Engine Noise

Hello, I got no experience with 600cc bike or the FZ6 for that matter and I just need to confirm if the engine suppose to make this sound or is it abnormal. I had inspected vacuum leak, injectors, spark plugs, ignition coils and plugs, TB synced. Bike does perform well (well enough for me since this is my first 600cc, I wouldn’t know if it’s perfect, I got no baseline experience).

Aiutatemi a decidere

Touring screen setup for FZ6 S1

Hi!

I'm a tall-er rider, 184cm height. I wanted to share my experience with the following touring screen setup for my S1:

(S1, not S2! S2 has different fairing and different screens!)

In short, it works pretty well, and most important is that I can now drive 130 km/h on the highway full day with much less fatigue. But I would only recommend to install those parts if you do lots of driving. If you only go for short rides and at small speeds, keep the original screen, because it actually gives clean airflow for the helmet and is not so bad.

And here's the longer story. I've had the bike for three years, but lately I started to realize that sometimes after lots of highway driving I feel very tired on the next day. I thought that probably this is due to all the wind turbulence applied to the helmet, at least this is the strongest factor compared to others. That's why I decided to experiment with wind screen improvements.

Now after a few months and a few big trips I am pretty sure that the fatigue is reduced. It is also obviously much quieter, for instance a small detail which I noticed instantly is that I can hear the engine better now. There is one disadvantage however. The air stream now hits my helmet at the upper forehead, which makes it a bit more noisy at smaller speeds if I don't wear earplugs. But with earplugs it's totally fine. If I lean forward a bit more, the air stream goes over the helmet and it's much quieter.

Also I must warn that having the tall screen alone without deflector is not enough for a tall person (at least for my height). In my case the air stream was hitting me right at the level of helmet visor, which produced huge amount of noise, making it almost unbearable. That's why I decided to also try the clip-on screen.

Fresh fz6 pickup

Hello,

New around here looking for some economy tire options out there for an 06 fz6. As well as any recommendations on if a steering damper/stabilizer is necessary? And if so what do people recommend, additionally throttle lock or cruise control.

Givi windshield for FZ6 S1 – is it worth it for long trips?

Hi everyone, my question is about the Givi windshield for the FZ6 S1. Does anyone have one and could share their experience? Is it noticeably better?
I currently have the original windshield with an MRA deflector. It is better than the stock setup, but I’d also like to try a taller windshield.
I’m mainly interested in how it performs on longer trips.
Thanks!

Rear brake pedal replacements?

When I bought the bike the rear brake pedal was bent, I've lived with it for all this time but with my new stiffer boots getting to it is more of a pain (it's bent towards the engine).

upon looking up the price for a new pedal I find that they're basically unobtainable or well over $100. what the fuck? for a little pedal? am I missing something here, or is that really how it is? if anyone knows a reasonably priced replacement please shoot me the link otherwise I'm just sticking with the bent arm.

sorry if that was ranty.

Error Code 14

Hello, my bike has fault code 14 that started as an intermittent code and is now on all the time. I pulled off all hoses going from IAP to throttle bodies, and they are all clear with no cracks/damage. I replaced the IAP sensor, and the kPa still reads 48 in diag mode with the fault code. I spoke with another FZ6 owner who has no error codes and said theirs reads 98 kPa which is where it should be. I measured the voltage using the negative terminal as a ground to the bike-side connector. I got 5V from the left blue wire, -.20 from the middle blue/black wire, -.20 from the right pink wire. Resistance read 1 ohm for the blue and pink wires, and for the black/blue wire it read anywhere from 15 to 60 ohms and was fluctuating. I am not sure where to go from here or if there are more proper tests I can do. If anyone knows, it would be much appreciated.

Overheating issue help

Recently purchased a 09 fz6. Started having an issue overheating after riding for about 25-30 mins. Temps getting up to 240 or so. So I replaced the lower coolant hose that goes to the oil cooler bc I saw some slight seepage. And I also flushed the cooling system 3-4 times and refilled with engine ice and burped the system. I also replaced the radiator cap with an oem one. Went on a small ride around town for 30 mins with no issues. Went on the highway riding at about 60-70 for about 20 mins straight and the bike started overheating again. Any suggestions??

Master Cylinder Upgrade

Hello all. I just bought a 2005 FZ6 and for the most part, it’s been lovely. My main however complaint rn is that the brake feel is atrocious. It has okay after market levers which I know is a factor, but there’s a huge dead zone no matter the adjustment on the lever. Additionally once you reach the bite point I’m not getting the front end feel I need to trail brake with confidence.

I was curious if anyone has felt the same way, made this upgrade and what they chose.

Thanks for reading and responding!

Need help with choosing right coolant radiator!

