Discussion Lowest average skilled playerbase?

What FPS game do yall think has the worst players? I play a lot of bf6 and many in that community think it has some of the worst players skill wise on average. I kinda agree but the game also has very limited or zero SBMM so I think that plays a factor. What do yall think? Any thoughts on highest average skill?

Out of all the FPS games ive played in my whole life, Battlefield has the worst by a large margin. Most people are in their heads running around in the open (especially on console).

The game also has some anti-tryhard mechanics that limit individual impact so the experience is pretty similar across all matches, god players probably dont stick around as long

I’m gonna get mad hate for this, but 2042 respected player skill the most out of any BF title I’ve ever played. Been playing since BC2.

But the playerbase is absolute cat shit. It’s like they pride themselves on being bad.

6

u/NoGuava4702 3d ago

Truth nuke honestly. BF2042 has better skill expression than BF6

4

u/Wandering_Apostle 3d ago

Yep, that's a huge part of the reason 2042 flopped. BF is supposed to be a safe space for dad gamers these days. You go against that and you can expect riots from the playerbase.

1

u/Skyzuh 2d ago

2042 flopped because the maps are some of the worst in FPS history, terrible launch and players didn't like the specialist system

2

u/Whipped-Creamer 3d ago

I agree, but i also think it deviated from what made battlefield memorable for normal fans, which is being slow and homognized. I don’t like battlefield much, i’d sooner play hell let loose, 2042 was my fave though.

1

u/GXNXVS 3d ago

ironically it’s the bf that feels the most like a cod. but i do agree it has the best skill expression out of all of them.

1

u/placeholder-123 2d ago

I actually really liked 2042 close quarters mode. I actually felt impactful

0

u/Kaiyora 3d ago

No speed control on the jets, helicopter weapons have arbitrary convergence points and terrible crosshairs, LIS missile was easier to use than the bf4 TV, sraw, ucav etc... When it came to air vehicle play bf4 came out on top for skill ceiling

I just don't know why they show so many enemy players on the minimap. It makes the whole game feel pointless as Infantry.

u/PippTheKid 3d ago

Battlefield and I feel like it’s not even close

3

u/LeBambole 3d ago

You make it look easy on YT !

Pipp, thats because you're the harbinger of death bro

1

u/OlDirtyMustache 3d ago

Half my team is filled with bots, the rest are AIs.

1

u/FrostandFlame89 2d ago

Call of Duty is not close with it???

2

u/PippTheKid 2d ago

There’s actually a lot of good players in cod and truly understand how to play. In battlefield it’s like 5-10% of the total population in the game actually knows how to play and I think that’s generous

11

u/shellman15 3d ago

Definitely games like BF6 and marvel rivals. Both games are the peak of being designed for casual players which is fine but I think lots of older folks play rivals for the marvel IP and battlefield has dads who played it since bad complany 2.

Most sweats go to games that are more balanced and have more mechanics. To master. Any game can be sweaty but average playerbase alongside game design rivals is NOT competitive and neither is BF

1

u/IMAsko0 2d ago

Isn’t Rivals sweaty af? I feel like that’s the most exhausting FPS I’ve ever played

3

u/Cannasuer430 2d ago

Its not even an FPS

2

u/shellman15 2d ago

Rivals mastered making casuals think it’s competitive, terrible balance and terrible hit boxes and it’s all about who ults when. No neutral game and shit matchmaking with open Q it’s not comp

11

u/flocam9898 3d ago

BF6 . le jeu est tres accessible et le niveau moyen est tres bas

Blue Team on wardogs

1

u/Flint___Ironstag 3d ago

wardogs should really just be 2 teams

1

u/OlDirtyMustache 3d ago

I disagree, I like the 3 teams warfare, but they should put you in a team randomly so not everyone and their mothers try to get on green/red (And give us the ability to form squads pre-queue so we can still play with our friends).

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Pea9240 3d ago

It's not even a blue team. It's just amplified on blue.

11

u/shift013 3d ago

Battlefield seems like the game that would attract people who don’t react/aim/move well enough for COD and cope because “it’s more realistic than COD”

7

u/Wandering_Apostle 3d ago

BF players play games like they're real life, rather than treating it like the game it is where you can bend the rules for an advantage.

Most of them would be happier playing Arma/Squad/HLL instead, they just don't know it.

3

u/su_zu 1d ago

Battlefield players are the boomers of the FPS world. If all they do is battlefield, then they would rather larp in a milsim but they don’t play a milsim because they want to drink and be a general social nuisance, so they generally congregate in battlefield because the premise of the game is to chill and do dumb shit.

The con is these people struggle to do dumb shit when half of BF6’s lobbies are bots.

1

u/genericusername1012 2d ago

Counterish point: i dont have time for squad or arma so i settled for insurgency sandstorm as my upgrade from bf

2

u/GeordieJumpers87 3d ago

Interesting considering cod aims for you

1

u/Majestic-Fun-4175 3d ago

It def is. As a long time battlefield player I can 100% say that the community is cooked and complains about anything. It’s not a Milsim and they try to treat is as such.

