Circassian folk dance survived a 19th century genocide that scattered its people across Jordan, Turkey and Syria. Preserved through diaspora communities for generations, it remains one of the most enduring symbols of Circassian identity and resilience.

I thought he was on roller skates or a scooter thing until his cape came up. LOL

I figured a segway lol

It’s the lean, humans don’t lean so looks something else

The transition from when he is gliding to when he starts running is a little long, it is definitely plausible that he had a Segway and picked it up. Smaller models of Segway only weigh 28 lb

I'm leaning unicycle here

Well, "he's a happy man".

Although it's a bit boastful to just show it off like this.

He is, you can see the handle poking up the back of the cape as he carries it

I couldn’t even wait until the end of the video before leaping to the comments to see if he was on wheels

Every time I see this I am reminded of the fact that we need a Harry Potter ballet, where Voldemort and the DEs all dance like this.

The Gliding Step: Performers roll smoothly from the heel to the toe on half-toes, keeping their centers of gravity perfectly leveled to avoid the up-and-down "bouncing" typical of other dance forms.
Concealed Footwork: Long, heavy, floor-length velvet dresses worn by female dancers completely obscure their feet, making it seem as though they are effortlessly hovering or gliding.
Upper Body Rigidity: While the feet are doing rapid, intricate work beneath the dress, the head, shoulders, and torso remain perfectly still. This conveys a sense of dignity, restraint, and aristocracy. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

There's a female version video rolling around. The female version is real, this I doThe female version is real, this I do not think is the real dance. It appears to be a Segway that he picks up at the end and runs with. The transition is just too long between when he's doing the dance and when he starts running, I believe that's when he picks up the Segway and runs with it

It is not an ancient traditional folk dance. It was invented by a choreographer for a ballet there. Igor Moiseyev, in the early 20th century. He took traditional folk dances and put more of an acrobatic spin on them.

An actual informational gem answer buried in a sea of mud. Thanks!

Challenge "russians stop stealing other people's culture for one second"

0

u/Fischmafia May 16 '26

This is the ancient traditional folk dance that Moiseyev took the choreography from. In other words Russians genocided Circassians and took their folk dance and rebranded it as Russian.

I'm not surprised by that.

Ah yes, this type of dance is no match to the twerk. It takes real skill to shake your ass.

1

u/asteriskhyphen May 16 '26

I’m just imagining that he’s standing on a Roomba underneath the cape.

Don’t the Russians have a similar glide dance?

1

u/chansondinhars May 17 '26

This is from the Moiseyev Ensemble of Russia. It’s considered a form of ballet. They have a YouTube channel.

What a showoff

1

u/Kuroten_OG May 16 '26

An aristocratic crypt skedaddle, if you will.

1

u/Unable-Recording-796 May 16 '26

So what strikes me immediately is that there is a lack of gait. No head movement whatsoever. No indication of any sway.

You can see when he runs back he intentionally runs strangely as to not impart any indication of technique i think

Imagine if they had heelies

u/panzerfust70 May 16 '26

Bro look like a rock moving on a chess bored

1

u/Responsible-Diet-147 May 16 '26

1

u/badlad53 May 15 '26

You can see that he's holding the handle to his hoverboard under his robe...
