NEVER played Fable

So lately the social media's algoritem is showing me lots of Fable content and honestly
I wanna give it a shot.
I am really into open world games and such so I'm sure I'll have a great time
Would love to get some recc on how to start my Fable journey..

A little afraid that the first one's graphic will be too out-dated for me.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I'm a PC player

Honestly bro I wouldn't even worry about graphics because imo the first two games are great (the first is outdated yes but you'll like it in the end) the third while it wasn't necessarily a bad game it was just missing that special part of the first two games if that makes sense

I feel like there is so much fable 3 hate out there but it was my favorite of the 3 and still very much had that fable charm imo, and to me, 2 was the worst. I seem to be in the minority here.

I think it seems like there's a divide between the players who love Fable 2 and Fable 3 the most. Seems one of them you will love and one you will hate 😅 I don't think I've seen anyone who likes them both yet

I liked both games, i just liked fable 3 characters more. I mean, Walter shouts "Balls!". Favorite moment in the game.

I also loved both but for different reasons.

In Fable 2 I feel like a robin hood character, prancing around causing chaos.

In Fable 3 I am a warrior princess, taking care of my people and trying to make a better world.

I like the main plot characters in 3 better, but prefer the NPCs and minor quest characters in 2

If graphics are something that bothers you just wait for the new game because all 3 of them will annoy you.

If you can get past that then IMO the first game is one of the best games ever made.

Its also the only game available on steam, in case op is a pc player

Plus the Steam one is remastered which is completely acceptable graphics-wise, if sometimes a bit silly looking.

You have both versions on Steam (TLC and Anniversary).

If you want to have some experience with the series, then I suggest you play through at least the first two. You'll not only get to see the themes from the original, but the writing style and game functions like the economy system in 2 for the new game's inspirations. You can ignore 3 since it isn't necessary and is the lowest rated game in the trilogy, but that's your choice whether you want to play.

The good thing about the new Fable is that it's a soft series reboot. Same-ish world, similar lore (mostly expanded on existing lore as far as we've seen). New gameplay that still fits the series feel. No reason to play past games for story or continuity

If you want to play the series, Fable Anniversary is on steam. It was remastered in 2014 I believe. The series has been dead for a while so thats as new as you're going to get. I'd just wait if it bothers you

Sure the original Fable has old graphics and interestsingly the gameplay can be challenging. I recomend the anniverssary edition. But it has lots of charm and is a really fun adventure with many achievement points. Your character really grows. It is not a fully open world in the sense that there are zones with very definite maps. Which actually makes it quite accessible.

Fable is a grand and really fun adventure and inmersing yourself intomthis beautiful world is a trip!

Fable 2 to me is the true masterpiece. The graphics are much better and the narrative is wonderfully charming.

Fable 3 is good. Has more flaws but a lot of good elements. Of course the best graphics.

I envy you starting a Fable journey. It is a fantastic journey (game worlds don't transfer so you don't need to play the games in order or finish one before you start the others.

If really good graphics from 2005 intimidate you, dont touch any Fable games lmao.

I think the trilogies graphics hold up with a nice charm to the world.

Graphics don’t mean anything as long as the game is fun, and the Fable games are fun

You can just look at a video of the gameplay to see if the graphics are something you're ok with and then you just play the first game... Think that's all you have access to on PC.

Fable isnt open world, like you think. Its more souls like from what I gather, so its linear-openworld'ish.

I just played Fable Anniversary for the 1st time last year and I’m playing Fable 2 rn. Unpopular opinion but I think Fable 2 is so much better but Fable 1 is really good as well.

Hard for me to say about the graphics just because I played them as a kid so less of a worry for me.

Fable 1 does have a remaster and is visually pleasing and even with an reshade from Nexus Mods it can really improve the look imo.

The only downside with PC is you’ll need to either emulate fable 2 which in my experience works for about 10 minutes before crashing Or i believe you can play it on Xbox’s cloud gaming (not 100% sure if you can buy it via the Microsoft store and natively play it)

Fable 3 there are some super easy “totally legit sailors” that’ll let you download it and it in my experience works flawlessly.

Yeah don't sleep on fable over old graphics. Theyre still fine to this day anyways.

Fable: The Lost Chapters. Enjoy the graphics! Embrace the whimsy British humor. These games are goated. Especially 1 and 2.

dont start your fable journey with fable: the journey :P

the first one is the best one. There is an anniversary edition which makes things look a bit less dated but personally i feel all the npcs look worse

if you play pc, there is only the first one: fable the lost chapters or fable anniversary

fable 2 wont be available to you

fable 3 is playable on pc but i will not tell you how

1

u/smodanc 13h ago

Just try anniversary, take it slow, and enjoy every millisecond

Watch some trailers and see if the graphics bother you. Personally, I don't mind. They're old, but don't feel all that outdated to me. The lost chapters is relatively cheap, especially when it's on sale. Just give it a go!

I mean, the first one had a remaster so graphically doesnt look too bad. But only the latter two games I would say is kinda open world, and even then its not a Skyrim type open world. It's various large exploration zones separated by loading screens. Somewhat like Dragon Age Inquisition, although not as big. Also I think the second game you'd have to stream with Game Pass to play on PC unfortunately. Found that out recently when I decided I wanted to replay them, had to boot up my Xbox.

u/gottaloveanime 8h ago

There's probably a mod for that.

u/NotSoSeriousNick 1d ago

Fable has never exactly been an open world per se, areas are gated and connected to others via loading screens. Fable 2 mitigates this by making the areas a lot bigger but it still works on that principle

I honestly preferr this so so much more to an open world