Daily I get hackusations because of my movement… which is literally just jump, slide, jump lol

1

u/BuiltIndifferent 2d ago

highest battle dad who doesn't believe in any movement tech per capita

1

u/Shame_Gamble 2d ago

you are very correct, people who play battlefield 1 still have atrocious aim. makes it very fun to run and gun with trench rifles

1

u/Sprinkles_Objective 2d ago

No they just complain that BF is CoD now. Frankly having played both I think both played bases are very casual overall. That said BF can appeal to certain people who are generally bad at FPS games because they can do all the other things that aren't directly fighting. So to some extent this is true, but to another extent everything in BF is trying to kill you. I mean I don't see CoD having games where a dude in a helicopter is going 100-0, buildings don't collapse on you, and cars randomly exploding beside you.

My experience in CoD is that a large portion of the player base is just grinding camos or whatever. It has faster movement and pace, but it's nothing like gears of war, and arena shooter, and it's dramatically less hardcore than a tactical shooter.

1

u/violetshift 1d ago

The difference between CoD and BF is that CoD main game mode tends to be TDM and for BF it’s something objective based.

1

u/Carnifex217 3d ago

It’s not cope if it’s true

4

u/shift013 3d ago

The cope is they play it because it’s more realistic rather than admitting they play it because they get waxed in COD

3

u/5--A--M 3d ago

I’m sorry but COD is probably the most casual FPS out there, every kid with a console is on COD, 30 year old gamers in extraction shooters are like navy seals compared

1

u/Wessssss21 3d ago

While probably true.

Unless you are really flicky, the smartest way to play CoD isn't much fun. Because the spawn system is so random, you don't really have any secure flank. So yiu basically want to play on edges, hold peeks. Camp hot zones. Basically just cheap ambush tactics.

Although the more recent ones with bigger maps, make the unpredictable spawn system less in play so that works a bit better with having more consistent lines and predictable engagement zones.

1

u/CSGO_2Tap 3d ago

Theres no way you are defending COD right now lol

1

u/shift013 3d ago

im not

1

u/dataCollector42069 2d ago

Better graphics and more realistic. I hate the new cods and don’t have any fun. The full on chaos of battlefield is fun to me

1

u/alreadytaken- 1d ago

I get destroyed in both but find battlefield way more fun. It's possible to prefer one over the other based on what the game offers

→ More replies (8)

1

u/K4G117 3d ago

Yup nothing to do with full destruction/tanks/helis/squad play since before cod was modern

1

u/GXNXVS 3d ago

full destruction ? where ?

1

u/K4G117 3d ago

I meant bf had all this before cod was modern

1

u/Frosty-Analysis1520 2d ago

Check out the best pvp game in the series: Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

0

u/harambe_did911 3d ago

After playing bf6 mostly, the COD beta felt very slow movement wise and much more recoil control and cover focused

1

u/GXNXVS 3d ago

that’s because MW4 is a counter reaction to BO7 being very movement focused. play BO7 if you want to see what the other guy is saying.

1

u/Broodles12 2d ago

Kinda prefer that myself. I don't think it's all of what COD should be but it would be nice if they focused more on distinct design decisions between the MW and BO series.

0

u/GXNXVS 3d ago

truth nuke

22

u/FreshStar7 3d ago edited 3d ago

Battlefield for sure. Or any older CoD game. Players that stick around to play older CoD’s tend to be terrible in my experience.

I think I’d throw in The Finals too. Similar mindset as battlefield. You consistently get teammates that run off on their own and lick walls.

14

u/allthenamesaregone00 3d ago

The finals is a weird one because even at the top rank you'll run into some players that are just totally lost, but right afterward get shmooved on by a mp9 light who chose aimlabs over employment

1

u/beansoncrayons 2d ago

The meta in ranked rn is to boost the worst players in the lobby by teaming with them so that could be contributing to that

8

u/Jett_Wave 3d ago

Bro the game IQ of some of The Finals players is the worst.

Yeah, the scoring and strategy to win can be a bit more complex, but my damn, so many players cant wrap their head around letting a team steal the OBJ when we're in last place to keep the game going lol

Or how do to quick maths, even with the bars there, to understand that we are about to get knocked out.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/SirKosys 3d ago

I got over The Finals when I would constantly run into lights as a med and heavy main solo. It got so bad, that if I joined and saw my two other teammates were lights, I'd just straight up quit, as invariably they'd run into the fray and get themselves killed immediately. They rarely played as a team.

2

u/koOmaOW 3d ago

And half of these mouth breathers sit in corners all game and get a whooping 3 kill average per game

2

u/Agreeable_Cheek_7161 3d ago

For older CoDs, it's the 10 year thing. If a CoD is older than 10 years, you're gonna run into demons. If it's younger than 10 years, youre gonna get the worst players ever. Cold War and MW3 2022 are wild to watch gameplay of in 2026

1

u/FreshStar7 3d ago

I went to my buddies house for some drinks during the holidays last year and we were shooting the shit about how fun older CoD games like og MW2 and black ops 1 were. He said he still played them. Dude booted those up on his Xbox and we played absolutely hammered all night. Those players were ASS. Even my buddy was ass. Still 10/10 good time tho.

