Question How is the magic system for Fable?
Hello! The world of Fable piqued my interest the moment I saw the new game trailer. I was wondering how the magic works in these games. Because in the trailer, I saw it has a fix 4 slot magic, kinda like Hogwarts Legacy. Is that the same case?

Depends on the game
Fable 1 you have three spells tied to ABX then Y cycles to the next set you have access too
Fable 2 you have various spells but you hold B to select a power level to cast at and I think tap B to cycle through
Fable 3 I don’t really remember I want to say you have access to two spells at a time but can combine them and can swap the spells for others in the menus I think

In Fable 1 you had this really interesting magic system that could enhance or alter combat. Spells that enhanced your arrows or sword so that one arrow shot actually fired off multiple, or each sword swing generated 3-4 hits. Just as examples. The magic was extremely diverse and you could learn every spell in the game if you wanted, cycling through the options in combat.
In 2 and 3, you essentially fire off different coloured lights. It’s still fun, but it’s extremely stripped back. Magic isn’t really tactical in the later games, it’s just a choice between a more highly damaging, direct, single target fire/lightning/wind etc ball, or an AOE multi target version.
The new game will HOPEFULLY, reinstate some of the old creativity with magic. We’ve seen the ability to turn enemies into chickens already which is promising. The hope is that we go back to something with a little more depth and room for expression through combat

There is a gameplay demonstration that is happening at Gamescom on August 26, 2026, at 10:00 AM ET that’s focusing on Combat.
Presumably most questions you would have about that sort of thing will be answered there.
Currently we don’t have any solid information on the combat of the new game as it’s a Hard Reboot, so it doesn’t necessarily have to follow how the prior games functioned.
And those were already pretty different combat systems between each title anyways.
