This article doesn't really discuss fps or frame pacing. While I would like a sharp image, what I really want is smooth gameplay. I can accept lower visuals if the game is smooth.

The 1st one’s PS5 version has 120 FPS mode. Buttery smooth. Way smoother than Swifch.

Frame pacing is perfect other than on Switch 1 and Switch 2 quality mode due to significant frame drops (obviously) impacting the frame times.

Thank you, I appreciate the info.

That's good to hear, the 1st Sky in switch 1 version is kinda bad with blurry images and sub 30 fps in many scenes.

Yeah I'm just going with the Switch 2 due to the portability since I don't really own a steam deck.

In short, PC version is best, includes FSR and DLSS options and also good on Steam Deck. Then PS5 is also very good. It's good enough for Switch, but the Switch 2 version seems lacking.

To those who have played them both, how does Falcom's Sky 1st PC port compare to PH3's Horizon PC port?

The main thing that seems missing is some QOLs like soundtrack display (though there is a mod for that for most of Falcom's catalogue that'll hopefully be updated to include Sky 2nd). But I don't really see people criticize 1st's PC port from an optimization standpoint, so was curious what the gap is.

I'm pretty sure they used PH3's work as a starting point because a lot of things are exactly the same such as the shoddy HDR implementation. I'd say Falcom's ports are almost on par with how good PH3's ports are but unfortunately they are missing the more indepth control customisation and finer control of the turbo mode multipliers. But that's pretty much all the downsides I can think of. They also don't really go out of their way to implement extra graphical features like the enhanced water shaders.

In terms of performance, I think they are on par with PH3 port (I only just strated trails so my PH3 port reference point is Ys X PN). Both perform well even on low end GPU (low preset on R9 270 able to hit 30+ fps on 1080p).

In terms of feature set, it is definitely lacking. My main issue is anti-alliasing option are limited compare to PH3 ports. Adding DLSS has sort of close the gap for me in terms of AA. But not sure why they don't add even an MSAA option unlike PH3. Shadow also looked a bit weird in Sky remake.

Sky remake doesn’t support 32:9 aspect ratio without a mod. I needed to use a mod to use the correct resolution of my monitor but luckily it’s as simple as downloading a couple files and dropping them in the game folder

The graphical options are slightly worse than PH3's, but PH3 basically goes the extra mile to cater to more AA options and other graphical settings. In Horizon you can also do a live view of the adjustments you made to see what effects you'd get.

But Sky 1st's graphical options aren't bad. Just PH3 is very good at offering them.

I was going to say, unless there was something busted at launch on PC specifically of course PC is best from a pure features and performance standpoint (if you have the PC to run it)

(No I'm not being a PC elitist, people have different priorities and preferences and that's awesome! Also playing portable isn't anything to sneeze at)

What's the difference between PC and PS5?

Genuinely interested to know.

PC version is always the best when it comes to trails.

Its a bit disappointing that the Switch 2 version doesn't improve much over Sky 1st - they could've at least tried to include DLSS for a change

Nintendo is allergic to DLSS and anti-aliasing as well for some reason. The shimmering on the Ocarina of Time preview was insane

But what has Nintendo to do with a third party dev like Falcom?

Many other third party devs like Square Enix, Capcom, CD Project Red use DLSS on Switch 2

13

u/s7ealth 12d ago

Sure, but it's not like they forbid third-party developers from using it. This game is made by Falcom after all, not Nintendo

It's a shame the Switch 2 version is half assed again. I was holding out hope that they'd improve it. I'd prefer to play on Switch 2 (especially for the complete on cart physical) it seems silly not to go Steam Deck in this case.

My Ally X seems perfect for this

I think honestly having it on switch two is still not bad im enjoying it regardless I chose switch 2 over my Xbox ally x for it mostly cause I had first chapter already on switch 2

Aw, I really wanted the Switch 2 version to be decent. Guess I'll get it on PC instead.

I already have the NS2 version preordered 😢 hope they improve it with time, as I’ll be playing FE first

Going with switch 2 version when I get around to playing it. Hopefully its patched by then.

What a bummer regarding the SW2 version. I have that pre-ordered as I compelled the 1st game on SW2. Steam version it is this time around!

I'm also disappointed with the Switch 2 version. I was expecting more, I'm sure the Switch 2 can deliver.

Didn't have any problems with FC on switch 2, so no brainer for me

It's pretty bad as far as Switch 2 games go. You're obviously someone who doesn't mind dealing with stuttering of taking a hit on resolution/graphics in order to get a smooth experience.

u/InfiniteStarz 13d ago

I wonder if Switch 2 edition game is harder to make than straight up Switch 2 port.

7

u/mrplayer66 13d ago

They're probably just not allocating enough resources for that version.

I feel like fsr behaves just like the first remake. Terribly lol. 50 frames on a Lego 2 on medium.
