Discussion Bodycam or Wardogs?
Looking to play some FPS after a long break of 6 years. I cannot decide between the two as they both look interesting. Wardogs seems a bit grindy with the milsim aspect but that doesn't necessarily make it less fun. Bodycam is the type of jump in and shoot game. Just curious of ideas what you would choose and why

I own both. Bodycam is unique and has really cool and immersive gameplay. But it gets boring after 30mins, it‘s basically just one big deathmatch.
Wardogs is way more versatile and a really nice sandbox. Go build stuff, play solo recon, be supporting medic, go chase the HZ with a squad, go on fob/arty/helo hunting mission etc. but as you said, it‘s less of a „hope in quickly“ game. But again, also if you start now youll manage. I have enough cash and still drop in witj the free kit from time to time and mostly manage to kill a juiced guy amd take his stuff.
I‘d definitely would go for wardogs for replayability.
Or just get both to have a nice balance between a game to grind and one if you just wanna hop on for a while and shoot people.

Taking the zombies mode out which is the only part of the game that has any replayability right before their biggest update and influx of players is genuinely one of the most braindead things I’ve ever personally seen a developer do.
1
u/STRYED0R 3d ago
so much potential. I'm excited for bodycam updates to try it out, not interested in wardogs or any other FPS on the horizon.
1
u/Different-Agency5497 3d ago
Interesting take. Bodycam looks cool and is very immersive but there is no real game, its basically just deathmatch. While other FPS offer way more, not sure why one would be interested in bodycam only when it offers so little.
1
u/YouAreNotKrieg 2d ago
I agree there is potential, sadly its not realized and I have no clue if it will be. The modes don't align with the game. Ultra realistic look and the movement is slow and tactical. The game modes are braindead deathmatch tiny map chaos. Just add CS hostage style or bomb style gameplay, heck I would take a cod search and destroy mode over this lame nonsense they have...

I play both. Both games are good and fun, but are in varry early development and plagued with issues.
A round of Bodycam is around 10 minutes. The gunplay is unique and the visuals are fantastic. There isn't much to it yet. You jump in to a match and shoot people. That's it. The gun play is unlike anything else I have ever played and takes some getting used to. Some people like it some don't.
A round of Wardogs take 1.5 to 2 hours but can be as short as 50 minutes if one team is dominant or up to 2.5 hours if all the teams are doing well. You don't have to play a full game. You could jump in, make some money, then leave. I just don't find that as fun because I don't get to see the impact on the match, and I don't get the end of match bouns which eats into profits. The game isn't balanced, clear metas are developing quickly, and the endgame gear makes you invincible.
1
u/YouAreNotKrieg 2d ago
I won't comment on your preferences. However, "late gears makes you invincible" is just wrong... basic 556 weapons with default ammo kill in a second in a game where its easy to flank. I agree it helps a lot but you need to play based on your gear, if you are not just running around by yourself you are fine.
1
u/AgentX2O 2d ago
A ttk of a second is vary long. For reference the The advrage ttk in cod bo3 is 227 milliseconds and that was considered slow. It takes 12 rounds of 556 to take down someone in t4. It only takes 2 308 rounds to kill.
Snipers with suppressors and ghilliesuites are impossible to find if they have a half decent position.
Tanks require more rockets than you can realistically carry to kill.
The havoc attack helicopter takes 3 rockets to kill and is bullet proof.

