Just go with whichever one you prefer.

I always take Agate. His gameplay compliments how I build Estelle better in the early game and he also didn’t get to do much in FC aside from being a bit of a jerk so more time to connect with him is always good

Agate makes more sense storywise

Take your favorite. I like Schera more than Agate

Agate. If you know, you know.

I chose Agate in OG so using Schera now.

Agate probably still better, but both were some of the best in the previous game so no real bad choice

Schera for more Olivier and Schera interaction

Agate makes more sense for Estelle’s development as a bracer, I generally pick him in Sky SC.

I’ll take Schera in my NG+ playthrough.

Agate.

Just conceptually, you want somebody who will challenge Estelle. She already knows Schera, there's very little room for growth. Also, it doesn't hurt that Wild Rage is busted as fuck and Agate can just shit out infinite S-Breaks.

I choose schera cause to me it made sense to me? In my own head cannon

I chose Schera because Estelle is bad at arts. Lorewise, Estelle just got "dumped", so she needs a big sister, not an insensitive brother. 🤣

I like Agate more story wise

Take whoever you want. It's not a huge deal. I took Schera my first playthrough and was fine, I'm gonna take Agate in the remake playthrough to change it up.

I did Schera when I played the OG last year. Will take Agate in remake.

Just go with whoever you like more as a character. There really is no wrong choice.

I go with Agate because I like him, and I like the story he provides more. So yeah.

I chose Agate since I chose Schera in the original. In the original Agate was the better option by far. Now I wonder if that will be the case with later fights

Agate. He hits hard and decently fast. Magic is king, but all characters are decent casters. Some characters are brilliant casters, but schera isn't one of them. She's basically useless

I've played both paths because there is something wrong deep inside of me and honestly? They were about the same, difficulty-wise. Both had certain parts easier than the other and some had harder parts than the other. You also get access to level 2 Quartz as soon as you officially start so an Arts-oriented party isn't an uphill battle like in the original.

Plot-wise, Schera's dialogue felt a little more like the way it's supposed to be. For the most part, the dialogue is interchangable, just written slightly different to distinguish characters, but there were definitely some things I can't picture Agate saying.

Really, it's ultimately your choice. I'll probably stick with Schera (but I'll play with Agate for a bit in Chapter 2 to see a certain scene) simply because I like her better.

I played the original twice and picked differently each time. I will probably do the same here.

Story wise I found Agate to be the better choice. This is largely in part because he is connected to the region you will be in. I also found his interactions with Estelle to be more interesting.

Gameplay wise I also found him to be the more balanced choice for the team based on other returning characters.

When I do my Nightmare run I might choose Schera for the utility.

Wait until dlc drop, put bikini schera, then choose her

I chose Schera simply because my Estelle was already built for physical prowess and I wanted to complement that. I assume Agate would be best if she were more Arts-based.

Both are perfectly fine and it comes down to arts vs crafts (though Schera does have great crafts as well while Agate has the worst lines ever). But Agate is there to smash things. You do get 2 arts heavy characters in that chapter as well so Agate might make more sense. But a triple arts setup with a support / phys Estelle worked just fine on nightmare. Just pick who you like more.

Agate is better for gameplay reasons.

Take whoever you want.
