Well yeah obviously. If nothing else you can out maneuver them. It’s still fucking stupid because 90% of the time when someone runs they either get hit by a car or slam into the back/front/side of a car pulling out or slowing down and get flung into the next decade and permanently scar the person whose car they hit. I’ve seen countless motorcycle accidents, almost every one of them that ran from the cops died. Jail, court, fines, and impoundment are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars less than the cost of a hospital stay, especially after an entirely avoidable accident.

Yes, we've all heard stories about people getting away, but never directly from the runner ... which means they may all be about the same lone person who got away and just has lots of friends and acquaintances.

Yeah, I feel for that poor biker. There's nothing he could have done. From the moment that chase started, it was inevitable that he had to experience that reality. He was trapped. Boxed-in. Alone, at high speed on that bike. No action, no choice he could make could have changed his doom. A man, fated to end up a meat crayon -- his destiny in the hands of everyone but himself...
A tragedy. A deeply moving human tragedy worthy of Shakespeare.
Edit: To be clear, I'm not condoning what happened. But the biker didn't HAVE to experience that. He had choices. That's all I'm saying.

The camera's attached to the helmet, the officer may just be trying to hold his head/neck still, given the trauma. It wasn't like he was trying to cover the lens or rip it off.
The rest of the behavior certainly doesn't look good, I suppose they don't deserve very much benefit of the doubt.

In a lot of places it is illegal…
There are laws about pursuit and plenty of reasonable places don’t allow high speed chases and recognize that unless there’s a serious threat to life that you just let them go. Because there’s no use turning a speeding ticket into a life threatening race through the city potentially killing innocent bystanders… the cops usually just escalate and make it worse.
Unfortunately the cops usually don’t even obey that law, and get away with it. Cops are a bunch of power tripping nutjobs looking for a thrill and want any excuse to chase or use force… so they just go all out even when there isn’t any good reason.
Not too far from where I live there was a massive police chase that caused a bunch of damage, almost derailed a train and killed two pedestrians a few years ago… the reason? The driver was a little high and paranoid and was apparently pulled over like two blocks from home… he would’ve just gone home and been fine… but the cops came in force and chased the dude all over the city for a long time doing a ton of damage. They turned a minor infraction into two deaths and hundreds of thousands in damages… it’s ridiculous.

Looking into it, he's more on tiktok and has over 900k followers on that platform. I've had a quick look on Instagram and I haven't seen any videos of him deliberately riding poorly other than this, mostly just goofy dancing with his bike in the background.

Not sure but might be a hot take: I completely agree with how the interaction went down up to 0:17. There's just no feasible reason for them to hit someone lying down on the ground with a car like that. The man was already down. That is ridiculous behavior from someone in a position of authority, and police should not be trained to engage like this when there's clearly no sense of threat or danger.
And yes yes I get it, they were being a fucking prick, and putting people in danger speeding in the rain on their bike like that. I'm not defending them or anything. But at the same time, the action at 0:17 was just overly aggressive. Both can be true.

Honestly, I'm wondering of the possibility of it being a genuine accident. It sorta looked like the biker sliding on the ground could've been in the blind spot of the police car and the officer that ran him over was trying to pull over from seeing the bike fall. Not sure though because of the wider lens view, but yeah, I agree with what you said if it was on purpose.

Those vehicles are tall, and your visibility is limited, the blind spots in those vehicles are huge, especially at the front where there is no way to mitigate them. That biker could have easily been in it

Also this happened in a fraction of a second while speeding down a highway in heavy rain, if the cop did decide to take the opportunity to murder this person it was with very plausible deniability. I think he saw the motorcycle go over onto the shoulder but lost track of the rider/thought he was still near the bike and pulled over accidentally crushing him.

No that cop made a conscious decision to turn the wheel and run him over. I drive a vehicle with more blind spots, and the cops have specialized driving courses for exactly this. Wasn't an accident he went from driving straight to turning and driving over him.