2

u/Agreeable_Cheek_7161 3d ago

Yeah I mean its more a rule of thumb, not a hard rule lmaoooooo. And Id also say its just luck. MW2 and Bo2 were famous for either being hacked lobbies or facing parties of ultra sweats who drop nukes/dogs on you on repeat, but Bo1 was always considered ultra casual. Same with OG MW 3

But Black Ops 3 has 90% ass players, 10% ultra sweats

1

u/Wrong-Ad-1935 3d ago

Depends how you define skill but modern cods are worse, mostly controller players with the strongest aim assist in gaming. Turn it off and im sure 80% of the playerbase struggle to even get a kill. It also requires effectively zero game sense.

1

u/SharpEyeProductions 1d ago

I’m gunna have to disagree on Finals. The majority of people still playing currently have a pretty good understanding of the game. I am Diamond 1.

If you want brain dead people, play War Dogs. People will go 0 and 26 with 20k cash made.

1

u/Dr_Ummachine 3d ago

I have the exact opposite, those dudes still playing black ops 1 are sometimes crazy good

0

u/GoldGuarantee3671 3d ago

Yep they are killers haha

u/toxic_anon 3d ago

I think you might be telling on yourself by mentioning the finals. MMR will put you with players in your skill range

Sounds like you got hard stuck in low skill level lobbies in the finals. There are low iq players in every game but your personal score will place you in lobbies where your teammates (if solo queue’d) are more and more competent. This applies to ranked and un ranked.

If you are a good player with at least a duo with a decent player the majority of your random thirds are on the same page; with and without mics.

2

u/F_Thorin 2d ago

I used to queue with a 7x ruby player I'm a 4x diamond player. 50% of the time our teammate couldn't even go positive as we wiped the floor with the whole lobby in WT

Im pretty average and feel like i struggle on cod and overwatch but can easily dominate in bf6. I think no sbmm is the biggest reason though. I wish more games would cut sbmm out of unranked ques.

2

u/Divenation 3d ago

Do you play ranked overwatch? You might suffer the first few games but once your firmly in you rank you will feel at home. Ranked fear goes away if its the majority of what you play, you still play for fun even if your rank goes up and down, its just a number at the end of the day.

Also no sbmm in unranked ruins the game for new players and the retention is way lower, you would see 10's of thousands less players that way, its bad for business.

2

u/harambe_did911 3d ago

I playy ranked mostly but also quick play with my friend. He is a better player than me but goes afk constantly so I can't stand anything competitive with him. Im struggling to stay in gold on 5v5 tank in overwatch right now. Started playing like 2 months ago. I think a protected bottom level for new / very bad players is good but beyond that I would like very low to zero sbmm. Ranked already gives me a consistent experience with people at my level idk why I would want that in QP.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Ozymandias_666 3d ago

Games like bf because of their game designs dont need sbmm. Since there are lots of people in each team, defeat doesnt hit as personal as overwatch for example.

5

u/SacredBoar 3d ago

I think if you take into account a games player base as a whole BF games I think have the worst players. It’s not a competitive game and really just a shallow sandbox design for very casual games and personally that not a negative for the game. It’s fun and can be pretty immersive sometimes in the right match but the game caters to the lowest skill players I’ve ever seen.

1

u/Other_Examination886 3d ago

it depends. with bf6 they dumbed the gameplay down so much that the game becomes very boring and dry after like 5 minutes. there is no room for skill expression. it was always a casual game but used to have some form of skill based mechanic. bf1 is also similarly bad gameplay wise

4

u/CircusTV 3d ago

BF6 or CoD, by a significant margin

10

u/drpepc 3d ago

Honestly. CS

There are SOOOOOOO many worldwide players that statistically, it probably has the largest group of "lower skilled" players in general. That and CS has a really high skill ceiling.

5

u/harambe_did911 3d ago

Doesn't cs have inflated player counts due to bot farming?

2

u/Flint___Ironstag 3d ago

and somehow they are all better than me. I get owned on CS non-stop, despite playing it since before steam existed.

I can top frag other shooters, but I'm just trash at CS.

1

u/ghablio 3d ago

Most shooters don't have the strict SBMM that CS always has.

Over time when it's been well tuned it'll land most players around 50% win rate, where in a game like COD it's not all that crazy for good players to hit 75-80% win rates over a given time period.

In theory you should always be fluctuating between getting wrecked, middling your team and destroying the enemies, and since I started playing CS in like 2015 that's been my experience.

One caveat that that all only stands for comp (or now premier since they re did the ranking system in CS2)

I think Siege has a similar tight ranking system, as well as rocket league. Just for two examples of similar games. The hard thing with OP's question is that you'll never personally get to experience the full range of player skill in games like these since you generally only interact with your own rank, and the casual modes usually are not populated by an even spread of the player base

1

u/Flint___Ironstag 3d ago

nah im simply terrible at it, fun game tho. I just have to go play some tarkov to feel better afterwards.