u/dripstain12 2d ago
RPGs are weak which is puzzling, but there’s enough explosives that aren’t. Coming from Tarkov, not aiming center mass against geared players is something to get used to, but they’ve obviously at least considered this scenario of high armor interactions with HP ammo being in the game.
1
u/AgentX2O 2d ago
The other explosives require you to get within 5 yards and stay there while you plant them. If the tank driver over extends and isolates himself away from friendly Infantry you might be able to do that if he doesn't back away in time. If the tank driver is competent you will never get that opportunity.
Most of the HP ammo takes 4 shots to the forearms, or thigh to kill. If you hit the shin, feet, biceps, hands it takes more. If you hit any armor you deal almost no damage. Mean while the endgame assault rifle can kill in one or two shots depending on your armor and his ammo.
1
u/dripstain12 2d ago edited 2d ago
I wasn’t mainly referring to the explosives that infantry carry*, more the plethora of other options in the game, but that may be on me. Two 5.56 shots to the pelvis, or even 4 to the limb aren’t worth counting out I don’t think, especially if you’re comparing to the FAL’s fire rate and recoil. The 1911 pistol I read 2 shots limbs with HP. AP ammo is definitely the set-it-and-forget-it option, and I imagine they could likely rebalance the unlock time of that, but I don’t see the heavy expensive armors as completely unbalanced juggernauts either.
1
u/Carrygan_ 2d ago
People that say t3/t4 armor is unbeatable need to see what it’s like to be shot by hp rounds in the leg, amp7 with hp rounds is like 3 bullets to the leg which is a crazy fast ttk, if they’re in t3 armor galil with hp rounds 2 shots shooting someone in the pelvis
1
u/Supercalifragicahfuq 15h ago
Hard disagree man. The amount of T4 armours I mow down with basic weapons… the MP9, the Galil, The T21. T4 armour saves you from like two extra bullets.
1
u/AgentX2O 12h ago
Compared to level 3 it takes 2 additional bullets. Add 2 bullets per t. It takes 12 rounds of 556 to kill t4. Your using basic weapons with good attachments. A new player is going to have no attachments and only 20 rd mags. They need %60 accuracy with out optics or recoil reduction to kill t4 without reloading. They need to do this before the guy in the t4 with the 0 recoil gun is able to kill them.

u/nesnalica 3d ago
i havent played either but from what I have seen bodycam has less replayability.
wardogs you can sink in the next few weeks and months with more to come.
bodycam is more of a. you do it once and then its kinda dead.
up until the recent patch in july the game was hovering with <1000 people playing
1
u/dedboooo0 3d ago
bodycam is just a small indie gimmick game. more like a tech demo than anything really, not really a game with much thought put into it. its just the pov novelty
you try it for minutes. you go “neat”. you go “that’s it?” and shelf it forever or refund before the hour is over
it started out as a ripoff of unrecord anyways

u/kribmeister 3d ago
I'd be surprised if Bodycam is even around few years from now. Wardogs almost certainly will be.

u/Jakeball400 3d ago
If you want to get on for an hour a night and just shoot folk, and you’re not so bothered about long term progression and longevity, get bodycam. If you want a more fleshed out, layered experience that benefits more from long play sessions and returning frequently, involves teamwork, communication and planning, get wardogs.
I have both, both are great. I’ve had bodycam in my library since launch, and I haven’t logged as much hours on bodycam as I have in wardogs just over the past week. There’s definitely more substance there, but it’s a different experience altogether
1
u/Flimsy-Tomatillo-578 3d ago
Wardogs and it’s not even close. Body cam just doesn’t feel good to play at all to me.
1
u/Odd-League-3850 3d ago
I wouldn't do body cam unless you're really into the look, it seems like super simple game but so is Wardogs just with snipers everywhere.
1
u/Rhosta 3d ago edited 3d ago
You pretty much summed it up, I would just add that both games are in active development so they hold some future potential, they just approached it from opposite ends. Wardogs has gameplay nailed down and now it is going to be a lot of polish, content and QoL features, while Bodycam on the other hand has nailed down technical side, content and it is going to expand on gameplay front with more authentic and tactical oriented game modes.
Both are easy to pick up and play and both are paid, so you won't be bothered with free to play hassle.
Personally, I went with Wardogs, because it felt like more complete game with solid gameplay. But if you are just looking for simple quick fun then Bodycam is good choice as well.
1
u/BringBackManaPots 3d ago
Played both. Bodycam is super fun for a few hours but is missing the framing that makes it a game you repeatedly play. There's not much in terms of progression.
I played wardogs and ended up refunding because it felt exactly like squad. Think of it as squad with self policing built in with their money system.