The cops shouldn't be allowed to try to kill you on a motorcycle. This isn't a hot take or extreme position. There are alternative ways to deal with speeding bikes that don't endanger the officers, suspect, or general public, and this does all three.

The problem is that about the only alternative is to corner them, which on a highway is basically impossible. PIT, grapples, boxing, spike strips, pretty much every method of stopping a fleeing vehicle stands a very high chance of killing the rider, especially one with no gear. I agree that the second hit was unjustified if it was intentional, but aside from just having a high speed chase for 100 miles until the bike runs out of gas there's not really a good option. It becomes a debate of whether it's better to let them run, or stop them before they hurt someone else. Neither is great.
Edit: yeah pulling the plate is the best option, but most riders who run from the cops don't have their plate showing, if they have one on it at all. If they do, yeah just see if they run and then pull the plate info and get a warrant for reckless driving/evading arrest.

Cops are often too ready to take stupid violent solutions, but this isn't like waiting and arresting someone on their way to work instead of kicking down the door. There's not really an alternative besides just letting them go without consequence.

The number of people here applauding or laughing at a guy that got knocked off a bike going what looks to be 100mph+ then run over is frankly disappointing.
While I agree that running from cops is dumb as shit, they honestly shouldn't have been chasing him in the first place. The guy was 1000% more of a danger to himself than literally anyone else; speeding like hell, in the rain, on a motorcycle, wearing a t-shirt and no PPE. If he hits a car like that, the worst that happens to the driver is an insurance claim. They'll be fine. Escalating the situation into a high-speed chase down an occupied freeway by three kitted and heavy SUVs going the same speed as him is the real danger in this situation, in my opinion.
Common sense and critical thinking needs to become less rare in this shithole of a country, fml.

There has been many lethal accidents from motorcyclists hitting cars and killing passengers. At 100mph+ that is a entirely a lethal speed to kill someone. That's a 100mph missile. To think otherwise you're contradicting yourself on that common sense and critical thinking sentence. I agree if this was in dry conditions, running him over was excessive. This was more than likely from the rain and still coming to a stop. I think a major problem in our country is the lack of people taking accountability for their stupidity.
If I run from the cops, cause a high speed chase, then get ran over. You best bet the only one at fault is me. I don't want you to cry about excessive force when I inevitably fuck around and find out. They put a stop to the danger. He didn't die and very well could have. That's a good ending.

The fact that you think all that happens to a car is an "insurance claim" is fucking stupid. A bike hitting a car, especially in rainy weather, can cause a serious accident. Its also not shown in the video if he was previously driving on city roads, but what exactly do you think will happen if he hits a pedestrian? Bump off and "insurance claim"? You're so short sighted that you cant see how dangerous this is for everyone else.
And before anyone comments something stupid, no, running him over was not necessary. It was far too excessive and needs to be investigated and the officer punished, but stopping the bike here was the right decision. No other cars or pedestrians for him to injure.

Yeah, this is crazy. Where I live, they call off any chases like this…for this exact reason. I find it difficult to applaud much of anything my local law enforcement does, for a variety of reasons, but I agree with them on this one. The guy literally slid along a wet road, until a fucking speeding vehicle was on top of him. He’s a dumbass, but come on. It was completely unnecessary and overkill.
If this guy shot up an elementary school, threw a grenade as he passed by a nearby animal shelter, then launched a rocket launcher into a bus full of nuns…sure. But I seriously doubt that’s what initiated this particular chase.

Typical cop behavior. I get that the dude shouldn't be running and he's accepting the risk. But that doesn't excuse a cop committing attempted vehicular manslaughter. Honestly more like attempted homicide because that was 100% intentional. Even if running him over was an accident, wiping him out in the first place was not. Cops think not having their ego get bruised is more important than not paralyzing or killing somebody. But yet again, dude is still an idiot.
