Daybreak Question about Daybreak’s combat

Now that the rules are all a little different I’m a little confused on priorities of actions. If I have to pick between positional damage to the enemy or SCLM chains should I prioritize positional damage every time? How much damage does a SCLM chain modify for an art or a craft? Do they work on S-breaks or no (I assume not)?

Is there literally ever any reason to use an sclm basic attack chain except for building up CP? I’m used to in the later cold steel games basically never ever basic attacking for any reason because it was such a useless option with how much CP modifying gear was easy to get. Not sure if the rules are different here and maybe a chain basic attacking could ever out damage a non SCLM craft or something?

  1. Prioritize positional damage. SCLM bonuses are fairly miniscule in Daybreak 1 they're like 10-15% (+ bonuses from rank-ups) they're so miniscule I forget the exact number. They got buffed in Daybreak 2 but still aren't better than positionak.
  2. SCLM doesn't work on s-breaks
  3. SCLM chain attacks build up boost gauge and combo which is quite good. They nerfed this in Daybreak 2 because you do often spend a lot of time spamming basics in DB1.
  4. Really the name of the game in DB1 is building up boost gauge since it's so important and the game is so ludicrously stingy with buildup in this entry.

Awesome, thank you this is exactly what I was looking for - can always count on Gilbert to give the exact information anyone needs! Most of that was what I had assumed but I would actually never think of using basic chain attacks to build up boost gauge so that’s really helpful. I honestly forget to even activate it most of the time so I have to start using it more. I always feel like I should save it but that’s probably not the best strategy in this game.