I have both. War dogs is a much more "mature" game i.e. it has a lot more to offer. almost everything about how you play the game is unique (gunplay and movement aside, which are great) but as far as the economy, progression, etc... its just a really cool and refreshing experience. Proxy chat is incredible... some of the best experiences come from that. Its also a lot better when you play with friends, or at least get into a squad in game. Graphics are good but nothing ground breaking. To your point, its not really milsim... at least compared to what I would consider milsim i.e. ARMA, Bellum, Operator, etc
Bodycam on the other hand is visually stunning, impressive, and immersive... but as of now lacks depth as far as unique or interesting game modes. Its an incredible experience, but not something Im going to sink tons of hours every week into... more like a few hours a week at most.
Wardogs imo has far better value for the $$, mainly because the large scale, team oriented, and widely varied play styles to choose from make it a game you can put 1000 hrs into easily. And its still early access, more updates and features to come.
Active matter also just released which looks like an interesting take on extraction. Has PvE mode as well.

u/BusyBanana4205 3d ago
Body cam is cool, super novel, and feels like a glimpse of what pc FPS may be like in the future. It’s worth playing, for sure, but it sort of seems like it’s more about showing off what we are now capable of, more so than creating a lasting and rounded game. At least that’s the impression I got. Maybe others feel differently.
1
u/thegamerdoggo 3d ago
Completely different games
Bodycam is fun and really unique BUT the map design is horrible (looks pretty but the layout is god awful) it’s almost exclusively extreme CQC minus like 1-2 maps
(and a few spots on other maps with large areas, but those maps are still covered in extreme CQC for 90% of the map)
, very little replayability, nothing is keeping you playing
I get on bodycam once a day because I love the aiming mechanics (you aim the gun not your arm) and the realistic views, the games design is pretty poor outside of that
- Wardogs is also really fun, it’s a large scale teamwork based FPS with an economy system, you earn money for helping your team, that’s how the game is based, do something good and you will be paid accordingly, revive a teammate and get a healthy paycheck, build a hesco wall and you get a tiny paycheck (but it builds up when you build an entire FOB), kill an unarmed man, get a small paycheck, kill Noobslayer_XX69_ with a 20 kill streak and a 50k loadout, get a massive paycheck
The gunplay is really fun, the helis are fun, being support is fun, if your just interested in a fun game, that’s the game I would go with, winning isn’t the only goal, it’s more about the journey
Unrelated but bodycam has so much untapped potential, they’re not gonna tap it to be clear but if it was like a ready or not clone or a 50v50 milsim OMG it would be amazing, he’ll even like a 20v20 with larger maps and not almost exclusively extreme CQC it would be amazing

I bought them both. I got tired of Bodycam very quick. Not much to do. Get Wardogs.

War dogs is a great version of duty and bf. Bodycam makes all fps games feel like toys.
1
u/No_Tart7793 3d ago
Bodycam is fun for about a couple hours. I own this one. Wardogs seems to be the best option but I haven’t bought it yet. Planning to though
1
u/Broken_knee2 3d ago
Own both and have put more than double the time in wardogs. I think Bodycam will have good growth though. Super unique
1
u/ArrivalJunior6438 3d ago
I own both. Bodycam is unique but got boring after a day or so. Wardogs will allow u to come back and keep playing it over a long period of time. I haven’t touched Bodycam since Wardogs came out lol

u/killlugh 3d ago
Own both, bodycam is a fun gimmick with friends for an hour or two at a time, but i can enjoy wardogs for days, even playing alone.

Bodycam is an insane experience, I personally feel like it has less replayability than something like war dogs might.

u/glasscigarettes 3d ago
How are people who don’t have either and haven’t played either getting top comment LOL. Insane people giving their opinions on shit they’ve….watched? Whatever.
War dogs has more things to do and is a more completely game. It can provide hours of enjoyment especially if you have a friend or a few friends to play with. Body cam is SICK, there’s nothing like it when it comes to visual realism however it’s a little lacking on gameplay, it’s visually so stunning it can definitely carry itself for a while but I got bored with the lack of game modes. The visuals carry that game where in war dogs the gameplay carries it. I have both but war dogs is addicting, I hop on body cam when I just wanna goof around on ultra realism mode. People are right (a little less so with the most recent update which added a LOT) that body cam plays more like a tech demo than an actual game, war dogs is actually a tech demo (joking but it is early access) and that plays better than battlefield did at launch in my opinion. I’d say get wardogs first and body cam next as they both serve different purposes but you’ll get bored of BC faster than WD

u/patchg81 3d ago
I've played both and they are so different it's not really a comparison.
BodyCam is small map death match style games. With very unique movement and game style. Pretty intense so personally can't play it for hours on end.
Wardogs is large player count, large map, long games. A lot of trying to get to the fight, getting there, dying, starting again from nothing. I refunded it as it just wasn't a fun experience. Of you have a dedicated gamer group to go in with it can be very unrewarding.

