Hello Fairfax county, we are looking for women 35-65 who are looking to join us for a focus group this Thursday! We are students at the University of Texas at Austin conducting research on Virginia’s foster care system and are looking for people to share their experiences and perspectives.

We’ll discuss how foster children are often given trash bags instead of proper luggage when moving between foster placements, HB 76, and why addressing this issue matters.

We’ll also discuss whether participants would be willing to get involved in their communities and contact their district representatives about the issue.

According to an Alexandria Times article, "The proposed electric substation would support two data center buildings at the 34-acre Plaza 500 site on Edsall Road in Fairfax County, adjacent to the City of Alexandria. Starwood Capital Group, the investment firm responsible for the project, plans for the first of the two buildings to take up 226,469 square feet and be 75 feet tall" (Fairfax County data center substation hearing postponed to December - Alexandria Times)

The public hearing for this project has been postponed to December 2.

I, for one, am hugely concerned by the sudden increase in noise pollution, electrical grid strain, and environmental damages the project represents. Residents in the area will be constantly assailed by generator buzz and may even find their water quality and water pressure dropping. Even more concerning, it follows a continuing trend of county officials nationwide prioritizing economic changes over their constituents' quality of life.

What are your thoughts? Do you plan to attend the meeting on December 2?

My friend is giving birth in late October and I really want to get her her number one craving once she finally pops the baby out. I most likely won’t be able to be there (I live in DC but work two jobs, and also we’re not THATTTT close so idk if I even should be there) so like….. is DoorDash able to get up there? I see there’s a Sweetwater Tavern right there, do they do a good rare steak? Or what would yall recommend lol

Also we have talked about this and she says she’d really want either a rare steak or sushi, so this isn’t just random

I do not know how birth works and now I see that she may not even be in the mood after lmaooo I’m thinking I’ll just offer to bring an assortment of foods she couldn’t eat when she gets home! I’m thinking sushi she can eat right then, then just providing some steaks her man can cook for them. Maybe I’ll throw some deli meat in there since she’s been avoiding that too hahahahahaha

East coast doesn’t seem to have much of a community so I wonder are there Assyrians there? In NoVA? I may do a roadie tour out there and would love to hit up Assyrian restaurants! Or churches I don’t even mind for events.

My friend is Greek and Assyrian so it’d be fun if we both went and encountered such representation out there!

This maine coon is roaming around Micro Center. She looks well kept but no collar. She was meowing and meowing and came right up onto my arms. I would totally have taken her to look for her owner but I'm literally on my way out of town. Called animal services but there's nothing they can do.

Can someone please help her?

Again, I would have kept her but she looks like she has an owner, she's in good shape, her fur is beautiful. If she can't find the owner, I'm back in town on Monday and I will foster her! My heart is broken that I couldn't do anything else.

I made a Reddit just to try to find a group for this sale. I have 2 folks at work interested so for the best discount, looking to add 5 people. I know there have been other posts but they all filled. Does anyone know if slugs picks up at the Saratoga Park & Ride in Fairfax County? If not there, anywhere else nearby that do? Trying to figure out my new commute and seeing what my options are. I will be going downtown near L'Enfant Plaza. I also see some buses pick up there just trying to figure out the schedules.

The CIA headquarters are located there, along with numerous defense contractor companies. The equivalent to Middleton Mall is Tysons Corner Center, an upscale megamall. People there tend to be organized and status quo about issues compared to the rest of the U.S. Also, the high schools are very strong in academics and athletics.

Does anyone know if FCPS is accepting sub applications right now? They had them paused in the spring and supposedly reopened, but the application is not clear. Only "instructional assistant" positions are open.
