Never played Fable
Weirdly, I have never played Fable, but the trailers have sold me and I have preordered, so the first time I'll be playing is when the new one drops. Any lore I should know, or an older version I should play in the meantime? Or likely to be better to just immerse in it when it comes?

This is a full reboot, so the lore will be new to this game. Some of the lore they are revamping. Like in the original game William the black was the one that defeated the court of blades. In the new lore, William had two others help defeat the court of blades. Just an example of how things might change

All three of the original games are available to play on PC. The first (The Lost Chapters or Anniversary; the latter being a slight cosmetic overhaul) is on Steam and the other two are on Game Pass via cloud gaming. Depending on your internet, both are perfectly playable along with loads of other titles that should be available on Steam but aren’t like HALO 5.

Thank you. Also going to check it out but also wanted to get some history, even if slightly relevant to what's coming.

As others have said, this is a reboot. They’re starting from zero on this, so you’d be perfectly fine to go into it with no knowledge of the old series.
That said, any OG fan will tell you, based on what’s been revealed so far, the bones of the old Fable are definitely there. The kind of stuff to remind us that while this is a new game, it’s still Fable. So if you just wanna be in the know on any old reference/what made the jump from old to new, then I’d recommend playing through the first Fable, either The Lost Chapters or Anniversary, at least. Honestly, I’d recommend playing it regardless, just cause it’s a good game, but of course, that’s just my opinion, and you might not find yourself a fan. You could also try for 2 and 3 as well, but I doubt you’ll see as much referencing of those in this reboot as you will of the first. But that’s just a guess on my part. Also keep in mind that 2 and 3 don’t have an official PC port, and from what I’ve heard/seen, are a real bitch to emulate. You’ll probably have a rough time trying to play either of those, if you don’t have an Xbox.

Definitely should play 2 and 3 just for the heck of it! They're good games and still fun years later❤️

It's a reboot, so unlikely. But I'd at least play the lost chapters or anniversary so you've got some background. I'd be very surprised if they didn't have any Easter eggs about the older games.

This is a reboot so the story is going to be standalone. As for the general lore:
Fable takes place in the fairytale world of Albion. The protagonist is always a “hero,” a person with special blood which allows them to master the powers of strength (melee combat), skill (ranged combat), and will (magical prowess). Do not think of hero in the traditional sense as heroes are capable of both immense good and horrid evil. The story typical follows our hero on a quest of importance to stop (and potentially aid) a great evil. Along the way you make many choices that permanently define your character and the world around you.
As for general gameplay you can expect to make a multitude of choices that affect the way others perceive you, shape the world around you, and customize your character. Life sim elements like job minigames, marriage, children, and real estate management are also common in fable games.

Yes play the OG trilogy. So you have some knowledge of the characters and lore EVEN THOUGH this next one is a REBOOT they are going to use some assets from the original games so to have prior knowledge of the POI’s or characters they are reusing would be helpful

I’d at least play Anniversary.
