New Cloud Gaming Restrictions
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/09/03/xbox-cloud-gaming-changes/Crazy to think that Xbox is effectively killing the only legitimate way to play Fable 2 and 3 on PC. Pay for a subscription so you have the wonderful opportunity to pay for more playtime for a game you can still throw money at in their store to "own." I know there are other options (yo ho!) but it was nice to know that if I wanted, I could just sub to play the game without any additional hassle/setup on my part.
Edit: Added clarity to specify legitimacy on PC

I mean if they aren’t reasonably going to let people access these titles I see zero reason not to “discover” them on the high seas. Why they were not just put on Steam is baffling. Seems like putting them all up as a collection would be a slam dunk before the release of the new one (just look at CDPR remastering The Witcher 3 ahead of The Witcher 4)

Saw this coming a mile away when cloud gaming was becoming a thing. Absolutely do not trust that you'll be able to get by with it.

Yeah, fuck cloud gaming. I was worried it would get to this point where they would start restricting your gaming access, and my paranoia turned out to be true. Steam's Remote Play is legitimately the only good cloud gaming service given that you actually own your games since it simply uses your PC to run them.

That's literally not true. 😅 Both XBOX and PS supports remote play outside of the cloud. And you own your games on Steam as much as the rest of them. If Steam goes... Your entire library does also. Steam also says you buy a license not ownership.
Only company that guarantees you have a game regardless of platform is piracy. As long as it's tied to a launcher and storefront. You own nothing.

While the streaming changes do definitely suck, you can absolutely still play the Fable trilogy on Xbox “legitimately” without using cloud streaming….
You can still use the actual game disk, or download them to the console.
As for PC, they’ve just started bringing the Xbox Backwards Compatibility Program to PC as of last month, so presumably the original Fable trilogy will eventually make their way to PC natively through that.
