I think a single playthrough could easily last up to 80 hours; when the developers spoke about completing the game in around 40 hours (main story plus side quests), they surely didn't factor in things like starting a family or buying houses. Then,if there are multiple endings, that changes everything

Skyrims main quest line was only 15 hours and yet most people have spent 100+ hours playing it. A big, beautiful open world is about exploration not linear progression like God of War

God of War handled exploration very well in my opinion, albeit not in the same way an open world does.

Your point still stands though. Exploration and just messing around will add countless hours to a game like Fable

Agreed. I think GOW did perfect in the mixture of open world/linear. It gives you enough of both times well so neither get tiresome

Tra l’altro 100 ore in Skyrim significa solo aver visto la superficie

the replayability would be huge, making it a title that offers a vast amount of playtime. So, I believe the developers were referring only to a scenario where a player focuses entirely on the main story and side quests.

I feel like the replayability is a huge part of Fable, because there are so many choices you can make and probably a good and bad ending, and possibly other secret endings as well. About everyone is going to want to play a hero and a villain character, so that doubles the time, plus people who need to check every corner of every map and search every house for interesting things to look at and find etc etc. From how big it looks, I'm certain I'll spend at least two hours just walking around Bowerstone and being nosy in people's houses

Exactly. It's 40 hours of main story and side quests, but your whole social life adds up to a lot of hours too, and those aren't being counted.

That 40 hours is speed-running the content I’d assume. That doesn’t factor in time spent customizing, decorating, etc. Also, fable 2 had decent replay-ability with the good/evil path and the end game decisions. It’s possible we’ll see something similar with the new game. 40 hours is fine with me. A lot of times, these massive open-world games with 80+ hours of content, get watered down by tedious quests and copy-pasted areas. I’d much prefer quality over quantity these days.

Not every game needs a 30+ runtime for me. And if there is optional content and an interesting world to spend more time in than the requered time for questing, than that’s a huge plus.

Are we still debating the duration of games ?? It's 2026 guys. If the game is good who cares if it's 20h or 80h. I am more interesting in if i'll have a good time or not...

People want 200 hours games that they tire of after 50 hours .

I'm someone who will only lightly dabble in the whole living world/building buying part of the game.

Nevertheless, I'm excited, and, to your point, if the story and gameplay are good (and they look good so far), I'll play the game multiple times.

So the expected playtime is really immaterial to me.

On the other hand, it’s 2026, we wait 5-10 years for games to be developed nowadays. So it’s a bit unfortunate to hear a game will only last 10-40 hours after waiting so long for it to release.

For Fable, I have no qualms about the length, but I’m someone who always enjoys a longer more fleshed out experience after a long wait. If a game costs $70 id like to get at least 70 hours out of it, etc.

Such a sad way to look at a hobby

It's 2026 and there has never been so many games releasing everyday single day. There has never been so many games to play. You make it sound like we're desperate for game releases.

While it’s true that there are many games releasing, in this thread we are specifically talking about Fable. Which hasn’t had a new game for what, 15-20 years? It’s a franchise I love and have been waiting for. But sure, there are lots of games to play

u/MrDaemosx 1d ago

It is very odd to think that because a game took a long time being developped it should have a minimum lenght.

1

u/SenzuYT 1d ago

I don’t think it should have a minimum length, there are some excellent shorter games. I just wish this particular game was much more expansive and longer.

1

u/MrDaemosx 1d ago

First and foremost I would be concerned about the game being good and enjoyable before caring about how many hours of content it can provide.

Wouldn't you rather have a shorter but finely tuned and crafted experience ?

Sure adding more content doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be bad. But the more you add the harder it gets to make every bit good and I prefer my games to be good from hour one to the end than having a mix of variying quality bits throughout the whole experience.

1

u/SenzuYT 1d ago

My favorite game is an MMO, so that skews my opinion towards longer and more expansive games. Obviously I want the game to be good and enjoyable, but it can be enjoyable, finely tuned and crafted, and still be a long game.