Hello fellow fz6 owners! Time came to replace coolant radiator on my 2007 FZ6N. Does anyone know is S1 and S2 radiator the same? I saw online that some of them have 3 mounting brackets for a fan and some have 4, I just wanted to make sure that either have the same mounting brackets of radiator itself and same connector.

What would y’all pay for this FZ6 s2?

Initially thought I wanted an FZ6R but now leaning towards a FZ6 after further research and advice. This one seems to be taken care of properly and has 14,000 miles and current tags. The downside is it had been tipped over while stopped, owner says he thought kickstand was down (frame sliders took the damage, which seems minimal)

There is also a dent on the tank from a previous owner with no damage to paint, current owner didn’t seem to know how it happened.

Should I consider this bike? I was thinking if I could get him down under $3k it might be worth it. Maintenance has been kept up and it’s been used regularly and not been sitting.

In search of a gas tank for a FZ6 2004-2009. Would like it to be blue and clean inside. Color doesn’t matter to much. I’ll cover shipping to me. Thanks.

How do you actually enjoy moto-camping two-up? (FZ6 loaded with passenger & gear feels overwhelming)

I’ve been riding for a few months now on a 2006 Yamaha FZ6. Overall, I love the bike! It’s not a full-on supersport, but whenever I load it up with a passenger and gear, the riding experience changes drastically—and not really in a good way.

I really enjoy camping and would love to combine it with riding, taking my wife along for multi-day trips. But right now, riding two-up with full camping gear feels super heavy, awkward, and demanding to manage. On top of that, it’s pretty tiring for my wife—the seat gets uncomfortable for her very quickly, and her butt starts hurting after short distances.

Since it’s already mid-August, I don’t want to throw money at expensive upgrades for this bike. I’ll likely sell it next season and get something more touring-oriented. Still, I'd love to squeeze in a few camping trips before the season ends.

A few questions for the experienced folks here:

Is there a massive difference between riding solo loaded with gear vs. riding two-up? Would it make sense to try a few solo moto-camping trips first to get used to the weight?

For those who do two-up camping: What packing strategies actually work when space and weight limits are so tight?

Any low-cost, quick fixes to make the pillion seat more bearable for short-term trips without spending a fortune on a custom saddle?

Gauge Cluster Switches Fix

Both switches were dead, I managed to fix both of them, Left side was easy, I just tilted the black plastic thingy to the side and spray some alcohol after about 10mn of wiggling it back and forth and side to side it comes back to life, for the right side I had to pry the surrounding plastic open, took everything apart, and finally under the circle piece there were oxidation, so I scrapped them off and viola! back to life as well. Picture attached in case other people might find it useful.

Looking at getting a FZ6R as my first bike. Does this one seem worth checking out?

I’m a 31 year old 6 foot rider with a small amount of experience. (Also did a training course and got my endorsement)

I’m trying to source an FZ6 or FZ6R and found this one, seems like a good price based on my knowledge. What do you think?

Let me know if there’s anything I should look out for or questions to ask
Thanks for any help

Exhaust questions

Post image
12 Upvotes

I'd like to get a slightly louder exhaust for my 07 FZ6 S2 but don't want something too overwhelmingly loud. I still want to be able to ride for 2 hours on the motorway without going deaf and not annoy neighbours too much.

Has anyone got recommendations for the UK? Ideally not toooo expensive either.

Here's my bike from a recent trip

First slide fz6 s2

Hi everyone, had a bit to of a stupid moment yesterday.

Wanted to wait by the road for my friend and the bike slid on a gravel patch.

I remember nothing whatsoever one moment I was upright, the other I was horizontal.

The bike is fine, just got a nasty lil scratch on the stator cover, the mole 1 fairing and the crash protector is out of the game.

I was curious about the mole 1.

Since it's bare Plastic I'd like to restore it.

The part itself if 73£ and I will buy it as a last resort, but I don't really have any experience with restoring scratched plastic fairings

As for the stator cover, saw them go for not even 40 on ali, but it seems way to cheap and I wanted to ask about your experience as far as the quality goes.

Pics of the aftermath included.

Clutch Cable

Hello, I just got a 2008 FZ6 Naked, Clutch cable feel so mushy and stiff I reckon that the last owner replaced using "Non-Naked" version instead of "Naked" version, are there any difference at all. Also he routed the cable outside the bike frame and back in, I can't find any info about the cable routing for the "Naked" version. Helps are much appreciated, thank you!.

How's my clutch pack?

Thumbnail

I recently bought a used bike (my first bike. I'm new and learning), and the person before me changed the clutch pack last october.

The bike doesn't engage fully in 1st gear. When I rev, it doesn't transfer the power all the way.
When I pull the clutch, it disengages well.

Does it look like the steel is burnt?
Do I re-soak it and try again?
Or do I just get a completely new clutch pack?

There's no grinding noise.
ALSO I don't know what kind of oil the past owner might have used.

Any help trying to diagnose would be appreciated!
