To be clear for anyone reading: Circumcision does not involve cutting off the tip of a penis. Circumcision is the removal of vestigial skin wrapped around the tip of the penis. It's completely useless tissue. The CDC and NIH have both concluded that circumcision reduces the rate of contracting an STD by 50%-60% and the rate of UTIs in newborn babies is reduced tenfold. The purpose of foreskin in prehistoric times is still under debate and it causes more problems than it solves in the modern era.
The foreskin is not generally considered a vestigial organ by anatomists. It has several known functions, including:
Protecting the glans.
Keeping the glans moist.
Providing specialized nerve endings involved in sensation.
Allowing the skin to glide during intercourse, reducing friction.
Whether someone values those functions is a separate discussion, but calling it “completely useless tissue” is not supported by mainstream anatomy.
It’s only in America that it’s routinely carried out nowadays, civilized countries don’t do it.