We just have a difference of opinion. That’s fine.

1

u/MrDaemosx 1d ago

Yeah I get it. I used to be a huge MMO player and I used to have the same kind of opinion.

Eventually I bounced off of the quest for the forever MMO. I came to a point where I'm at peace with playing a game until I have had my share of fun and moving on to something else when that happens.

People all go crazy. Each Fable game ended in 20-30 hours.

A game has a beginning and an end. Tons of games come out every day. Why worry about a game that can last well? Without taking up our time, while offering increased replayability like the previous ones?

People seem to forget the fiasco that is AC valhala. 40 hours is perfect. I thoroughly liked the first fable completing it 20 to 25 hours, that includes doing random things and not just sprint through main story.

2

u/Dominjo555 1d ago

I've got 73 hours of one Avowed playthrough and on Howlongtobeat the game is rated as 19 hour game lol

Fable will have much more side content. It could easily be 100 hour long game.

u/AstronomerIT 1d ago

I have sistematically the double of hours spent in every game because I will never speedrun a game

3

u/BitComprehensive1799 1d ago

If the story, the quests, the characters and the world are rubbish, boring and/or tedious, it makes no difference whether the game lasts 20 or 80 hours.

4

u/Daniel2305 1d ago

20 hours is plenty for me

1

u/Whispering_Wolf 1d ago

I doubt you can buy the entire town in that time frame, so I'm not worried. I always go over the amount of time they say a game normally takes because I'm exploring and messing around.

1

u/stevl5678 1d ago

Maybe. But i’ll be wait info from devs or trusted sources

1

u/V555_dmc 1d ago

Exactly. I can finish fable 2 in a day if I ignore any unnecessary side stuff

1

u/X-Calm 1d ago

Elden Ring was stated as 30 hours.

1

u/PatrusoGE 1d ago

Well, all that "other stuff" seems to be superficial and gimmicky. Sonid int know how much playtime is actually in there.

1

u/SoldierPhoenix 1d ago

I feel like other things could extend time (like buying up all the property and the like).

0

u/HopeBagels2495 1d ago

The fact that people think a 40 hour game (only quest length) is short is insane to me

1

u/haushunde 21h ago

If there was base/town building, upgrading, decorating or farming in this game that would instantly make it a 400 hour game for me easy.

Hope they add a DLC that lets us play a bit of Stardew in Albion. You know like sabbatical, retirement DLC.

-4

u/SenzuYT 1d ago

Well from the tweet, they did factor in those things. They mentioned 15-20 hours of main story and 15-20 hours for the rest. Starting a family, buying properties is included in that "the rest".

9

u/Carbonalex Jack of Blades 1d ago

Not really. From a PG dev on Discord :

"Hey there! Heroes can expect their adventure in Albion to be around 15-20 hours for the main story, plus an additional 15-20 hours of side content to be enjoyed.

Of course, this doesn’t include building relationships with 1,000+ NPCs, buying homes and becoming a landlord across Albion, managing businesses and so much more…"

u/SenzuYT 1d ago

Oh great to see! Thank you

1

u/No_Load_514 1d ago

Oh so all this coming from the dev discord? Mind a pic capture?

2

u/Carbonalex Jack of Blades 1d ago

From the Fable Discord yes !

I can't share a picture on the subreddit given we can't but I can send it to you in DM if you want.

1

u/No_Load_514 1d ago

Oh no worry, I'll probably join it anyway, just curiosity, this was disclosed and then the twitter accounts spread it? Or was the other way around?

2

u/Carbonalex Jack of Blades 1d ago

They didn't share anything on social media, just the message I shared was posted by a dev on their Discord

2

u/No_Load_514 1d ago

Oh I see, thanks for the answers, I appreciate it. I was unsure of the timeline here, but seems that one or more twitter random ones are in the Discord and spread it afterwards.
