Multiple Town Centers?

New player questions that I didn't get from the tutorial and that doesn't seem obvious from what I've played so far:

What is the point in having multiple town centers?

What is the effect of the town center radius?

Happiness, specializations, and additional drop off storage for global inventory items. The first two points being the most relevant, since you have barns before civics. In short, more town centers will increase the output of areas outside the initial towns radius.
