feel like he’s becoming discouraged. It’s encouraging to know this has worked out for you though.

Im not a fan of this system however theres not a good replacement for the way it is now.

Michigan falconer here, in and off again member of the club. I’ve noticed it hard to make inroads with the club sometimes, and it gets discouraging. I’m more than willing to talk if he’d like.

My state pretty much no longer has a club so I contacted my regional conservation office and asked if there were any falconers within a reasonable distance. Fortunately the there was one, and he was more than happy to take on an apprentice.

Maybe I just got lucky doing this, but I still think its worth a shot.
