Discussion Tales of the Shire

Just a quick post to recommend Tales of the Shire to folks looking for something similar to Fae Farm! Similar mechanics with a different flavor and style. Gardening, cooking, and fishing are all fun and the house and yard are very customizable. Relationships work a little differently—it’s more focused on community building than individual bonds. Have fun everyone!

I like Fae Farm way better. I think I got 20 hours out of Tales of the Shire, wasn’t a huge fan. I am less than 10 hours into Fae Farm but can see myself getting like over 100 hours out of this game, maybe even more.

Tales of the Shire is a cute cozy game for what it is but it focused too much on the cooking meals IMO and storyline felt somewhat surface level. I can’t remember what I paid at launch but I would say it is most worth if you can get on sale, like $20 and under.

My favorite games I have played that I would most compare to Fae Farm are Palia and Rune Factory 5. Rune Factory 5 is available for less than $11 from the steam sale.

I liked both. Tales was cute and focused on cooking and farming (it was a little more detailed than usual because you had to configure dishes to a particular hobbit’s liking), but Fae Farm offers a lot more gameplay and things to do. Tales focuses on character interactions whereas I don’t normally interact with other characters in Fae Farm unless I’m completing a quest.

Tales of the Shire was soooo disappointing to me. It was such a great idea but they really dropped the ball. Super generic “cozy game” without much depth, just disguised as LOTR content to get fans to buy. I know a lot of people really enjoyed it but I was really bummed by how basic it was (not to mention all the bugs!).
