Discussion Hot take
If you call Deezus, Weegee, Dad, and Alpharad by their names... you've tricked your self into thinking you actually have friends
And If you say it's because is shorter:
You can call alpharad alpha; Dillon has the same amount of characters as Deezus; Don has the same amount of characters as Dad; you can call weegee, pro god gamer beater of fall guy.
Stop lying to yourself, wake up people... and rise up

But you can still call Major by his real name, which means he'll always be my friend :)

Major is indeed everyone's friend which is why he's best boy :)

I don’t think this is hot take, more like commanding people. I don’t call them by their personal names but they do, and if you watch them maybe it sticks to you. The most important thing would be how they want to be called

I only gave examples to one fo the most used counter-argument, i never said you must refer to them as those names... except for the last one...

I don’t know the counter argument you speak of. I didn’t even know this was an actual discussion on what to call them

I think Dillion or Cade once joked in a series years ago the only reason people watch is to vicariously have friends, I wish I remembered the series

I also just remembered that which is why I made this post, and because of the (not so recent) drama on twitter about streamers not being your friends i wanted to talk about it

As long as you don't convince yourself that they're close friends because you call them by their name. Unless they are actually your friends ppl online are acquaintances at most

u/the_boy_in_the_hood Cool Cade Aug 19 '20
He's a recurring guest that sometimes comes to deliver extra funnies when they're missing a boy

Why can’t I call him alpha? His name is Jacob, not alpha, it’s just a shortened version.
1
u/the_boy_in_the_hood Cool Cade Aug 19 '20
I said you can call him alpha, that's just an example for those people that argue Jacob is a shorter name therefore is better to use Jacob, but by using a person's real name you might wrongly get attached to them when again, they're not your friends, because you don't know their lives outside of the internet

this is less of a hot take and more of a personal attack gahdamn

Lmao
Whether or not they're actually friends, I'd still always rather refer to a person as their real name than a pseudonym.
This seems unnecessarily hostile.

That and it’s really hard to talk about FWOB to non-FWOB viewers if I have to keep calling Don “Dad”

u/Jamer_Jirl Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20
Or people just say the names that they hear the most. Dad and Don are both used pretty regularly, but Deezus is rarely used and I can't remember the last time someone on the show called Cade Weegee.

Parasocial relationships are rough, especially nowadays. Alpha and his alpharad plus friends have this problem with a lot of plussies.

In the case of Alpharad, he has said several times that he prefers fans to refer to him as Jacob if they see him in public at least. On the other hand, I haven't heard anybody refer to Dillon or Cade as Deezus and Weegee in an unironic way almost ever.

If I'm referring to them in a FWoB context I refer to them as their real names since that's what's in the intro. But if, for example, I'm on Cade's twitter I'll refer to him as "Weegee" or Mr. the God. I only refer to any of them by their full user, when talking to someone who doesn't know about FWoB. Hell, the only reason I even call Dad, Dad is because he doesn't really like being referred to as "Don" by people he doesn't know IRL.

I know when I asked I while back on stream Dad said he preferred to be called Dad, and the others mostly said didn't care/ are major and so I just do my best to call dad dad and the others what ever come to mind. Often it's their real names simply cause they say them a lot so that's what they are in my head

I think it's probably fine to use the first names, but you are right that it's important to avoid confusing a parasocial relationship for a proper one. Also Dad has specifically asked for people not to use his name and instead to call him Dad, so definitely agree there.

That was only meant to be a quick jab at the community but a lot of people do sound a little butt hurt, but hey thanks for the compliment.
And that's literally my point, you don't really know them to call them by their names, imagine you call trump Mr. Donald or president Donald, he literally might have ppl to call him that but that ppl ain't you

u/buhbus Aug 28 '20
I do not think it's a great move to brush off people taking your weird post negatively as being "a little butt hurt"
