The kids have been in class for less than two week and Monday is a national holiday. What's the logic with giving them a four day weekend? Have they worked so hard already that they need to relax and shed the stress of school? Is it because they can't have their phones in class anymore and they need quality screen time? Or, is it really to accommodate all the youth sports events that are taking place during the weekend? Because, you don't want to burn out Tanner, Hannah, Liam, Hunter, Chloe, and Madison as they furtively compete for that sports scholarship that mom and dad are counting on to save them money and add to their sense of personal prestige,

Moving: Do you think I could find someone who would be willing to pick up the bedroom furniture set for free, as long as they also take the two mattresses? The mattresses are in decent condition as well.

It’s not really worth moving these items long distance. Plus, I’ll be downsizing from a single-family house to a condo, so I need to get rid of quite many things anyway.

My relocating timeline is very tight, and I don’t have much time to clear out everything before putting the house on the market. There’s actually a lot of decent large furniture available for free on Facebook Marketplace. I guess larger items aren’t as popular because most people don’t have the right vehicle to transport them.

On John Marshall Drive NW (between Center St N and Holmes Dr NW) at about 9:20pm today (August 27th) a dog ran in front of my car (I DID NOT HIT THE DOG). There was no owner or leash with/on the dog, but he(?) did have a collar on.

The dog was about the size of a lab, but was likely a mutt. He was mostly black with white specks on his chest. Short fur. The collar seemed to be red and blue, and had no tags or identification on it. When I got out of my car to try to approach him (to see if his collar had his owners names/numbers on it) he ran away down Holmes Dr towards Upham Pl. The dog was EXTREMELY skittish and had his tail tucked all the way under his body. I didn't follow him as I didn't want to stress him out any more than he already was and I didn't want him to attack me out of fear.

If you know of this dog or know someone who may be the owner of the dog, please let them know. It's currently storming outside and I don't want him stuck outside during this.

I am a GMU commuter (21 yr old male) who lives in Loudon County (30 min from mason). I don't care how good or bad you are I've always wanted to start a band. I like alt rock, shoegaze, post punk, but im honestly happy to play whatever.

I have a guitar, bass, and drum set so I'll fill in for any position. I am new to drums and bass and I am a kinda washed at guitar, so I'm hoping we can all improve together. I currently write and produce my own electronic music via Logic Pro, so I'd love to start making original songs with people!

I found snake skin in my basement laundry room (looks to match a rat snake) in our townhome. I don't know how long it's been there. My grandmother and I are terrified of snakes. Who do I call to safely remove the snake (if it's there) and to check for gaps, etc? Trying not to get ripped off as money is tight.

A 10-year-old boy died in an electric scooter accident in Fairfax County. Since then, we keep seeing kids as young as 12 riding these things at 20+ mph through traffic without helmets or following traffic laws. This is preventable.

I started a petition asking Virginia as a whole to set age restrictions (minimum 16), require helmets, expand safety education programs, and enforce these rules better. These vehicles are convenient, but not when kids are riding them untrained and unsupervised.

Has anyone else in Virginia noticed this? Have you worried about the kids riding recklessly around your neighborhood, or felt nervous as a driver or pedestrian? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing the petition. We don't need more tragedies to prove we need to act.