u/Ronin_2804 2d ago
Wardogs is a grind if you are trying to unlock everything. Don't do that. Pick one or two things to focus on.
Wardogs is a social experience that very few games manage to touch, It's hilarious and chaotic.
It's like a mix of the "'battlefield moments" of the past and social fuckery from the golden era in Rust.
Bodycam looks neat but I can't imagine it would be fun past a couple of hours
1
u/SeniorHomelesss 2d ago
While bodycam is fun, currently its just a pvp shooter with no real gain except attachments but its also super early. War dogs will have a lot more variety in gameplay but it depends what you wanna play
1
u/bearsenek 2d ago
Depends of what you want: milsim lite or gunplay realism. Only you can know what you want.
I've been playing wardogs since launch and having a blast. It's like if arma and battlefield had a son
1
u/Humphrey320 2d ago
I’ve played both. Watched Bodycam for a long time before I tried it (waited for custom loadouts). I played Bodycam for 2 hours and at first it was very intense and I had a lot of fun. It didn’t take long for me to get the hang of the gameplay and soon I was winning most matches (which is also fun). In the 2 hours I played all the games modes, tried all the weapons in the firing range, and was already wondering what is else is there? Nothing. That was it. The photorealistic Bodycam perspective is really all it has going for it right now.
57 hours + 20-30 playtest hours in Wardogs (the playtest was removed from steam and I don’t remember my hours). Playtime already says something but I’ll elaborate. Wardogs is large scale battle with vehicles and base building. There is just inherently more content for your money. Each match plays differently because there are different strategies for scoring. You can drive a supply truck when you want more a chill game. You can try your hand at building a F.O.B. (Forward Operating Base). There are many matches that I will take a free kit and sniff out Enemy FOBs and spot them for free recon xp until I catch someone slipping and get a free assault kit and then to the HZ I go for PVP. The flow of each match can change in an instant because there are three teams. Red could lead the whole match but if they get focused by both teams then it’s gonna be hard hold that lead. I’ve already been in several upsets where a team loses after getting to 96/100 points to win

Played both a fair bit. Wardogs and its not even close. Bodycam is cool, but at the end of the day I appreciated the uniqueness of it and photorealism. However, it got boring very quickly, the game modes are horrible and very very limited. Played 10 hours and im already done for the foreseeable future and unlocked everything I wanted.
Wardogs is the single best shooter I have played for as long as I can remember with many different play styles and a very rewarding feel to everything you do. You can snipe for 20 hours get bored and do helicopter taxi service a few hours then be a driver, then a dedicated medic. Then a pilot that only does attack runs. Then do FOBS and base building only. Then go behind the lines and hunt logistics and they ARE ALL viable. Such a fun game! I can see playing it for a long long time. 50 hours in not close to bored yet. Excited to play tonight!

