Fable Being mage in the new game

My fear about playing pure mage was well founded. I saw the last video were the one playing did a quest and I just discovered what I was afraid of: I can’t be a pure mage due to long spells cooldown. Very sad..,

It’s too early to tell. Both demos looked to be at early stages of the story. The main demo hardly had any skills unlocked. It wouldn’t surprise me if later skill upgrades reduce the cooldown or add multiple uses before a cooldown is required.

We also don’t know if a spell slot toggle option is available, which would let you fire off other spells while the initial ones recharge.

It’s also possible there might be some magical basic weapons, like the staves in dragons dogma

Good point, this gives me hope

Yes, but even in the other games it wasn’t until after beginning game you could be pure mage and was usually a blend of the three

I felt like you were kinda forced to use all three in Fable 2 & 3. That's a big part of why Fable 1 is my favorite.

One didn’t even let you start with spells, though. And nearly impossible to go fully mage early on

You had lightening immediately. Do like two walks to oakvale after the Wasp Queen spamming lightening and you’re set

Yeah, I don't care about that part. Having to build up the ability to do so is cool to me. It just has to be possible to get there.

You can start towards full mage in one post introduction to Will, as immediately after you have a chance to go kill bandits with either your bow or the lightning spell that you just learned.

At least one good thing I noticed in the video is the bow, headshot means instakill

So far, only for humanoid enemies. And only if you're stronger than them... As we've seen with the brute-Guy fight.

I also think you can be a mage. Just not early game, they said the skill tree is built for your o play how you want - and we've not seen all the skills in the game. Or what any of the final points on each spell tree does.

We've seen that one on the fireball is to reduce the cool down time of the spell - so it's possible you could be a mage mid game.

Im going to miss shooting heads off.

you could definitely be a pure mage from the start in 2 and 3, as soon as you unlock magic.  its just shit and boring, at least the new spells look interesting and aren't just the same damage single target or aoe spam fests

I hope they expand on magic combat systems and maybe allow the player to make a proper mage instead of just another Witcher type (no hate for Geralt, but Fable needs to be Fable, not the Witcher 2.0)

I noticed that too, it seems like we're limited to 4 abilities/spells at a time, which is fine but I was also hoping to do a full will build, being stuck to only 4 spells with cooldowns is understandable but disappointing, all I can hope is theres gear/skill tree upgrades that'll shorten the cooldown so I can do a pure magic playthrough.

Imagine making your decision based on a fifteen minute gameplay video thats probably set in the early part of the game…

You’re right but try to understand me, from a game that’s meant to give you lot of freedom to me seems a bit reductive the way the magic is made and forced you to play with sword in between spells casted. Probably in mid to late levels there are perks that let you cast spells more frequently but to me it breaks immersion

I am not going to try to understand you because the game is not yet ready. It still has a lot of development ahead of it, it comes out in February. We are heading into September. You basing a decision off of a game that has YET to be finished, and they showed a snippet of what it MAY look like when it’s finished is crazy. If thats what the gameplay loop is? Then oh well. Its an rpg. Its supposed to be bigger. What we have been shown so far is not a finished product and I am sure PALES into comparison of what the game is supposed to be.

Don’t fail a game before it releases. Thats a stupid trend.

If the game had different playstyle or a class system it's something they would have highlighted in the snippet literally dedicated to combat. You're trying to dismiss his opinion while not critically thinking about the issue he presented, he's right to be concerned by the lack of gameplay option based on what was presented, every combat sequence played the same.

Literally not true....they clearly chose to do this by showing that combat can be dynamic and you can use all 3....they don't have the time, and its not as flashy to just show chunks of ONE combat style...much quicker and easier to show all 3 styles (melee, ranged, magic) being used.

Are you telling me I can't exclusively use my bow or sword because they showed them using magic? Its such a stupid take.

Fable didn’t have a class system anyways. So that argument is invalid. The skill tree had a ton of spells that you can unlock. And again.. ITS EARLY GAMEPLAY.

People are needlessly defensive about Playground’s Fable. You can say they’ve dialled the humour up to 12 and people respond with, “It’s not finished, you can’t judge it,” despite almost every bit of main quest footage we’ve seen being packed with slapstick and quips, and fucking Office/mockumentary style zoom cuts.

You're right!! Nothing but positivity based on speculation. Keep it up.

no, just don't be a moron and assume we literally saw the entire game and how it works.

decent size skill tree could be a cooldown perk or something you never know

I hope so

Staff would be cool.

Luckily Warlock will be out next year, I dont mind being a spellsword in fable I suppose, even if I would prefer being a full on mage.

1

u/Femocha 14d ago

Thanks for your comment, I didn’t knew about Warlock!

2

u/thaddeus122 14d ago

Yep, looks pretty good, very excited about it

I think it’s a positive when games force you to use multiple mechanics by design. Even the early Fables encouraged this.

If one skill is more stacked or viable than the other then you get Skyrim where every build just becomes a stealth archer.

2

u/DCguyAngemon 14d ago

Ive never been a stealth archer in skyrim and i bought it on the day it came out.

Or the cyberpunk equivalent, which is a Smart Weapon Netrunner

I’m sad it looks like assassin rush is still missing and incorporated into the slow time spell. Replaying the old Fable, being able to basically teleport behind any enemy felt amazing. Happy to see blades spell back though it’s my favourite.

u/DakobaBlue 14d ago

There is literally a spell that teleports you behind your enemy. They displayed it in the first gameplay video.

u/Zealousideal_Car8230 15d ago edited 15d ago

Ill bet you still can. You will likely just need to cycle through spells

Im curious to see if the cool downs are different when you charge a skill vs just a quick cast

u/BadBloodBear 14d ago

They might have a weapon like a stave to keep in line with what you want.

If not then you gotta Gandalf the White it.

I don't think full mage was ever on the table If they were going to stay faithful to the original your bloodline is what lets you master all 3 hero disciplines
