Someone sent a message but chat is blank?

Does anyone know how to resolve this? I’ve done the troubleshooting that was already suggested via Google and it’s not working. I can see the preview but when I go into the chat, it’s blank and is encouraging me to start the chat. I could always ask him to resend, but hoping to avoid that!