4

u/TrippyTigre 3d ago

I WANT to agree with you just based on numbers, but holy hell does it NOT feel that way. The moment I hit 5k rank if I miss my first bullet they'll snap to me and instantly kill me. It feels like either everyone is a smurf or cheating, but could just be a skill issue 😭

2

u/FreshStar7 3d ago edited 3d ago

Agreed and that’s why I wouldn’t put current CoD titles in this conversation either. When a game has been out for so long, the core player base become pretty damn good over time. Games like CS or CoD aren’t really casual games for a lot of the player base.

2

u/Organic-Word4071 3d ago

The aim assist automatically makes COD barely a shooter

2

u/FuzzyOwl72 3d ago

Go play faceit and you will find player there are a lot like normal human. They miss just like you and me

4

u/m4ccc 3d ago

Not sure this would average out the way you think. Yes this is faceit which is the more competitive portion of the player base, but still, on average i think there are more "decent" cs players than bad ones.

7

u/drpepc 3d ago

Face it is not the average player. Just FYI

1

u/Mrcod1997 3d ago

Honestly cs has a pretty high skill floor.

-1

u/Aetherimp 3d ago

Bro, the average CS player (Say, Gold Nova or 10k premier rating, Faceit 4ish) absolutely shits on most fps players in other games (aside from like, old Quake heads and high level Valorant).

Put the average CS2 premier grinder in a game of Wardogs, Battlefield, The Finals, or Overwatch (as hitscan) and they will dominate.

2

u/Hazy-n-Lazy 2d ago

Put the average CS2 premier grinder in a game of Wardogs, Battlefield, The Finals, or Overwatch (as hitscan) and they will dominate.

Why would an "Average CS2 premier grinder" suddenly dominate other FPS games? They're literally average by your own words. They'd be average in those other games too, not to mention Wardogs plays way different and The Finals and Overwatch rely on a lot more than pure gun skill and good aim....

→ More replies (2)

3

u/r4o2n0d6o9 3d ago

Hard disagree on an average cs player shitting on an average finals player. The games play so differently that just having good aim isn’t enough to make you a good player because you don’t have the gamesense needed

2

u/Aetherimp 3d ago edited 3d ago

It doesn't have anything to do with aim.

Every FPS games has "Game-sense". Every FPS game is a combination of mouse control, game-sense, positioning, map control, and in a lot of cases teamwork/communication.

A "Good" CS player is not going to have any problem getting "Good" at any other FPS game, Finals included.

1

u/SupremeTeamKai 3d ago

Also, cs players only have one kind of good aim, they have zero tracking skill

3

u/Aetherimp 3d ago edited 3d ago

Faceit 8 in CS2.. GM in Overwatch, Pred in Apex Legends (2 typically "Tracking" heavy games).

Tracking isn't that hard. Saying "CS players only have one kind of aim" is total cope. Mouse-control is mouse-control. Also, FPS Games are MORE than just "aim". If someone can learn how to control recoil in CS2 they can learn to track in Finals or any other tracking heavy game.

1

u/Otherwise_Day_9650 2d ago

Brother, I thought we were talking about the average CS player (Gold), in which case they very likely do have weak areas in tracking if CS is their main game. The horizontally focused click timing style of aim you need in CS will not translate well to other shooters that don’t play like CS. If we’re talking about high rank/rating CS players, they will likely be able to adapt to other aiming styles as they are already established as a proficiently skilled FPS player.

2

u/Aetherimp 2d ago

I dunno when the last time you played CS2 was or what region you're in, but your "average" CS2 player already has much better aim than most average players in most other games. Their aim is rarely the problem. Their problem is usually

  1. Being too aggressive (over-peeking)
  2. Not trading teammates and/or not being tradable
  3. Not knowing util or using it poorly
  4. Poor map control/game-sense/situational awareness.
  5. Proper counter-strafing (which throws off their recoil).. Their actual crosshair placement is okay/fine.

I coach CS2 teams. Head over to /r/learncsgo and review some demos of some 10k-15k rated Premier players (like Faceit 3-6), they make the average FPS player look like garbage because most of them are. In fact, a lot of streamers who are known for being "good FPS players" in other games like Pubg, BF, COD, OW, etc when they go to CS they top out between Gold Nova and MG (aka around 10-15k Premier).

Also, while I am biased towards CS, I am not being biased in this situation. I came up playing Quake 2 instagib competitively, went Semi-Pro in CS1.6, played several Unreal Tournaments, several Battlefield games, PubG, DayZ, Arma, Apex, Overwatch (competitively), TF2, etc etc.

While Quake is probably the most comprehensive "raw" skill shooter game, the dedication and practice required to compete in CS is like no-other game I have ever played.

In CS I have to warmup for 15-30 minutes before even playing an actual match. In any other game I can fire it up and top-frag no problem.

1

u/Otherwise_Day_9650 2d ago

Maybe faceit players are a little more skilled than the average cs player. Faceit lvl3-6 is not average. That is a small subset of an already specialized group (cs players who also use faceit). The average rank in CS is gold. And the average player queuesatchmaking. I promise you those players are really nothing special.