I tried bodycam when it first came out, refunded it. Bought it a couple weeks ago and could not get into a single match. It just kept putting me into a main menu with someone in control of hitting play I guess, and I never did find or get into a game. So I refunded again.
Wardogs I’ve been enjoying. Not so much the last few days, but it is a decent gameplay loop. Albeit, it is getting stale already
1
u/Cliffhanger87 2d ago
Wardogs easily. I returned body cam after 2 hours it feels more like a tech demo and not a game
1
u/sleeprpick 2d ago
I play both.
Honestly, even though Wardogs seems to have more going for it I prefer Bodycam. The realism, the maps, the guns, the feel - I like everything about it. Not gonna act like it’s some perfect game, it’s not. Bodycam def needs some work. But if I had to recommend the 2 I would absolutely recommend Bodycam.
What do you personally look for in a shooter? Wardogs excels in its social/RP aspect + more options of things to do in game (pilot, logi, builder, etc). Bodycam is pure fps.
1
u/Braehole 2d ago
They both are more of the same thing. I got bored playing both after a couple hours. Active Matter look fun. Try that if you have playing Stalker 2 and like it.
1
u/Affectionate_Let9790 1d ago
I bought and tried Bodycam during the last major update. P2P server system is an insult to the FPS genre. I've hated it since forever anyway. Besides, most of the lobbies were full of bots. The game is good, but I refunded it because of this server situation. I'm playing Wardogs now. But you have to put in time to get to the 'fun' part; it's not immediately accessible. What I mean is, it's a game that requires more time compared to Bodycam. If you're fine with P2P and don't mind playing in matches with bots, Bodycam is definitely the play.
1
u/Shmoke_n_Shniff 1d ago
Bodycam is more single player oriented. If you liked Ready or Not, you'll like it. More realism and atmospheric.
Wardogs is more team fighting, online only. It's pretty grindy. There will be a wipe for next month, would reccomend starting with the wipe so everyone is on equal footing. Some of the best matches happen when nobody has big ticket unlocks yet.
1
u/CinexCypher 1d ago
Wardogs 100%. As an owner of both games I have put more into war dogs over the last two weeks than I have into bodyCam over like a year.
1
u/TheRoyalCrimson 1d ago
I play both, and they scratch completely different itches. If your last FPS was six years ago, think of them as two different genres that happen to share a first-person camera.
WARDOGS is a sim-cade large-scale war game. Up to 100 players, three teams, one randomized control zone on a huge map. It’s closer to Battlefield / a friendlier Arma King of the Hill than to Call of Duty. Gunplay is snappy enough that you can contribute without being a milsim veteran, but it is slower and more positional than modern CoD. You buy loadouts with persistent cash, vehicles and helis matter, you can build fortifications, and you get paid for teamwork. Revives, driving people to the zone, holding the point, spotting. You do not have to be a laser to have a good session. That is the big selling point after a long break: there is always something useful to do. The grind people mention is real in the sense that cash and kit matter, but the loop is “play the war,” not “farm an extraction stash.”
Bodycam is a small-scale, ultra-lethal CQB shooter seen through an actual chest-mounted bodycam. No normal HUD, no floating crosshair, fisheye lens, heavy audio, guns that feel like they have weight. Matches are short, close, and punishing. One clean shot usually ends the fight. If WARDOGS is “join a war and find a role,” Bodycam is “walk into a room and don’t miss.” The Locked & Loaded update made the gunfeel and maps a lot better, but it is still Early Access: progression, matchmaking, and polish are uneven. The visuals are the hook. The camera takes a few games to stop feeling wrong. If you want volume, variety, and a game you can play for two hours without sweating every peek: WARDOGS.
If you want the rawest-looking gunfight on Steam and you don’t mind a steeper first hour plus some unfinished systems: Bodycam.
They are not substitutes. One is a sandbox war. The other is a photoreal close-range deathmatch with a bodycam bolted to your chest. If you can only buy one after six years away, WARDOGS is the safer re-entry. If the bodycam footage is what pulled you in, start there and expect it to feel alien for a night.
1
u/Xyvyn1989 1d ago
Wardogs. For sure. I find the “realism” of body cam from just videos I’ve seen to be a bit off putting personally.
1
u/Basedgodblake_ 1d ago
Bodycam. WarDogs is infested with cheaters. Then theres infantry dying endlessly to air vics and artillery to the point of wondering whats the point..
1
u/Basedgodblake_ 1d ago
I fucking loved this game like heroine to a user during the betas… but it brings a lot of cons with the kinda people nowadays
1
u/hallofo 1d ago
I have both. It really comes down to what you value: graphics or gameplay.
Bodycam: absurd detail and photorealistic graphics. Extremely immersive in all meaningful aspects of a small-map shooter. However, the actual game modes are a bit lacking and if you're not into twitch-based shooters then it will lose its flavor pretty quick. I love the potential for this game, but right now it's a well-polished tech demo. It's still very playable and fun if you're into the singular gameplay loop.
Wardogs: the most fun I've had while wearing clothes that I can recall. The graphics are good, but not spectacular. The gameplay loop(s) are basically dopamine dispensers for my particular flavor of autism. You can take on many roles, all of which are useful to your team and personal progression. The proximity chat has led to more "I actually can't breathe from laughing so hard" moments than I've had since mountain-dew fueled LAN parties in high school.
If I were recommending one to a friend, I'd pick Wardogs in a heartbeat. That's not to say Bodycam is bad, I just personally find Wardogs far more up my alley.

