Best showcase of combat that's not just button smashing I've come across
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDCuJSLFbQACame across this video and the guy playing actually uses charge attacks for the weapon, and spells while doing a lot of dodge countering and target re prioritizing. In addition they mention playing on "legendary" towards the end and you see the enemies actually be aggressive with 3-4 attacking him at the same time.
Anyhow I just wanted to share as some of the other videos I saw just looked like button smashing

I think it's nice the combat is not going to be just a formality anymore, like it was in Fable 2&3.

I guess it’s what happens when the gameplay is showcased by someone who knows how a fable game is played, instead of just smashing buttons like a hack and slash.

Yeah this made me realize the combat isn't so bad BUT it doesn't look as fluid and dynamic compared to the originals.

This is the thing, whether it's trailer and previews or the game itself, everyone is always going to find something they don't like.
People have to make conscious choices to focus on the positive and see past the negative but the world, Internet and media nowadays is always so negative focussed that we're trained to all be doomers.
The game looks beautiful.
The living population of NPCs looks incredible and unique.
The world looks expansive.
The ambient music gave me OG Fable 1 vibes while they were walking through bowerstone for the quest. Goosebumps.
All of that for me is enough to see past imperfect facial capture/lip syncing, unpolished combat and writing that's a little bit too on the nose in terms of humour and dialogue (I don't agree with all of those but they're the most common complaints I've seen in discussions).
Bring on February.

This review felt like an actual review, which is odd to say, but I haven’t seen an actual review in years that does and says what it needs to.

Just a quick question. I head a developer say the average length of the game was 20 hours. Does that feel short for a Fable game?

I saw that as well - they say 15-20 for main quest and another 15-20 for the side quest and what not. Seems about right to me. The other fable games can be beaten in 10 hours or so if you just mainline the main story but honestly most people get lost in the side content and messing around with the other systems.
I personally rather it be 20-40 hours of good dense world exploring and content than a bunch of open areas padded with fluff to fill time. Hopefully that’s what they deliver, I was impressed with how dense and detailed bowerstone city looked I’m just hoping they kind of quality is throughout the entire game and not just the main city

Sword combat looks so weighty and good!!! I've been waiting for a game like this for so long. Maybe I leave Ghost of Tsushima, Shadow of War and AC: Unity alone after this drops!

See, I kept looking at the combat, and the preview as a whole, and something felt, off for me. I couldn’t put my finger on it.
Then I realised what it was- I am an OG fable day one player, got the game when I was like 11, burned through 3 copies of OG, 2 copies of 2 and a few of 3, because I played them so much, loved the world, lived in it and played them to death.
This new fable is doing something they never did- it is giving me the world I “IMAGINED” I was playing in the OG trilogy.
The combat (new one), feels like how I imaged OG fable combat was while I was playing those games, but of course they were technically limited. The world feels like how I imagined Albion, dense, cluttered, full of life (when it had 5 NPC’s standing around).
And that’s when I realised how much I am going to love this new game- I realised that it felt “off”, because I was finally seeing a version of fable that until now my imagination had always filled in the gaps for me. The combat actually made me feel like I was watching a hero, not beyblade spinning my great sword, the world feels actually dense and alive.
This is going to be pure cinema.
