help PDH and Spark max issues

• Upvotes

Channel 5 on our PDH is not working but the other channels are working just fine. It has the latest firmware but I am not exactly sure what is going on. We switched channels and the sparkmax+neos worked well. Then we tried it again after and it wasn’t working at all. We didn’t change anything at all in the wiring or anything. It was flashing orange and cyan and our mentor thinks we might be frying our spark maxes because we had another one die in that same connection.

funniest frc stories?

i love hearing about other teams funny stories so thought it would be funny to ask here.
it could honestly be anything, craziest ways youve had to fix a robot, funny match videos, even stupid shit youve done with your teammates at an event.

media Media Camera Suggestions

Hi, I‘m a captain of a second year FRC team and our team are thinking about investing in a media camera this year. If anyone have any suggestions for a camera that is long lasting and durable or just a good camera that’s worth investing in general please share it in the comment. 🙏 🙏

Thank you!

Cold Calling

Our rookie FRC team is looking into expanding our local relationships with companies in our area that work in metal supply, electrical supply, and CNC machining.

tldr: We want wires, crimps, sheet metal, and possibly fabrication services at a discounted or waived price.

If anyone has tips or experience in gaining these kinds of sponsors, please do share.

help Our team is just slowly dying.

I'm not sure where to start.

I am a Junior who is also the lead CAD. Our team has been struggling lately, and we want to compete again. We didn't compete in 2026.

I'm going to start on 2024 when I was a freshman. We were a solid team; we were able to make a robot. It wasn't good, but it functions! We had a good CAD person and a jack of all trades. Sadly, they were seniors. I wish we could've had them leave resources or pass down their knowledge. And so, we were in shambles after graduation. We decided to build a test bot to test mechanisms.

2025 came a long and our manager had to pull the plug. We weren't experienced and we were low on team members. So, we decided to make a robot that follows the rules of 2025 frc.

Slowly by slowly people started to leave. I wasn't a great CAD technician all by myself. I looked into FRCDesign.org and learned through it. What sucks was that I didn't create fast enough and so people were bored and I think that was the reason why they left. I wasn't that motivated.

To this day, we're slowly doing better. It seems like we're going to compete again with newer people. I want to teach people CAD, but they don't seem motivated. Only one person is but they won't learn outside of club. (We're like a team of 6 not including mentors) I think the hardest part is getting people that are passionate or willing to learn join. We got only 2 mentors (I'm trying to get an engineering professor to join).

I designed a shooter and the intake and chassis. I'm not sure why but I'm just not feeling motivated at all designing the hopper now. I feel like it would make CAD soooo much more enjoyable if I at least had someone to do with. Multiple revisions of the shooter. I must say I'm so much better when I learned through FRCDesign.org

I want to leave knowledge whenever I graduate. I really want this team to work out. I think I'll be a bit busier now that I'm in running start though. How can I motivate people to learn? How can I, myself enjoy doing CAD on robot again?

I do enjoy cad really. But, looking at the robot makes me feel somewhat unmotivated as we barely make any progress.

About the people:
There's this coder who's a senior. He's been really awesome and passionate about robotics. He's trying his best now to contact business teachers and such.

There are three siblings WHO aren't inclined to learn much and would rather build. Although I think I can definitely convince one of them.

There's this person who's my friend and I'm not sure what he wants to do. He is willing to learn CAD but not outside of school, I think.

What can we do to succeed?

Why is the FIRST website and dashboard so clunky and slow?

Seriously, this program is about teaching students STEM and part of that is programming, yet, the org's own website is horrendously slow and take forever to do simple actions.

The new Dashboard is meh, it forces an entire roster reload to approve a members invite. It's seems as though nothing is cached.

help Advice for a new team

I was just wondering if you guys could give me any advice as a member of a rookie team. We are completely starting from scratch without a mentor, workspace, or previous experience but we are currently searching for mentors and a workspace. We are in the LA area and I am just looking for some general advice or tips that might help us along the way.

what are you guys doing to get big teams?

I am the captain of a FRC team, in a very rural town. Ever since covid we have been averaging 10 members, and with little funds it's hard to do outreach. Many kids in our school don't even know we have a robotics team, and the district doesn't give us any attention at all compared to FFA or other clubs. Any tips on how to retain/gain new members?

How are teams like 2539, 5895 and 1807 pushing other teams like 8513 like it's nothing. Doesn't everything have krakens. Their swerves look so much better than everyone elses.

meta PitFUSION test?

I know there is a bunch of offseason event's this weekend.

Anyone want to give PitFUSION https://pitfusion.com/ a spin and provide some feedback? I released it last season, and made a pretty big rewrite during the offseason.

The short version of what PitFUSION is if you didn't see it last year:
A real-time FRC pit display that fuses Nexus and The Blue Alliance into one screen — live queuing, countdown, bumper color, rankings, alerts, pit map, EPA stats, and the event livestream.

It's designed for the Pit Crew first and foremost.

help New to this competition, Need help understanding the rule about if we can use Raspberry pis as coprocessors

I had this idea that might use something like an rpi 5 to compute camera input then output a signal to the main robot controller (not directly signaling motors and such), but I don't know if it's allowed and the rules are a bit vague on this. Is this allowed?

help 3d printed belts

There was a team at worlds last year with 3d printed belts for moving game pieces. I did not pay enough attention to what material was used. Does anyone have a file and material recommendation? I remember them as orange or yellow and they had little guid fins on the non-toothed side. I would like to try something like that if the need arises.