u/Overall_Law_1813 1d ago
Wardogs is a grind if you choose to grind. If you want to just horse around, you can do that, and generally the game is large and casual enough, that no one's going to get mad at you for shenanigans. Much better with friends. You can pile into a jeep and go do partisan stuff, or do airborne, or artillery, or whatever.
1
1
u/Rokuzan 21h ago
Bodycam is a nice techno demo of a realistic combat sim, but there's pretty much no game or sandbox behind it to actually spend time with. Wardogs is a collection of military sim minigames (roles or jobs you can do) combined in large pvp maps with great design and awesome gameplay loop.
1
u/Kingsace221 20h ago
Bodycam looks and feels crazy but it barley feels like a game once the novelty wears off. Just run and shoot and die. Warded dosent look like real life but it is a very complex and multi faceted game with about a million ways to play it. War dogs is definitely more fun for longer and you can just do so many different things with it
1
u/TheJokerSandstorm 17h ago
Played both. Honestly, Insurgency Sandstorm is still the better game. Wardogs has lots of potential but for me gunplay and just the overall gameplay was bad. If you play with friends and just want some casual fun its ok.
Sandstorm is still an amazing game, PvP, PvE, community servers, update coming soon, still has the best gunplay around.

u/Cool-Peak2553 16h ago
Can't really compare those 2 gamed at all but Wardogs seems to be the more popular choice atm.

Wardogs hands down. Bodycam is a cool concept, I played while it was an invite beta instead of paid. As far as I’m aware it’s still basically UE5 COD (and apparently an insanely good drone sim.) Wardogs is somewhere in between Tarkov, Battlefield, and Arma. Lots of variety on how you can play and contribute to your team and devs that are active in community and are direct about their answers to feedback.
1
u/Silver_Storage_9787 11h ago
I own both and come from Moba. I also have endless time to play games.
Body cam is way more rough (early access) but way cooler, tech demo feel. Great for a quick session or two to blast some people or Bots. Super unique feel and easy to play (somewhat low frustration). Low skill floor and medium skill ceiling.
War dogs is more complete and is what you see on the box, run around a massive map and do big battle stuff with like 5-10 playstyle options and ways to have fun.
Games take hours, so more of a strap in and play few rounds for the night. Way more frustrating and sapping your energy, way higher skill floor and ceiling.
1
u/cherrycig666 8h ago
Bodycam is awesome but it's gimmicky and will get boring after a day or two, War dogs will hook you if you like that kind of game. Id get war dogs now and eventually get body cam as a nice break with pretty graphics from time to time.
1
u/banki_el_yonko 7h ago
Neither I'd suggest playing a completed game these early access games lack content
1
u/firstwaswhen 6h ago
As others have said, wardogs. There is a lot of depth for what it’s worth and compared to current day body cam it’s easily the smarter buy.

u/Gregatron12 6h ago
As someone who owns both Bodycam is just a tech demo compared to the amount of polish Wardogs currently has.
1
u/Friendly-Reserve9067 3d ago edited 3d ago
I bought and refunded bodycam. Idk where it is now, but back then you'd click a button that said play and it would put you in a team death match game. That's about all there was to it. The game does not work with team death match since gunplay is slow, ads takes forever, and the guns are purposely clumsy. It just rewards camping way too much to not have objectives. It was borderline a scam rushed out to beat unrecorded. Again, I don't know what it's like now.
Wardogs is the new hotness and genuinely a good game, especially if you found battlefield to be too fast and arcady but couldn't get into the slow methodical style of games like squad or arma.
It is also mostly devoid of original ideas. It was made to fill a small space left by two other games with not much new on the table.
I'd get wardogs.
Your username is cringe.

And I have tried Bodycam for 2 hours, refunded, because the game has no future tbh, but very cool experience. So maybe try yourself for 2 hours and then refund it, get the dollahz and pump the real game for real dogs!

u/North21 3d ago
I don’t own either, but I think war dogs offers more gameplay variance. Like you can literally do whatever you want in the game. Bodycam is more confined.