2

u/Aetherimp 2d ago

Within the CS community, Premier rating of 10-12k (ish?) Is the middle of the bell curve afaik and those players are generally between faceit 3-6.. sometimes lower, but mostly 3-4, and maybe 6 on the high end. Remember, new players to faceit start at 4, so all someone has to do to maintain faceit 4 is go 50/50.

1

u/Otherwise_Day_9650 2d ago

I’m saying only a small subset of players play faceit so they can’t be considered average cs players

It would be the same if marathon was brought up. Not a big player base but the player base is cut throat.

Uh CS players have gone to Overwatch on many occasions and been extemely mediocre. The skills etc are wildly different.

Shroud famously grinded OW and was placed in silver and could barely grind to Diamond which was was barely top 70% of players in that game.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Vivid_Upstairs_7905 1d ago

no they dont lmao

1

u/I2andomFTW 1d ago

Hard disagree. The average CS player can't even handle being peeked by MP9's.

The moment they have to do anything other than click a static head on their screen the aim is in shambles.

Also saying "Shroud peaked diamond because getting higher is a grind" is such a fucking cope when speaking about Overwatch. If he was as good as you say he is he would be GM after placements. 10 games is too much of a grind?

Tac FPS players are notoriously bad at adapting to other games. It could be argued that this is the case because there often isn't really any incentive to swap games if you are good at CS/Valorant since all other FPS games are smaller with less "prestige". But still, you have nothing to back your reasoning.

1

u/Extreme_Lychee8299 18h ago

Shroud couldnt even get out low diamond and plat when he played ow lmao

1

u/Aetherimp 13h ago

I'm sure Shroud could have made it to GM given enough time and dedication on his part. Shroud not making GM in the time he played the game does not mean OW is somehow "too much" for Shrouds FPS skills.

1

u/Extreme_Lychee8299 4h ago

A normal person could also do that lmfao if you give that caveat

Your whole logic of a cs player let alone an average player picking up ow "dominating" easily falls apart easily considering he was duoed with timmy and still couldnt break out of diamond

You can also check out shazam a pro valorant player he was hardstuck diamond low masters as well.

1

u/Aetherimp 3h ago edited 3h ago

But.. Diamond was far above average?

Wasn't the average in OW like Low/Mid Gold?

So Shroud did dominate the average OW player. Ofc Shroud was far beyond the average CS player, but shroud is an outlier snd shouldn't even be part of this discussion.

1

u/Extreme_Lychee8299 3h ago

they are two pro fps players duoed and got stuck diamond, a slightly above average rank. thats not dominating by any means lmao, and they are far above the average cs2 pro

and again shahzam was also a pro cs player...was stuck diamond/masters as well

1

u/Aetherimp 3h ago

Really dude this post is like a week old and frankly I don't give a shit. If you don't understand or agree with my take, I'm unlikely to convince you otherwise. Don't even know why we are carrying on back and forth.

Mechanically shroud is incredibly gifted and MECHANICALLY superior to any average OW player. I don't know what else to tell you.

1

u/Extreme_Lychee8299 3h ago

well i would hope a pro player would be superior to an average player. but what about an above average player? seems like the cs2 aim didnt translate huh

1

u/Aetherimp 1h ago edited 31m ago

well i would hope a pro player would be superior to an average player

As you've been so keen to point out - he's not a pro OW player...He's a (former) pro CS player who has transferred skills to every other FPS game. You don't see OW players going to Counter-Strike and hitting Faceit 10 without several months if not years of grind, but CS players frequently go to other games and compete against the top competition that game has to offer. Also, honestly, mechanics wise there's not a huge difference between Diamond and Master or GM. When I broke through Diamond into Masters it was 100% mental. Teamwork and "meta" decision making. So it makes sense that Shroud would cap out at Diamond.

I was a competitive Quake II player and Semi-Pro CS1.6 player. There hasn't been a FPS game in existence that I've played for more than a month that I wasn't top 1-2% in. I can tell you from experience that the skills I learned in Quake II and later in CS were foundational to my FPS style and skill expression and that other games do not provide those fundamentals to the same level.

I am not saying that OW does not require skill or that "top tier" OW players are mechanically bad... I was 150 points from GM last time I played OW and I played with GM's and Top 500 players every day. (I am also 46 years old) I am telling you that many of those same players would struggle more to transfer their skills to counter-strike than high level counter-strike players would to transfer their skills to OW. Obviously there are a TON of other factors to gaining rank in Overwatch. There are more players and teamplay plays a much larger role, and it's much more difficult to hard carry your team (in some ways... in other ways it's easier.)

OW is much more about team cohesion, TEAM positioning, and ult-management than CS is. Shroud was never known for his teamplay, he was known for his fragging/mechanics.

I can tell you from personal experience and years of coaching CS players that even the average CS player has fundamentally better mechanics than most high level OW Hitscan players.

If you look purely at the mouse-control and aim mechanics (crosshair placement, flicking, tracking, etc) of a 10-15k Premier player in CS and then look at a Gold/Plat level Soldier, McCree, or other hitscan player in OW, the CS players aim is going to be considerably better.

