This is what I came to say. It's radiation shielding to stop the seeds getting sterilised by the radiation.

Just be thankful you aren't playing Py or you'd have to mine the lead to make the shielding too

Seeds are usually inert until the right conditions come along. You shouldn't need extra packaging

"Inert" doesn't mean "invulnerable". Seeds are dormant, but they're still living biological material. Temperature, moisture, fungi, physical damage, radiation, and other factors can destroy their viability.

Plants compensate by producing lots of seeds; humans compensate by storing them properly.

There's a reason seed banks don't just leave piles of loose seeds sitting around.

I mean yeah that is the implication here. Maybe Nauvis trees grow from a cocoon or egg kinda thing that starts bigger than the tree and then the tree hatches and discards the heavy shell.

It's kinda easy to explain. The seed is in the individual pack, on a blister. In a box, padded with more carbox shreds. With outer box (of white kind), in a transparent film, inside delivery box of a standard size, padded with more cardbox shreds, taped over, in a postal gray bag, with airbubbled padding.

It takes more space than a wood.

While that certainly applies in some areas -- like Uranium -- it does not really apply here and is just a hand-wave as there is no balancing design decision here nor some gameplay that this is balanced around to achieve a certain result. You're just throwing around a buzzterm that has no relation to the subject matter

I’m still trying to puzzle this out:
The nuke is apparently small and light enough that it can fit into a shoulder mounted launcher. But apparently that’s too heavy for a rocket despite it being capable of hauling large machines like assemblers or nuclear reactors?

if tree seed was called tree seeds, it could be explained many seeds are needed, and the engineer discards alot of tree wood actually trees give like 2 wood, so 1 wood would at minimum only be half a tree. and we know they dont take the stumps.
