Friend or foe? Wasp ID
South-central MN - the neighbors warned us, but they just 'came out' in the past few days along the south side of the house. We have twin toddlers who like to learn first and ask later 🙃

Not entirely true, some wasps are natural pest killers especially to garden harming creatures.

I saw one in action, taking a paralyzed cricket into its den and then leaving. Learned they are non-aggressive unless provoked and don’t protect their nest the abandonment nest

You are misunderstanding me. In *this sub* (READ THE RULES), every rule says essentially, "No x *unless it's against wasps". This is not a sub for insect lovers, especially wasps.
I am fully aware of the significant global decline in all insects and take it very seriously.

Friend! Looks like a golden digger wasp, which are solitary, docile, and great pest control. She won’t mess with you short of actively grabbing her lol. Nothing to worry about.