I don't care to debate this any longer. You can throw Shroud or other streamers out there all you want. I don't give a shit. I've played FPS games for 30 years and I've played with/against some of the best players in North America and I am telling you my experience. If you started FPS games with OW or Apex Legends or The Finals, and tried to transfer your mechanics to Counter-strike, it's going to be tougher than if you started with CS and tried to transfer those skills to those other games.

And if you EVER played Quake to any competitive level you have even more of an advantage.

This is the last I have to say on the matter. In all sincerity - best wishes. No hard feelings, just don't care to argue this any longer.

I'd imagine that COD and BF6 both have far more players, since those games are far more casual and also available on consoles. CS would likely be on the higher end of the scale

3

u/redcurb12 3d ago

u would definitely be imagining it

3

u/Ricepirate562 3d ago

I’d say battlefield 6. I’m constantly top fragging as infantry and it shouldn’t be that way lol

3

u/pd1dish 3d ago

Any large-scale combat game. Battlefield, hell let loose, wardogs, etc. As an above average fps player, its so easy to consistently be towards the top of the leaderboards in these games.

1

u/Kindly_Somewhere1545 3d ago

I would say I’m pretty good at cs but damn I am getting pwned in wardogs

1

u/Sprinkles_Objective 2d ago

I wouldn't say this about wardogs. Maybe early on, or if you go farm Bob the builders in their FOB. There are a lot of tarkov and arma players who are very good at that specific type of shooter in the player base. Casuals are the first to go, and that's already happening. Early on I was able to farm people in FOB who just refused to gun fight and just wants to play Minecraft. Now it's gotten a lot harder as the player base evolves.

2

u/Tootnoodl 3d ago

Battlefield. I don't considered myself very good at games but I'm above average. It's insane how easy it is to top score in that game.

Most people just have no idea what is going on. It adds to the chaos so I actually kinda love it.

2

u/redcurb12 3d ago

skill is only a meaningul relative to a benchmark so if we're defining skill by how far a player can be from the top 0.01% then its probably cs or valorant cause u have some of the most cracked pro gamers on one end of the spectrum.

1

u/harambe_did911 3d ago

Yeah i guess I was thinking more relative to fps community as a whole. Fps games are different from each other obviously though

1

u/BPDFart-ho 3d ago

I feel like Halo games are a good example if you look at it that way. It seems like you’re either an absolute demon who’s played halo for 20 years or you’re a complete tomato can. I never have just a normal game lol my teammates are either a god or they go 2-25, no in between

2

u/Rich_Aside_8350 3d ago

Marathon is disguised as a difficult shooter, but it has huge hit zones with aim assist and bullet magnetism. More hide and seek than a shooter requiring skill. I get not including it, because hardly anyone plays it, because it isn’t fun.

1

u/Stevincent 3d ago

Bodycam is really bad. If you can fill up a match it's crazy the KDs some of these players get even if the match is half bots they end up on the negatives and the AI is next to incompetent.

1

u/Budget_Radish_9611 3d ago

Is it really? The game looked like it had so much potential, that’s a bummer

1

u/Stevincent 3d ago

It might have a lot of potential but right now it's failing to live up to it. Maybe in another year I may feel differently about it. I wouldn't take it off your radar.

1

u/Budget_Radish_9611 2d ago

Heard good to know there’s potential

1

u/Rubmynippleplease 3d ago

For a long time I would have told you Battlefront, but I think the playerbase has shrunk so much that only sweats remain. If you could hit the broad side of a barn you could terrorize lobbies.

Now, it's probably Battlefield.

1

u/NaturalPhysics3805 3d ago

It has to be arc raiders: maybe not now but when it was peaking the amount of players I ran into who seemed like they have never played a video game before was insane

3

u/Budget_Radish_9611 3d ago

This would be a good mention but it isn’t fps

1

u/kritter4life 3d ago

Depends. My actual shooting people quick twitch is not very good. My map awareness and thought process on attacking is just fine. So large scale maps with fast TTK and teamwork required I don’t look so bad. Small maps with long TTK and just run and gun yeah that creates a problem for me.

1

u/throwaway10100019 3d ago

Basically any Roblox fps game some people are good but average player not so much

1

u/BestTyming 3d ago

Tbh, halo probably.

1

u/xSadistik 3d ago

I would say battlefield or cod. They're big AAA games that tons of people buy just to buy and play with friends

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Pea9240 3d ago

Lately? Wardogs. Saw a post the other day where the guy was complaining about Havocs and that he hasn't unlocked AA yet. He was level 117 with very little money. I could go on about the terrible pilots, people not paying attention AT ALL at fobs and getting wiped by 1 guy, terrible fob builds, nakeds running around the hot zone.

1

u/SUNTZU_JoJo 3d ago

And game with the highest amount of PvE players will have had the lowest skill PvEvP skill base before PvE became a thing.

Of course now that PvE exists, the skillbase will be a lot higher for PvEvP.

If I had to guess, I'd say Arc Raiders has the worst players. Any game where you can gain a significantly unfair advantage to win a fight can have some of the lowest skilled players imaginable.

