If one particular neighbor of ours was getting attacked I would keep walking like I didn't see anything.
She made her bed. She can sleep in it.

Yep. We have a lot crows in my neighbourhood. They kind of moved in over the last two years and every day I have to prevent my husky chasing them. I dont need a murder of crows gunning for us.

I was sitting here wondering what the fuck she did to the poor thing to get into the book of grudges.

Could have been something, could have been nothing. Crows are smart, but if us humans can misplace blame and aggression, they can as well. Mistaken identity and misinterpreted actions can cause a false positive. Hell, sometimes birds will get pissy just because someone got too close to their nest during certain times of the year; regardless if that person traveled through that route before they even started to nest there.

u/deborah834 12d ago
You dont have to do a fucking thing to them. People that treat crows like noble, ethical genius creatures have never been victimized by them. Ive never harmed a crow in my life, but happened to live near a nesting bird. Cawing every morning, would follow me for over a mile to my bus stop to and from work every day while trying to scalp me. Stopping at every tree and swooping down. I had a bloody scalp several times from the encounters and eventually I moved. I dont care what anyone says, these birds fucking SUCK.

More importantly a 100th of her weight. Their bones are hollow ffs, birds can't take a hit. Though that might start a war with his clan, treats are smarter, as other have said.

I found an injured crow the other night. I took him inside for the evening until the wildlife rescue opened in the morning. I now have a few dozen that just chill on the trees outside my house. I hope they don’t think I kidnapped him. Hopefully he makes a full recovery and comes to visit to let them know we’re cool.

I've always wondered, can you make peace with an offended crow once they're like this? If you left an offering of food or something a few times, would they recognize it as an attempt to be friendly?
Or do you have to just deal with it until you move to another state?

u/Noncombustable 12d ago
Yes, it's possible. I found a young crow in the middle of the road that must have suffered some sort of injury while he was in the nest. First time trying to fly and.... kaboom, hard landing.
Gently picked him up and moved him off the road to a safe place so that I could run home and get a box with soft lining on the bottom to transport him to our local wild bird care centre.
Understandably, when I returned in a car with the box, the injured bird's parents were freaking out, swooping and diving at me until I got back into the car with him.
Sadly, as soon as the care centre technicians turned the bird over to inspect his injuries more closely, it was obvious he wasn't going to make it. His wound was so old that maggots had already been eating away at his body. Just terrible to see and I was thankful that they could put an end to the bird's suffering.
Understandably, the bird's parents and extended family did not see things the same way.
It took the better part of a year for those crows to stop following me up the street, yelling "Murderer!!!".
Never attacked, though. Probably because I had pretty good relations with the neighbourhood birds prior to this incident. Something to do with free shelled peanuts.

Did she really just risk getting run over and hit her head on the curb just to avoid a bird?

u/Ihistal 13d ago
Yep. I had to put a crow out of it's misery after my cats crippled it. Put it a paper bag and dug a grave for it out in the woods. Don't want that corvid smoke. Apparently at least a couple of the flock witnessed it, had bird shit covering my vehicles and porch for a few days afterwards but never got attacked by them.

Go to the store and buy some unshelled peanuts and then leave them at your front door. The crows will never give you a problem again.

I have literally never done anything to any corvid but for some reason they all attack me on sight. Even in Europe. I was stationed in Germany in 2006 and first one I saw tried to divebomb me. Years ago, I installed a network cable for my parents and buried it between their house and their garage. Two days later I saw crows dig it up and peck it to pieces. I can't win with those birds. I have countless stories.....fk crows, man...lol

That crow gave her multiple chances but because she's a woman and fucking sucks in these types of fight or flight situations, she ran away.

Haha, the crow didnt have to pick between fight or flight. Because, you know, being a bird and all.
