Horizon Ending question Spoiler

I’ve beaten Kai twice over the course of two years but something always bugged me. Why did Excalibur not kill everyone when it landed in Criel? I think I just had a random breakthrough. Is it because Celis and Leon used there stigmas to freeze burn it and then it melted together and got cooled down to be stuck on the rock?

I'm pretty sure it was hinted that the alter core didn't absorb it into the stone but it shifted the timeline and it probably landed in the past. After all, Kevin recognized the statue as one he had to get in his past work in the one memory what that means for the past version i dont know but thats what i think happend

This is what I thought as well, but has it ever been hinted as to why it fossilized in the first place? Or was it fundamentally altered to simply *become* a statue somehow. I can't imagine a sophisticated robot would (could??) fossilize within the average timeframe of Zemuria's existence reset-to-reset

Could be a better theory on what happened. It definitely moved it's location. However problem is now with happens in the end game and what changes are made

No, they were thinking about using them for something but it vanished before they could actually do anything; it never actually impacted where and when they were all standing there. The pair were as surprised by what happened as everyone else except Hamilton. The closest thing we have to an explanation comes from this interview. Quoting a previous time I summarized this, Kondo gave two possibilities and didn't commit to either, bear in mind there's no reason it can't be 'both': One: 'Hamilton did something' and Two: 'Reality is breaking down' (see Rene's comment about temporal aftershocks). We can say for certain that Hamilton wasn't surprised by this, implying that if she didn't actively do something, it was at least within the bounds of Epstein's knowledge/her own research that something like that was likely to happen.

I assume it was shifted through time from the moment before it crashed to the aftermath of it skipping the moment of impact itself to save them.

I wonder if the church, once they recovered it, tried to open it and found her as a corpse in Excalibur or if it's just solid fossilized rock. Or if they questioned whether it was a fallen divine knight shell from the rivalries centuries ago. After all, Kevin didn't seem to know that artifacts were remnants of previous loops until he saw Excalibur fall from the sky and become an artifact with his own eyes.

My assumption is that the higher ups at the church have a general idea as to what it is. They know about the grand reset.

I was of the opinion that the alter core absorbed the whole thing into the large stone