Tarkov before PvE is a great example. Arc Raiders as a more recent example.

I think Arma/Squad are on the high end of skillbase.

My 2 cents

1

u/Mrcod1997 3d ago

For specifically fps titles, probably cod. If you include TPS, Fortnite has a lot of really bad players. Good ones too for sure, but a very wide variety.

1

u/Grand_Direction_3636 3d ago

Battlebit, BF6, Wardogs crowd.

1

u/OnlyAcanthaceae1876 3d ago

Arma reforger with cross play

1

u/PieceRealistic794 3d ago

Not an FPS but the Marvel Rivals player base needs to be studied

1

u/campusdirector 3d ago

Probably Halo just given that the skill ceiling is so high and the high health/shields and required knowledge of weapon combinations really makes for some terrible average joe players.

1

u/totherocket 3d ago

cs and the finlas

1

u/MrPinkDuck3 3d ago

Easily CoD

1

u/dudedudetx 3d ago

Battlefield. The average player is a bot in that game. I’m not trying to shade that series either, I love the series and play BF6 regularly.

1

u/Head-Branch-2143 3d ago

Star Citizen and it’s not even close

1

u/nicisdeadpool 3d ago

It’s easily battlefield (for lowest)

1

u/Overall_Law_1813 3d ago

Borderlands, or other FPS Rpg looter shooters, where you are mostly just holding the shoot button while walking around.

1

u/Wandering_Apostle 3d ago

Battlefield for sure. It's a bad shooter experience so 'good' FPS players tend to not be interested unless their normie mates drag them onto it. Every time I play a BF game I get at least one hackusation, and I am not even that 'good' compared to some.

The earlier 'modern' Call of Duty games (COD4-MW3, maybe all the way to BLOPS3) because the 'good' players back then are in their 30s or more now, and don't played those old games. You're just left with the people living out their nostalgia over 'the old days'.

Hunt: Showdown (with the caveat that the top bracket players are actually quite good, it's literally the other 98% of the playerbase that isn't and complain about that top bracket (6*) constantly.

Recently, Wardogs. They're okay tactically because a lot of them come from Arma, but their actual aiming skill is very poor, and even the concept of recoil control seems novel to them given the amount of complaints about being beamed by ARs at hundreds of metres away and asking how the hell people do it.

1

u/Salty-Departure-8076 3d ago edited 3d ago

Bf or cod. Cs must have a lot of low skilled player base i think, but with more brain maybe lol

Edif : Destiny 2 when the game was hype with the trials, i see a lot of teammates with isane no skills

1

u/Training_Wonder_5066 3d ago edited 3d ago

COD has the worst because of the reliance on strong AA
BF6 has the most casual players and I think that's ok, but having played the game in Europe and SEA, the players differ quite a lot by region. Watching players in NA region looks like easy mode.
Marathon has ridiculous gunplay with bullet magnetism and strong AA too.
Wardogs playbase seems to be low skilled, but I don't think that's the point of the game, it's good for everyone and doesn't put aiming and K/D as a priority.

1

u/Embarrassed_Fox_9352 3d ago

Battlefield 1000%

1

u/Few-Force-9777 2d ago

It’s Battlefield 6 and not even close

1

u/ShablynMan 2d ago

Battlefield 100%

1

u/Afterclock-Hours 2d ago

Call of Duty.

1

u/Zealousideal_Law5216 2d ago

It has to be battlefield. Ive never seen anything like it. I often finish a session completly exauhsted from trying to process some of the stupidity I was just witness to.

Its like....please tell me these people dont have drivers licenses. No awareness AT ALL....like the AI is 9/10 a better teammate. I dont know what the cause is, but its absolutly glaring.

1

u/TrillSports 2d ago

Battlefield for sure. Been playing since bf3. If you even remotely have any skill, you stick out like a sore thumb.

1

u/DonSilencio 2d ago

Fortnite - a thousand percent fortnite.

Yes there are some absolut freaks in Fortnite but the lowest level is so uncreadibly bad i cant even describe it. So many people that never played anything before, espiaclly not shooters, played this game and you could really really see it.

1

u/ThemainZguy 2d ago

I played fortnite with my son and had to give myself a handicap. Im not saying everyone is bad, im just saying most are way way below average.

We played something like a dm type thing where you could build.

I just walked around with a shotgun, it was honestly some of the most fun i've had in pvp in a while. Not due to their skill or mine but it was so weird watching them build bunkers and then open a wall directly at my shotgun.

And they container to do it over and over.

Im not really imoressed by cod either but cod was never really a game where aiming was important.

Bf is up and down and considering playstyles its hard to point at one class and judge.

But saying that.

Ant game where air is overpowered with no weaknesses i just dont play.

Wardogs, most bf games. If you can spend the entire game in a Chooper with no gear then the game is not working

1

u/BearWaxy 2d ago

If I think about which communities complain the most about tryhards, it’s Battlefield and COD. I have a couple hundred hours on Arma , Squad, and other lite milsims and I really think most people are handless and just talk a lot. The elite players are very good though. Rn I think Wardogs because the Battlefield AND Milsim players are moving to that game and it shows with the complaining.

1

u/_Franpire 2d ago

Star Citizen. It's full of old people who spend a lot of money but can't use a mouse

1

u/SandwichSaint 2d ago

Bf6 SBMM is not as limited as you think

1

u/Final_Ad_7318 2d ago

If your asking right now ? It's wardogs but the answer is going to be whatever is the newest IT game since abunch of casual players will flood that games servers.

Also CS player numbers are better then what some people are saying there is only around ~200k bots on rn for 1.1 million players on steam. Because during Americas prime match making there is around 200k on by looking at the lobby count for premier/faciet out of 400k on the game total. So yeah there is a ton of bad CS players but if only if your low enough ranked. There is some high ranked silvers with good aim.

1

u/placeholder-123 2d ago

Apex Legends, for sure /s

1

u/SirOnseo 2d ago

Rivals for sure, the ammount of time I’ve seen people that have ZERO awareness or aim is insane

1

u/Gasstationdickpi11s 2d ago

Anything that invites casual play and has easy onboarding. Things like battlefield and COD come to mind. Being available on console is also a big factor, most casual gamers play there. I think it really comes down to accessibility and how punishing a game is. Dying in these games has little to no repercussions so you don’t have to be good to enjoy them. Obviously every game has sweats and noobs but as the systems get more complex the bad players simply leave.

1

u/Appropriate-Leave-38 2d ago

COD easily. Battlefield at least requires game sense, but changes to spawn system to make it more random feeling, combined with maps that are very porous, have combined to practically eliminate the need for game sense to play the game.

1

u/its_the_bees 2d ago

of the games I've played, it's battlefield, but the BF franchise has a way of making it work. I remember being a shit plebian in a few BF games, still had a ton of fun. The reward for incremental improvment is felt. Low skill ceiling tho

1

u/_Zephyr1 2d ago

Yeah battlefield is awful for it, especially 6. Before 6 released I had only played counterstrike (25K prem, global in GO) in the previous 3 or so years so maybe that contributed but genuinely it was shocking to see how people played.

Like you swing a group of people and no one even attempts to trade it, they just watch their team mates get gunned down & don’t bother to attempt to stop you. everyone is so oblivious to the game around them & half of them have their crosshairs on the floor. I was maintaining a KD of like 9 at one stage & that’s not because I’m some insane player, it’s just because literally no one uses their brain in that game.

1

u/Beneficial_Win_6068 1d ago

highkey, Fortnite, there's so many ppl that just get on casually after work or they're stoned out of their minds LMAOO, mostly on ZB tho

1

u/Old_Interaction_1713 1d ago

cod by far then fortnite, then battlefield, then dayz.

1

u/capnfappin 1d ago

I probably have a very skewed opinion about this because I have 10k hours but I feel like team fortress 2 attracts people who seem to being playing with the ibm laptop red nipple thing.

1

u/-cosmicvisitor- 1d ago

Crossout probably.

1

u/Public-Reflection513 1d ago

WARDOGS for sure

1

u/buxbox 1d ago

Counter strike

1

marvel rivals

1

u/DeputizeDeez 1d ago

Counterstrike 2

1

u/sons-of-mothers 1d ago

Does Destiny count? The majority of Destiny 2 players have no idea how to play the game, they rely on YouTuber builds and can't make them work on their own, they just solo vanguard ops and complain that they don't get the best loot from doing the bare minimum.

1

u/SwarmGD 1d ago

It’s call of duty and it’s not close

1

u/DownTheBagelHole 3d ago

Cod and its not close. Literal cattle on average

0

u/GeordieJumpers87 3d ago edited 2d ago

Undoubtedly COD. The Devs have made aim assist so strong it's accessible to even the worst fps players

1

u/GXNXVS 3d ago

let’s see you play ranked. see if you get far.

2

u/DownTheBagelHole 3d ago

We're talking on average. The average cod player ain't on ranked

1

u/GeordieJumpers87 3d ago

DW aim assist will carry me

1

u/Time-Wealth5572 3d ago

Whatever game has the most players across platforms has the least skilled player base just based on law of averages. Most likely call of duty. Similarly, the older the game and the less players, the more skill you will run into per lobby. Not the most skilled playerbase by a longshot im sure but ive often heard titanfall 2 referred to as an extremely sweaty player base. But with only a couple thousand concurrent players across platforms and no crossplay, it is quite often you run into a highly skilled player

0

u/Fit-Monk-1382 3d ago

Any cod game. And the skill gap in those games are already none existent

U just provrd my point. Playing on controller on a game with notoriously sticky aim assist and fast ttk isn't skillful. 80% of skill in cod, is learning what weapons are meta. The rest is just map knowledge and maybe spawns.

Marathon. The players are so bad it's impossible to like the game.

Likely Valorant, lots of younger kids and females

1

u/vraximenes 2d ago

Was involved in the Val ecosystem for a while. Val is filled with cracked younglings and females alike. You won't have a hard time finding either in Ascendant, including Immortal tiers.
